This is the culmination of many disappointing days with flipping, power cuts, and other setbacks but finally got her running well. This front wing or canard really helps keep the front down. This is the 2nd video from today and will post the longer more detailed vid shortly. 87mph, let’s go!!! Fastest known bj24 as of today! #Blackjack 24 #Mph Speed Run

Going for some speed runs with the BJ24 and SW48. I know this doesn’t qualify for boost challenge as motor is changed
You so right about finding the right boat for the available ponds. Lately here in Lake Macquarie in New South Wales Australia I’m getting about 1 run a week for my riggers that go over 100 mph a week ago I got 121.3 out of my 36” rigger 108 out of my 30” rigger and have added logging to see the amp load but I am waiting waiting waiting on some flat water. So I’m building ironclad Rc’s micro clad so I can run a boat more often. It will work on a big puddle.
One remote is a gm changer. I have a Rugged for sale if you’re interested. Also, I have a channel sporting a highly modded UL.
What an awesome spot, is that a slalom course?
I think they use those bouys for rc sailboat races. Haven’t seen them but what I heard. Fun for running laps but kind of annoying when doing straight line speed runs lol
I'm from Iowa and I have the new black jack 24 v2 and it runs great on the stock system but I bonded it to my new dx6 rugged and I changed out the steering servo I think I'm getting about 70 miles a hour out of it on spectrum 2s lipos
Nice! 70 is dang quick for the stock system! Blackjack 24 is one awesome boat.
Keep the BJ24 videos coming! Don't stop! I can speak for many... We want to see 90mph! Keep it up Vette!
Haha appreciate it, I think everyone will have to turn down the volume if we ever hit 90 lol. So many hours and trips to the lake. I’m trying to slow mo that crash at the end, thing was just flying straight for like 60 feet, almost like an airplane, one of the cooler crashes it’s had lol
Not sure why this didn’t upload in 4k. Hopefully it fully processes soon to see the crash better
Lol good fun run! That UL-19 is a treasure for sure.. I hope they do a V2 or something soon
Yea for sure! Proboat actually made a post a few months ago asking what people wanted to see come out next and the majority of comments were “a bigger UL19”. Such a great boat, little lacking in the stock electronics but once you swap them out, it’s a blast.
@VetteWay2Fast ooh, that sounds exciting! Looking forward to seeing your Popeye run soon 👍
Nice video👌👍
Thanks man!
Check out one of my new shorts to see what happened to one of my favorite props! It was a clean break!!
Cool I’ll check them out!
Bro that happened to me yesterday! The collet just unscrewed itself idk how bc it was tight when I checked it!
Yea it happens, spun a few over the years. Stinks cause it usually polishes the cable in that area and almost ruins the cable. I think the esc got to hot in this one and was in thermal mode when I tried to bring it back and all the sudden returned to normal and it took off lol
Good stuff 👍 Interesting results with the dual wing & your findings with the ESC. Sounds like she took a pretty gnarly hit to bend the prop like that. What ESC would you say is the 'one and done' for speed runs? Thanks
Yea these wings certainly didn’t seem to work as well as the canard. In terms of esc’s, the castle hydra’s can handle the most amps so would probably be the best if price isn’t a factor but for the money, the ose 150 raider is a pretty solid esc for only 60 bucks.
@@VetteWay2Fast Right on.. OSE Raider sounds like the ticket
I'm trying the flaps to see if that can solve the problems from 130kmh , +80mph 👌👍
The canard (front wing between the sponsons) seems to work much better. These wings made it pretty unstable and was shaking violently at speed. I show the canard in more detail in one of the previous vids. Yea once this boat gets to the low to mid 80’s, it’s tough to keep it on the water without something to aid in keeping the front down and cg really far forward
Damn I had high hopes for thst blackjack! Glad you like the boat! Appreciate your support!
Yea gotta go back to the canard. Guessing the twin wings were not exactly aligned or the bj24 didn’t like something on top of the hull. Tough to tell from vid but it was shuttering violently at speed. Kuddos on the hydro man, thing is a blast! Really stable for its size and has a ton of potential for higher speeds. Any prop recommendation for the stock setup?
Congrats on your new boat!! Coby is an awesome person!! He and I have become friends! He is the type you want in your corner!!
Yea def a good dude. Appreciate it, fun little boat. Will be a blast when we throw in a little more powerful system and prop.
Nice video! Helluva crash and still going.
Thx, yep not to be today. Looking at the vid, I am hitting my drop in wake so will try to let the water calm a bit before the passes from now on. Still at the 88 but hopefully can get a little more in the future!
