Very nice!! Is Kiersten teaching or learning from you? LOL
Does anyone have the deck log of this ship?
My father was Russell Clell Warren Boatswain mate 2nd class on this ship! He passed away 6-July-1993. I tried to go to that Denver dot org, but the domain is for sale. Too bad someone couldn't have kept it up. Maybe the original owner passed.
My dad was also on this ship. As I mentioned on Part 1 of this video that we are trying to find out exactly what ship that he was wounded on when a bomb exploded close to him. My father was a gunner 1st class and his final rank was a boatswain mate 2nd class (Petty officer 2nd class) when he was discharged. He was a gunner using the 40mm anti-aircraft guns.
My father was aboard this ship during WWII
My uncle Benjamin Chupp served and was wounded in action on the Denver
What an amazing video! I think my Dad (Barry) served on this ship in WWII, God rest his soul. I wonder if anyone has a photo of him? Thank you all for your service, what a war that was.
My wife's grandfather was on this boat. He was 100 years old. He passed on Tuesday August 7th, 2018. Marine! Walter Kuhlmey
My Dad is Pictured....William J.D. Hubble....JD
He Passed 11/11/07
Cool. That's my paternal grandfather in the foreground at 6:15. Even though he died when I was a baby I can recognize him due to the strong resemblance my father had with him (and my brother and I also share).
What a cool little goalie our Pelle was " A true Flyer through and through" - The Spectrum The Flyers and our great loyal fans will never forget The Cat Like Quickness In Net NUMBER 31 And Number 1 In Our Philly Hearts Forever.
My grandfather served on this ship. Steve "Pete" Zsiga. Thanks for this video
Anyone who disliked this video is a fucking scumbag.
Had he not died Edmonton would have a few less Stanley Cups. With him in goal that team was the perfect counter to the Oilers the rivalry would have been legend.
How can I send you an additional photo of group photo fire control division 1944 USS Denver? I may have other photos.
My uncle, Clifford Eugene (Gene) Herd served on this ship as a Radarman. I don't know details about when he served and he didn't talk about it much at all. He passed away in 1998 and I wish I had known more about his service.
My Uncle, Clifford Eugene (Gene) Herd served aboard the USS Denver as a Radarman during WWII at Leyte Gulf and several other battles.
This is excellent. Thank you.
Pelle had the talent to be the best goalie not only in his generation (which included Roy) but of all time! You are a legend & forever a Flyer! To think how great he was at his age and how many cups & vezina's he was going to win makes it all more sad! Rest in peace Pelle!#31
what are the songs that are used
Never been a fan of sport clips with music. This one makes sense however. I admire your effort. Thanks!
Damn he looked like Bernie Parent. He copied Parent's style perfectly.
Wow. Great video, great musical choices. Unfortunately Pelles career was too short for retirement jerseys and H. O. F. A spectacular goalie however. Thanks.
best tribute out.. finally a good my mask goes off to you. I met Pelle a few times he was my idiol
He was simply an amazing goaltender ! special. I'm an isles and I can really appiacite his talent. Rip
Thank you for making this video/pictorial. My father, Harold Alonzo Bryant served on the USS Denver during WW II.
Jim, was your father in Fire Control? One of my father's (Leonard Kimsey) best friends was "Trigger" Bryant on the Denver). I have a group photo with both of them in it. I also knew a his friend Baca. Larry Kimsey larrykimsey@yahoo.com Best wishes.
Your welcome glad you enjoyed it
@@larrykimsey8013 this is a reply to an old comment but my dad was in the aft fire room.
" I SEEN MY DADDY CARRING THE LOOKS LIKE A BOMB MY DADDY REST IN PEACE " RALPH RAMBOW
Thanks for your comment. Let me know the time the photo appears and a description along with your Dad's name and I may be able to add it in to any future versions of this film.
RIP
i will never forget his walk...you could tell was on ship...lol
my dad served on the denver, when it was struck by torpedo,i believe he said it was the compartment next to him,and i think it was 13,k.i.a ? i have the ship blue book,he wanted me to have when he passed away,in 1992,of lung cancer.he was a great father and provider,a brick layer after the war......there was only one picture of him i ever saw in uniform(black uniform),with mother...way before i was born...lol.
rick zimmer jr I had an uncle, Benjamin Chupp who served and was injured on the Denver, he was in Traverse City and was involved in the VFW there
My father had a bomb blow up next to him, but we are not sure it was this ship. He served on 3 other ships. I use to ask my dad questions about is injuries and I don't remember what ship it was that he said this happen. Wish I could remember. I am in the process of getting his STR records. I wish I had the deck log of the Denver.
@@markwarren7116 here is a link to the deck logs for the Denver. They stop in January 1945 as the man that was transcribing them on line passed away. www.hazegray.org/navhist/denver/
My dad Herb Selub served on the Denver CL-58 as a Hospital Apprentice First Class (HA1) at the end of WWII . Perhaps a coincidence, our family moved to Denver, CO in the early 1970s where my dad lived for 40+ years until his death at 88 in 2015. He was proud of his Navy service and a folded flag was placed on his coffin to honor this in a civilian ceremony. He is greatly missed. Thanks for the videos.
