According to legend, Śrī Madhvācārya would perform his daily worship in private, asking his disciples to wait outside until he had completed his rituals. One day, Śrī Trivikrama Paṇḍitācārya, a former follower of Śaṅkara, became so curious that he secretly made a small hole in the temple wall to observe. What he witnessed inside left him speechless with awe: Śrī Madhvācārya was performing worship in three distinct forms simultaneously! As Śrī Hanumān, he served Śrī Rāmacandra; as Śrī Bhīmasena, he served Śrī Vāsudeva Kṛṣṇa; and as Śrī Madhvā, he worshipped Śrī Vyāsadeva. Overwhelmed with wonder, Trivikrama Paṇḍitācārya began composing the forty-one verses of his renowned Vāyu-stutī on the spot. In response, the omniscient Śrī Madhvācārya blessed his devoted disciple with two verses in praise of Śrī Narasiṁha-deva’s nails, instructing him to recite them at the beginning and end of his Vāyu-stutī.
