"Elmer Gantry" is a wonderful film. Shirley Jones was great and Jean Simmons should have been nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role, but Burt Lancaster truly stole the show. When I heard that he beat Spencer Tracy in "Inherit the Wind" (another excellent performance in another wonderful film about Christianity that's set in the 1920s) for Best Actor in a Leading Role for this movie, I was incredulous to say the least. But when I saw this movie I was so moved by his performance that I thought "maybe he deserved it". Also, just as a fact check: Burt Lancaster did not win an Oscar for "From Here to Eternity". He and Montgomery Clift were both nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role for the film, but they both lost to William Holden in "Stalag 17". Burt was also nominated for the films "Birdman of Alcatraz" (1962) and "Atlantic City" (1980, but competed in the 1981 Academy Awards), both of which he lost (in 1962 he lost to Gregory Peck in "To Kill a Mockingbird", in 1981 he lost to Henry Fonda in "On Golden Pond"). Anyways, great video.

I loved Jerry in Coach. I watched Andy Griffith show and still do. I remember when this movie came out on the big screen. I was almost 5. We went to Oklahoma City and saw it in an outdoor theatre. My little brother, my mom and dad and they took my grandma along. Loved this movie even then.

Jay Robinson was only 21 when he played the brutal Caligula the youngest actor in Hollywood to ascend to such a major role that truly was played to perfection
Actually he was 23 and yes it was a perfect role for him. Sorry to see him fall prey to the lure of the Hollywood high life and (by his own admission) his own ego. By the time he was 27 he was a full blown drug addict and had a reputation for being difficult to work with. After he served a year in jail he wouldn’t work in Hollywood again for almost 10 years. Cautionary tale of receiving so much fame and fortune at a young age.