This is beautiful!!! ❤️
We watched this in class today
Chris Perales we watched it on Friday for Veterans Day since I was 7 I have wanted to be in the army and boys think I can't do it but this is very motivational and also I great song
MY dad served on the Denver J.D Hubble..funny seeing John Bloomer..I met many of the ship mates at the reunion in Grand Rapids,Mi My Dad passed 11/11/2007
My Dad served on the Denver William J.D.Hubble(J Buck) He was on the bow 20mm......8/17/1926-11/11/2007
My friend and neighbor Emile Dupont served on the USS Denver as the photographer and I am wondering if that is him sitting on the desk in the darkroom photo. It is hard to tell but it certainly could be since he told me he eventually moved into the darkroom. I am sure he took many of these photos Thanks great work setting this up.
My dad Roy was on the Denver CL58. He is now 88 years old and remembers the Philippines very well as he looked out over Corrigedor when the Marines landed. First time I saw a tear in his eye was when my wife and I told him that we had visited Corrigidor.
+Mike H If you like to share a picture of your Dad I would be happy to include in any future Denver videos.
My Grandfather Thomas C. Haynes Sr. from Atlanta, GA. served on the Denver during WWII. He worked in the engine room. I remember the book shown in this video, it is still in our family. He was very proud of his ship and his service, as we all were. He passed away in 1986, but inspired his Grandson, and Great Grandson to carry on the Navy tradition. Thank you for this video.
+Gene Gibbs If you like to share a picture of your Dad I would be happy to include in any future Denver videos.
Happy Birthday Pelle Lindbergh. After 30 years I believe it's time we see your number in the rafters in honor of you and the memories you left us with. You are not forgotten. #31
So I showed this video to my dad and he was able to pick out my grandfather at 5:45. He's the guy with the pirate skull on his chest. Also, he might be the guy with the mustache on the far right at 2:43. His name was James Curtis Mack, Chief Bosun's Mate.
Wow, this video is truly incredible. Thank you for posting it. My grandfather served on the Denver during nearly the entirety of the War. He was a Chief Bosun's Mate, or so my dad tells me. His name was James Mack.
+SilentKnight284 Thankyou for your comment and sorry it took so long to respond. If you'd like you can scan and email me a copy of your dad's photo and I'd be happy to include in any future revisions. Thanks Jim
Great video. A lot of care in the preparation was obvious. Beautiful words to capture such a tragic time, photos and videos timed to match the lyrics just at the right time. And such sobering pictures and videos of those who made the ultimate sacrifice. As a boomer, it drives home what my parents and their generation experienced. Friend of your sister from work days in Downingtown, PA (BB)
Pelle was the last of the stand up goaltending which is so beautiful to watch as opposed to flopping to your knees every shot and leaving the upper net unguarded. Unfortunately Patrick Roys style has become the mainstay and a tried tested and true method has become a lost art. Pelle was Bernie Parents prodigy and pride. You were at the doors of greatness that tragicly became lost in legend. You are my favorite goalie of all time and I know what kind of magick you would have provided the Flyers as your playing was stellar and inspirational. You'll always be missed 31, and the grace your goaltending prowess would have led to being possibly the greatest. Thanks Pelle... GO FLYERS!!!
My Brother was a child of seven years when he so this movie in a home for lost childeren...he telling me episodes of this movie,I know my brother always was looking to find back this movie without to know the name of this movie. The movie was verry emotional for my brother to remeber that time during his life in that home without to see(4 years) enybody of famely...GREAT MOVIE.(sorry for my bad writing)
Visited your grave today, 29 yrs ago today. Saknar dig grabben! Vi syns sen.
Vackert skrivet. Älskar Pelle.
Thank you very much for this, I wish I had a chance to show it to my grandfather Jim Kunkle, before he recently passed. I created a google plus group and sent some invites. It would be great to hear some stories from people. If anyone is on the east coast, my family is trying to put together a kind of reunion/story telling dinner this October probably in Scranton. Thanks again for the great documentary.
+James Stapleford If you like to share a picture of your Grand father I would be happy to include in any future Denver videos.
Hi, Just curious, but do you have any Lindbergh photos for the 82 season prior to the 12/9/82 game against the Nordiques? I'm trying to find a photo of him in the first set of jerseys that year that have the black piping attaching to the neck in the back rather than straight across. I know they were still wearing those at least through the Calgary game on 11/18/82. Thank you.
+Paul Banks These are all the photos that I have
+TheHistoryteller1 Thanks.
Another big thank you for this video from the son Charles (Chuck), daughters CMDR Marilyn (Mimi) Pollow and Debbie, son in law, and grand kids of Commander Charles H. Pollow former radio officer on the Denver pictured at 18:07.
when I was a kid he was my favourite goalie, he still is, he would have played another 10 years easily, he won the vezina and was in his prime when he died, I cant believe BRIAN PROPP who is the #1 all time highest scoring left winger in playoff history and scored a 1000 pts in 1000 games, 5 time all star, a Plus +310, AND SCORED 64 goals, 84 assists, 148 playoff points did not get into the hockey HALL OF FAME again, WAKE UP HOF, he has better numbers than over 150 players in the H.O,F.
Happy Birthday Pelle Lindbergh. 29 years have gone by since you passed away. You are still my favorite goalie and forever will be.
