Edit: So, in this video I wrongly state that you need 2 Steinberg keys and 2 licenses. This is not correct, you actually only need 1 Key and 1 License on the SERVER instance of VEP. I love Cubase but not being able to apply sends to MIDI channels makes this a massive pain in the ass. I’m using a few main reverbs and need a different amount applied to each of my instruments-this means VEPro either only has 1 instrument per group tab or for every MIDI channel I have to create an audio output channel to apply the sends to. Either way it’s cluttered and disorganized.
I see this has been up for awhile now- Hope you're well! Thanks for keeping this little gem up on the TH-cam. It got me most of the way there! Thank you!
Thanks for that video! How do you record processed stems back into cubase?
How to connect two pcs.. About the ip address😊
You need a video explaining how you get the networks to talk to each other first, without setting up static IP's nothing works from what i recall
You had fix all my connection problems with VEP now all working great. Thank you very much.
I thought you could just connect the two machines through the ethernet cable and done. Do actually need an Internet connection or just the router?
Nope! you don't need an internet connection, just a router. :)
@@AtomicAudioOfficial great news! Thanks man
you should delete first the master bus?
Great Video. Helped me a lot setting up. Is it possible to have a separate FX instance and route send to other instances or do you have to have the effects in every instance?
In my latest template, I have groups of instruments in my Logic template (Strings, Winds, Brass etc) and have FX Busses for each group of instruments. I try to keep all FX in my DAW, but this is personal preference!
Little confused about what is a network switch that you connect to the router?
A network switch is essentially a way to add additional ports to your router. If you are near your router, and have spare ports, there's actually no need for the switch. For my setup, the studio is quite far away, so I have a long cable running from m y router to the switch in the studio, and then I plug my studio machines into the switch. It gives them both an internet connection, and a fast way to communicate with each other (necessary for VEP - Wireless is not fast enough!). I hope this helps.
If I use mac as the main computer and window as the slave, can I use vst that are supported in win but not in mac ??? Thank you
Yep! If it loads in VEP on your windows machine, you can run it to Logic!
This is very helpful, thank you.
Very enjoyable melody, would be great to hear more!
Thank you, Dan!
Great! can you please show how much latency you have? and do you need an internet switch too or a single router is fine? thanks :)
You can use the router if it's close by. The only reason I use a switch is because the router is far away!
I received a template in which there are already 45 contact players, I can connect them to the program viena ensemble pro?..if it can be done you can't help tell how to do it thank you very much.Sorry for the mistakes, I'm just using Google Translate.
Audio Monkey Great video. I'm still trying to work out how the kontakt library pick up the signal from my DAW, do need to the have the software on both machines ? Or cubase on both machines ?. How do you send the Library, is it just to the slave ? and the directories just to the master ? ,bit confused myself , please could shine a light for please. I have 2 computers win 10 plus 2 dongles Cheers
You only need the library on the slave machine. Essentially that machine does all the heavy lifting. When you hook it up to your main machine, it pulls all the data from the slave. There is no need to have it on both machines.
@@AtomicAudioOfficial How do you get your library on the the slave machine via VE P is there way to this, do you literally load everything on a drive ? sorry I'm trying avoid a long ordeal of putting Kontakt on another machine and getting it all wrong, kontakt takes a while to unload but that .Thankyou I wish VSL would explain in a bit more detail
@@goddersollie67 you do have to install kontakt and all your instruments on that second machine. Think of VE Pro as the insert part of your DAW, you load everything on that machine to save the resources on your local machine. You load the instrument into VE pro in the same way you would do on Cubase or Logic, this does mean transferring all your files over though. It is a bit of a lengthy process to get it all over, but once you have done it, you save tonnes of time by not having to constantly freeze tracks!
@@goddersollie67 by having your libraries on your slave machine, you dont need them on your main machine 😄
@@AtomicAudioOfficial Got both machines talking each other, right so now how to deal with upload to the slave, where do I install kontakt ? I'm looking at 3 folders here which one to install Download Manager? VSL folder or V E Directory ? And Thankyou Audio Monkey for your time, Appreciated Bro Oliie.
Awesome tutorial! Is there a way you can explain step by step how to synchronise Vienna and Digital Performer? Thanks in advance.
Great stuff! So, how does steinberg's VST System Link work? I'd like to understand because knowledge is power. And, I would like to be able to see and understand the differences for myself.
This is gr8.., thanks for the guide.. Do u knw the way of doing same with the efx as insert point like the waves studiogrid. That would be help for may users who have laptop or older CPUs.
Dude I’ve been looking for this information for so long, thanks!
Great start up videos, very clear and easy to follow. Thanks, made my life a lot easier. Any chance you can do some on some on Cubase itself, come to Cubase from Logic and instructional videos on a new system are always handy and appreciated.
One word D-Esser!
Hey, thank you. I do wish you had been a bit straighter in your presentation and taken it more slowly however. Don't be nervous thinking that you're being boring. Not everyone knows Cubase, not everyone knows East West.
