The Call - Tore The Old Place Down
"We did Reconciled in the summer of 85. The band hadn't had the luxury of playing very much together prior to making that album. We had gone through two years of not having a recording contract. We fell into a business hell and the band became lawyers over legal bickering with our former record label and management company. We didn't have anything definite other than the band itself. Then we got the Elektra deal and we started rehearsing, and things started clicking and feeling wonderful again. We believed in the band, and I think that all the adversity that we went through strengthened us".....Michael Been

Live At The Ritz, May 29th, 1986. Though none of the singles from The Call's Reconciled made a dent on the pop charts, the anthemic march "I Still Believe" and the galloping "Everywhere I Go" (with backup vocals by Jim Kerr and Peter Gabriel) both received significant AOR and college radio airplay. It significantly raised the profile of the quartet and their earnest, U2-like brand of rock.

1983. Modern Romans, was notable for its political content. Michael Been stated, "There was a great deal happening politically - Grenada, Lebanon, or the government saying the Russians are evil and the Russian government probably saying the same about us. That kind of thinking inspired me to write the last lines of 'Walls Came Down'. A link to a website dedicated to The Call. the-call-band.com/...

National TV 1989/90. "Let The Day Begin" The Call's 1989 release became the band's biggest crossover hit. With its insistent bassline and driving guitars, "Let the Day Begin" was a rousing track that was a memorable introduction to the band's fifth album. The album consists of some of The Call 's strongest material and the undercurrent of optimism and big arena rock hooks results in it being th...

Greg Freeman had to Give Robert Levon Been, Bass Lessons, When he was a kid.💯
Been’s bass playing is as much melodic as rhythm. Love these guys.
Makes me really sad that Michael Been was gone so early--his music and message lives on forever! Never despair, Jesus wins!
Fucking great bsss part!! And the drummer doing what he's supposed to do - not fucking up the tune l.
I only just realized Michael is playing a different guitar at the end of the video.
Saw them twice in the day. Great show both times
"I don't think there are any Russians..... just corporate criminals..." 2:22
I was here, I had just gotten out of the Navy and was a college student. Was fortunate enough to see them twice
I thought this was a contemporary band of jerry seinfeld look alikes 🤷♂️
Not enough - yes still happening
I literally remember the first time I heard this song. I was in Champaign Illinois on my way to pick up a friend to drive to Chicago to see the Cubs.
An 80s classic that I had completely forgotten about!
Am I the only one who thinks he sounds like David Byrne from the Talking Heads ?
You got to luv it....
Michael was a beautiful person. I got to know him during the 2000's while touring with his son. He was absolutely a kind, intelligent and special man. My husband and I miss seeing and spending time with him. RIP
I met him while he was touring and to this day it's one of the highlights of my life.
❤❤..
Wow
I play music for 30 years, I listen to almost every kind of music and this song is one of the most powerful one ever written. The chorus is absolutely musically genius, pure genius the way it’s mixing major and minor in the same riff is Beethoven and wagner levels, it’s a pop song just a few minutes linking classical masterpiece and all the pop music since the 50s. How the hell did he came with that riff, it’s the perfect perfection of the best mixed feelings giving an almost impossible brand new most powerful one… I still believe, but i can’t believe this is so underrated for such a real masterpiece.
I'm so proud of what my generation accomplished, the last great generation before the enslavement of technology.
One more thing I have to say about Michael Been. Before he left this earth, one of his charitable works was to end world child slavery. Let's continue Michael's legacy and work or donate to organizations that want to end world slavery.
My desert island band.
Awesome
There ain't no Russians and there ain't no Yanks. Just corporate criminals playing with tanks. That's a great line. RIP Michael Been. You brought your soul to your music and I hope you meet St. Peter in Heaven.
"There ain't no Russians and there ain't no Yanks ...just cooperate criminals playing with tanks" This guy was ON it and it's still playing out today
The Call sound just as good if not better live as they do in the studio. its a rare feat and shows real talent. RIP Michael
The Call holds a special place in my heart. Their lyrics speak what I feel, whether or not they intended them too. My favorite band.
ME too, for me, the right band at the right time.
Still Grateful - I play in the Unknown Skies with Chilimeat.
Still love The Call

I always thought this was a Talking Heads song. Anyone else?
Saw them in the late 80's. Man what a great concert!!
Same!! ❤
They're so incredible live. Pure talent, no fluff.
2024 🎉
Michael Bean gone to soon .
Sad he passed away. Beautiful voice!
From soundtrack of the Val Kilmer movie Real Genius (1985).
Waiting for a job interview and this song was playing over the PA. I was singing along. The manager came out, looked at me and asked "Do you believe what he says about corporate criminals?" I answered "Yes, I do". She hired me on the spot.
2024 and still a banger.❤
I had buddies back in school who would scream “Silent Assassins” just at the right time just to watch me laugh over and over again. Great band for us; the last of the Cold War Kids