Action packed! Love the fails! Part of the procces! Great video! "vette out" 👌👌😉
Haha yea, don’t usually post the fails but figured what the heck. One of the worst crashes in terms of damage, gonna have some bench time to get her back up and running!
Looks like your canard helped a ton before it broke off
Yea it definitely helped, was at a wall around 85 before I installed it and surprised how much it did after breaking off. Looking at the vid, I think I’m also hitting my initial wake from when I dropped in the water too. Gonna try letting the water calm a bit before the passes from now on.
Yeah not everytime out is great but it beats a good day at work everytime. Peace from the muddy shores of lake erie.
Definitely true, always nice just to be out running! Big ole lakes over there, always wanted to see the Great Lakes!
Bro I have gotten my best PB's with the Flycolor 150A!! Congrats my friend!! See I knew it could be done!! Even though my 88.6 mph had a flip it still goes to show you the possibilities of this boat!!
Wish I hit it but unfortunately not to be today. Some bad crashes and damage to prop, canard and servo. Good in the esc seems to handle the amps but have to order a new prop. Still at the 88mph from the last vid. Gonna be some work on the canard, prop and servo to get her back running.
@@VetteWay2Fast I did see it to the end! lol Dam bud sounds like a bad run!! Lots of damage! Well now you have an excuse to make it better!
Yea this hull has taken a beating lol. The prop bending on the tips surprised me, haven’t had that happen before. Guessing it happened on the first blow over and caused the second at a slower speed
@VetteWay2Fast that sounds rational to me for an explanation for the prop! I have beaten my 24 v1 up! She keeps going! She is the least of my problems with my boats! I have flung a blade off a prop when it was at full trigger and when it popped up and came down the blade hit the water and broke off lol! That surprised me!!
Man that’s crazy, must have been turning some rpm’s for that to happen!
You need a longer pond
Yep prob wouldn’t hurt
Wow that speedboat goes very fast and sorry for my profile picture
Nice boats and good runs, man.. liked and subbed
Thx! Def some fun boats, just checked out your channel and subbed! See u got a bj24, you’re gonna love it. Doesn’t turn as well as the v1 imo, but much more stable in straight line runs.
@@VetteWay2Fast yup, the mono's with fins are for turning.. this girl is all straight line speed. I just learned what 'blueprinting' a hull is.. and wow. Lots of work, but it may be worth it! Boat gang for life! 🚤💨🫡
Yep she’s definitely a straight line ripper! Yea blue printing can be tedious if you decide to go all in with epoxy and stuff but most of the time, can just get away with a little light sanding to roughen up the surface a bit.
@@VetteWay2Fast Yeah, I was thinking light sanding and maybe a thin layer of graphite epoxy to bring up the low spots, then sand it evenly
Good run’s smooth.😊
Thx!
Hey, what kind of prop are you running on the hydro? I like 3 bladed props for an all-around great prop! Check it out and see if you like it!
It’s a 3 blade abc I think. Can’t remember the size but it’s pretty small since I can’t run too big with the rudder being right next to it. (fairly poor design on tfl to make the rear part of rudder at the same length from as prop, needs more offset on rudder bracket) Also limited to non high rakes until I get a single piece shaft and make it longer
That was awesome to see!! I am waiting for the weather to have less wind so I can try for 90!! Great job!!
Can’t wait to see, I’m sure those tabs you installed will help a good bit! Bummed it flipped, that pass was looking promising lol
@VetteWay2Fast trust me I know! I have had this boat since I started in the hobby this past June! I love how fast these can get! Gets the heart pumping
That it does!
Daaaaamn I didn't think she would blow over when she did (the BJ24) she came up super fast.. But is looking great! She's got 90mph for sure Start with sharpening the Rudder.. And if that doesn't work.. Reduce the length a tiny bit at a time. Also push cg forward 1/4-1/2 inch My impulse is my least favorite boat to run. But it's my favorite looking boat. I'm gonna send you a surprise gift with your package next week to help at your impulse. Compared to my other hulls.. She's just a bit heavy! But she's hottttttt! I freaking looooove that Popeye! 💪💪💪💪 Running hydros with no turn fin IS FUN! Favors the right because motor torque pulls right... And the Rudder Niiiiiiice video!
Haha yea that pass was shaping up so good too, must have hit a ripple or something. Can’t wait on the hydro, will definitely get some vids up with it! Eh a little heavier and stronger sounds good to me! Hadn’t run the impulse in months so figured I’d take her out. Such a sleek looking boat! Yea the Popeye is a blast, almost feels like a drag boat as when it catches from the initial cavitation, really takes off and tracks straight. Gonna bring out the ul19 with it soon for a comparison vid
Ahh def makes sense on the better right turn with the torque roll, didn’t think about that!
