Incantations Artist Talk at Zygote Press
Artist-curator Jen P. Harris in conversation with R Kauff, Leeza Meksin, and Ajdin Kulić at Zygote Press on Friday, August 9, 2024
Continuing Zygote's commitment to showcasing art by queer artists every summer, Incantations centers seven artists whose work questions ideas of ritual, spell-casting and magic through a queer lens.
Conceived by Cleveland-based artist Jen P. Harris, the exhibition includes drawings and collage-based paintings by Harris alongside paintings, textiles, prints, and sculptures by Ajdin Kulić (Cleveland), E.E. Ikeler (New York), Fidencio Fifield-Perez (Minneapolis), Leeza Meksin (New York), Sarana Mehra (Los Angeles), and R Kauff (Cleveland).

    Re Thea Proctor's use of mauve/purple in her costumes: see Regina Blaszczyk, The Color Revolution, which has an entire chapter on the Victorian use of the color mauve. Queen Victoria's wedding gown was mauve, which caused a fashion fad throughout the English-speaking world for mauve. NOT anything to do with being queer!

    Nice video! I ran offset presses for 40 years. The ink company should be able to supply you with round sheets to cover the ink after you skin it. It’s the only way to go. Saves time and product. Or you can always put the can on a sheet of paper and trace a circle and cut it out to place over the fresh ink.

    Hi and thank you for a great presentation! I live on Cape Cod and go to PTown regularly to admire the art. When I moved here I started to learn about the history of the artists and the colonies here and of course eventually I came across the white line printmaking movement. I am learning printmaking myself via the Japanese tradition. but the white line really has me intrigued. This was a very informative presentation please tell the Brittany presenter thanks!

  • @jamestanner9198
    @jamestanner9198 ปีที่แล้ว

    That is a old pms book. You did not show how to put the Packing on correctly using the gauge ? Underlay needs to be done so the proper make ready , cut out the high spots so the image does not punch the paper. The correct pressure is just kiss the surface of the stock. Make ready done under the oiled manilla top sheet.

    • @jasonstahl1327
      @jasonstahl1327 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Makeready is very important, but to say there is only one correct pressure is not valid in this day and age. When letterpress did everything from newspapers to books to business forms, you did not want to see the impression on the back distorting that sides text. But letterpress is now a niche market and deep impression is an artistic choice (depending on how much wear you are willing to accept on your type). It’s just as valid as kiss impression.
