Model Trains at the Deschutes Public Library (Bend, Oregon)
(Originally recorded on December 23, 2023)
This event ran from December 16-23, 2023 and I went on the very last day also unfortunately Michael Lavrich was not there the day that I went!
The Train Man is back just in time for the holiday break.
After a three-year pause for the pandemic Michael Lavrich is reviving the beloved train display at the Downtown Bend Library with the help of his son Kieran and long-time helpers Parker Gerard and Grace Lickwar. This marks Lavrich's twentieth year displaying his trains at the library, meaning children who first watched the trains run years ago may now have children of their own with whom they share this family tradition. Lavrich began collecting trains more than 20 years ago.

In 2021, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers determined that this dam was at risk of failing in a large earthquake in the Cascadia subduction zone, which would result in a "potentially catastrophic flood", which could potentially affect Oregon's state capital, Salem, located downstream. For this reason, the level of the reservoir was lowered by five feet, to reduce the stress on the concrete structure. So right off the bat we have a woke tour guide! He tells her ladies first and she goes out of her way to correct him! Smdh! What this guy did is a good video but the wokeness is pathetic! I went aboard the USS Drum and Alabama years ago and the Drum is much smaller on the inside than the more modern diesel electric subs! Man the Drum is so small kinda like the inside of the U Boats I don't know how those guys put up with being in that small of a space for so long. The crazy thing about the U boats were that the diesel smell is not only throughout the ship but sailors claimed that the food tasted like diesel! I never heard reports about the American subs having the same problem with their food but only God knows how German Sailors were able to tolerate it!

History and Naming The origin of the name of the creek is unknown. Watson Mountain in the Glide area was named for a James Watson, who settled on the banks of Fall Creek near Glide in 1854. The name may have been carried over for the same individual. Watson Falls was likely named for the creek. Location & Directions Watson Falls can be found along Fish Creek Road #37, just over 2 miles east of Toketee Falls and Lake, itself about 43 miles east of Glide or 16 miles west of Diamond Lake. The parking area is about 500 feet south of Highway 138 on the right side. The trail crosses Road 37 and climbs easily but steadily up to the base of the falls in about 1/3 mile.