Actually have the cg as far forward as I can get. Cut the lipo trays to allow more forward and took out some foam. Will try taking out a bit more foam though and see if we can’t get the lipos up a half inch or so
@@VetteWay2Fast can't wait to see your UL. Keep up the videos! Your pond looks so clean and nice btw! Not like my sewer water 👌
Haha yea it’s not a bad spot. My other lake is bigger but have to walk like 200 yards to the dock. This one is much more convenient being able to park right next to the drop in spot. The ul is a blast and used to speed run it, got into the mid 80’s but since it’s discontinued, don’t want to run it as much since a replacement hull would be tougher to get. I’ve always wanted the og miss Budweiser from back in the day. It was actually my first boat and really regret selling it. They look so cool with the rear wing and design
Tfl has the yacht though fiberglass and goings like 40 - 50 mph. Use to be like 500$ but price double thanks to Harris /Bidden
Haha I agree. Yea the tfl princess is nice but too expensive for a boat I’ll only run a few times. Have a ton of systems laying around so may just throw a brushless in this one
@@VetteWay2Fast totally agree with upgrading that yacht.
Yea actually added some scale people to it and looks pretty cool now. Could def use a little more speed though. Btw just got back from the lake with a new pb on the bj24, vid coming in a bit!
It is supposed to go slowly. They look weird going fast They also don't handle the right way if they are not going the correct scale speed. You are just a bit fast, it should be slower. you can put twin motors and scale it up and load it up with lights and scale people and use is as a tug boat. great for a girl that wants to DOLL HOUSE THE thing and come out with dad to run boats. Slower on a bigger prop means more heat for the slower tuning motor. Bigger does not mean faster. It means more power losses, heat, and sometimes damage. Faster can happen with smaller props and more pitch! try it! There is an amazing world of crazy prop science out there.
Yep prop choice is definitely huge in boats. For speed running, trial and error for the biggest you can get away with and avoiding high temps and power cuts. For the yacht, probably going to leave it as is for the time being unless I get bored and decide to drop a brushless system in it
Why are your batts so far back?
On the blackjack? They are as far forward as I can go without modifying the tray and cutting foam.
Nice pass!!! Sounds like it may have a few rpm’s left in her!!
Thx! Yea I think so too, hoping to take here out again in the next few days for another try!
I have the black jack 24 v2 and it's a fun RC boat so if pro boat don't come out with a bigger version of the 24 v2 then I'm going to get the 24 heatwave and turn that in to a speed demand
They had a bj29 but discontinued it for some reason. I really wish they brought it back. The bj42 is a good basher boat but needs to be 6-8 inches longer for its width since it has a pretty severe blow over tendency at speeds
You go nice run...
Thanks!
What did u do to hit 87mph ?
It has a firma 160 esc, leopard 3674 2650kv motor and abc 1916 prop
Hell Yeah !!! She was doing what catamarans are supposed to do ride on a cushion of air under and between the sponsons, I thought about filling in the front area between the tips but maybe just a canard/wing is all that’s needed, nice run spot you have there. 👍
Yea I was stuck at a wall in the low 80’s with constant blow overs so figured I had to try something. Originally tried weights but this seems to work a little better. Wish this spot was a little longer but kinda nice to have a straight path pretty close to shore.
Nice run!
Thanks!
Oh and in your description I saw you don't use #. Use them and say anything that you use like probation and blackjack 24 and your views will get better. Hope this helps
Good to know, appreciate it! I was wondering why the video doesn’t show up when I search blackjack 24 mph. I’ll throw a few hashtags in the description
Hey bud have you tried a 3 blade on her? I have had great luck with a 4016!
Haven’t tried a 3 blade on her yet. Only have a few but will throw one on and see what happens!
Clean clean clean pass!!! Wow! She's 3 more miles per hour that's for sure! Bring it home!! 💪
For sure, heading to the longer lake on the next outing and hoping for the best! Appreciate it!
@@VetteWay2Fast it's there! If the longer lake doesn't do it. Reduce Rudder length a little bit at a time. She's got those 3 miles in her though that's for sure! Man I wanna see that!
Great idea! I didn’t even think about that. I think she’s got a little more in her too if I could get full trigger for a couple seconds longer. This little lake it’s well past me before I’m at full for a second or two.
Wow brother! Really some high numbers 😱 love to see the mod working for you! Congratulations, and Thank you for the Shootout 🙌🏻🌊🚀 BG4L
No prob man and thx! I knew it was a different approach using a wing and actually had a few laughs on the fb post but had to try something as it was near the limit w/o any help to keep it planted. (at least from my runs, others may be able to get similar or faster speeds w/o weight or downforce)
@@VetteWay2Fastwith the way mine is setup for 6S it is pretty heavy, so lets see what can be done for me. I have had a few 80+ blow overs as well, but the hull is holding up like a champ! As an engineer, i’m glad to see people test different approaches. Downforce for sure can be efficient. 💪🏼 They can laugh all they want, we are all here for the fun of it anyways right 🥳 Keep it up
Yea this is pretty heavy as well. Firma 160, 3674 2650kv with twin 3s 6000mah’s. Was stuck at a wall with consistent blow overs around 80-83. I think with tweaking the wing and a larger lake to speed up a little more gradually, hoping for the 90’s
Let's go! Nice job, she's flying! Turning some RPM's!
Thx man! Been a journey that’s for sure. Little more space and we might get into the 90’s lol.
87mph, congratulations! That's crazy fast for a 24" Catamaran!
Thx man! Such a great feeling after so many trips to the lake and coming back with just a bunch of flipping videos lol. Experimenting with a canard between the sponsons and it seems to be working. Looking at the vid is basically just flying with only the prop in the water. More detail in the vid taken right before this that’s uploading now.
If you have larger pond, she will defenetly go faster, maybe 90mph. Congrats
Thx! Yea there’s another bigger lake in the area but a 100 or so yard walk but after seeing that this front wing is doing its job, gonna head out there. The previous vid is uploading now
@gidohc i haven't had good weather in a while it seems and I haven't been able to send my boat and my BJ42 is damaged and being replaced. I know I can get mine into those high numbers. I've proved that it can be done!! #BGFL
Thanks for the shout out bud!! You are the first one to do that for me!!
No prob man! I was so excited lol
@@VetteWay2Fast really i couldn't tell!
Haha
FK YEA!!!!! I'm proud of you and I am very familiar with that feeling!! Its the best!!!
Yea such a great feeling after so many disappointing days driving home. This drive home took forever being impatient and wanting to upload lol. Have the longer previous vid uploading now.
I’m new so this is a big help. Thank you 🙏
But I thought the challenge was with the stock motor and a y esc battery or prop?????? Just Aski g. Still a good video though.
Yes their boost challenge is with the stock motor. I’m just going for the fastest speed I can get with no restrictions.
Man I’ve yet to see a 48 run good. Idk, I’m wondering if the thing needs 12s to hold that front end down and get some real speeds
Yea it would be nice on 12s but not to many 12s esc’s are available. The only one I know of is the seals but they don’t have a bec for some odd reason and have to run a separate battery for receiver and servo. Not ideal
Looking good, something to keep in mind with a hydroplane is that they are designed to do right-hand turns, fastest and hardest right turn possible. SAW, or oval boat, figure eight not so much. Thanks for sharing. Keep up the good work. BG4L
Good to know, didn’t really think about that but would make sense on some sketchy lefts it was doing lol
@@VetteWay2Fastyou could drop the turn fin as much as you can to insure she hooks at wot in a right turn Love the content!
Yea I’ve actually taken off the turn fin for the time being just test how a hydro handles w/o a fin. Surprisingly well, kinda drifts in the turns but still has a surprisingly tight turn radius which I wasn’t expecting. Will get a vid next time I take it out and try some hard rights with the fin back on!
Btw, love that little hydro you’re making! Will def be hitting you up soon
Hey what does expo do? I never really heard a good explanation
I meant dual rate in the vid but dual rate is how far the servo/rudder will travel at full input. At 50% dual rate, the rudder will only travel half the distance of full turn input. In this case, it prevents the rudder from turning to far and hitting the prop. Will have less steering authority though. Expo is “mushing” the sensitivity of the radio inputs. If you think about a linear line where the servo will travel x distance for x input on the radio. Adding expo will make the line curve and will turn the servo less with the same radio input. At full radio input, it will operate all the way but in the low to mid input range, the servo will travel less. Tough to explain but there’s a few videos on it I’m sure. Used to make the model less sensitive to small inputs, mostly used on rc planes and helis.
@VetteWay2Fast wow that was the perfect answer thank you!
No prob man!
There she is!!!
Flying bro! Lets get it! Nice video. 💯💯
Thx man! Your 85 is gonna be tough to beat, even with me cheating with the motor haha