Really nice stuff! Thanks! I've smashed all the smashers! Salutations from cloudy and ghostly quiet Ireland! ☘️☮️🤘🏽🤠👍🏽☮️☘️
Thank you from just across the pond in England :)
how can I add a third slave computer? which one will become the server then?
I have bad experiences with using VEPro 5 and 6 between 2 macs - MacPro and Macbook Pro. Much easier and much stable, and not complicated is installation of simple ipMIDI soft (20 ports of MIDI over LAN), additional interface audio or digital output from slave comp. That's it. On slave comp. you run host app (like RAX, V-stack etc.) or directly standalone VST. For example opening standalone Kontakt you can use 64 for independence instr. If you need more - simply run second instance of Kontakt.
Great stuff Lea!
Thank you, Paul! :)
hey Man great Video I have a question can I use an iMac as a Slave computer ? Thanks
What is the latency, can you control it?
You mixed up the terms client & server. The computer running the vienna session is the server and the computers connecting to it via the plugin are the slaves.
Do you have any info on what to look for when buying a windows machine? Just something with a good processor and a lot of ram basically?
instrument vst only?
Good job on video I will subscribe
Using this with FL Studio is a nightmare. Great video by the way.
fl studio is a rubbish toy anyway
which machine requires the audio interface connected to it? do both machines require an interface?
The master, I’m eager to believe
Hi there, thank you for this two tutorials, very helpful! I've a question about mixing. What if I wish mix inside Cubase? Can I get separate audio inputs for each instrument that is running in the server? I have an Apogee Ensemble audio device connected to my MBP with an UAD satellite both connected via Thunderbolt. I wish I can mix in Cubase and not in the Vienna Mixer. How does it work for routing each audio channel to my DAW?
Marco Viale: Do the following in Vienna Ensemble: - Select the bus/channel (that you want to mix in Cubase) > - Go to Channel menu > - Insert Input>> _Your_channel_name_ >> _Your_channel_name_2._ Now you have a new channel coupled with the original one. - may help to assign the same OUT to the added channel and the original bus/channel/track, (e.g. out1 / out 2). Given that you set your MIDI routing stuff correctly in both Cubase and Vienna, this should create separate out channel in your DAW's mixture, hopefully without the need to do extra stuff:) Worked for me in FL and I believe it will work in Cubase b/c it's Vienna dependent.
Hi. You left out the specs of the two computers you are demonstrating with . It would be very helpful to know. If you get the time, an answer would be appreciated. Jay
Hello There, awesome Video, but a short question. Do I Need 2 keys for Vienna Ensemble pro or is one for both the main and slave pc enough? Thank you!
Not sure if you ever figured this out, but you only need a license on the machine that is going to run the VEPRO server application. You dont need a license to run the VEPRO plugin in your DAW.
hi thanks good video just have two question. will i need two elicenser one for each computer if so why? and does each computer share the same ip address and will any ip address work?
Maybe the REAL ONLY ONE tutorial (this and the previous about the hardware side) about how to setting up a VEP network! TNX man! Yeah... i have a lot of questions... but just picking up the most important ones for my studio project that involve - over the use of a master PC and 2 or 3 slaves (i have the EW Composer Cloud too but also a lot of other libraries on Kontakt and a lot of other synth plugins) - even the use of a Waves SoundGrid system for running a lot realtime fx plugins (mostly Waves) AND, for this purpose, a dedicated audio interface (Apogee Symphony with 32+32 I/O). So the questions are 1) the MIDI (or MIDI over USB) connection(s) with your master keyboard or other midi controllers are on the MAIN computer or on the SLAVES? 2) the FX plugins need to be installed on the SLAVE like the instruments plugins? 3) If you have plugins that need an iLock (type II or III) usb key do you need to have 2 of them (for the MASTER and the SLAVE) like the Steinberg usb key? 4) in YOUR rig the audio interface is installed on the MASTER pc or on the SLAVE? 5) the SoundGrid system needs 3 components to work: a) the pc with the installed plugins ( the SLAVE with the server part of VEP); b) a SoundGrid server that is the unit that offload the pc for the pluging processing (and i think this must be installed via cat5 ethernet on the SERVER pc too); c) AND a specific audio interface compatible with the SoundGrid system (the Apogee i mentioned before) for the realtime no-latency processing (specs sayz less than 0.8ms!!!). So i think that even the Apogee audio interface need to be installed on the SERVER. But... if the MASTER pc needs and audio interface too (for recording and playing on Cubase)... so i need 2 audio intefaces (one on the MASTER for all the VST instruments plugins) and the Apogee on the SERVER for the audio tracking with realtime fxs (for the mics and all the "real" instruments)?. I'm a bit (actually A LOT) confusing about this setting! 6) you say that you build templates with undred of tracks... so what are the specs of the SERVER pc to do this? I think that because all the hard work is done by the servers so they must be the most powerfull pcs... not the MASTER pc. It is correct? Apologize for my bad english and for so many questions... but hey... now you are THe MAN about DAW network! ;-) Tnx in advance. Cheers.
Nice tutorial! But how could I learn cc control with my DAW controller through the ethernet? Before I just opened the VST interface in my sequencer, right click any faders or knobs and got control with.
Although I bought two keys the VEP manual imp0lies you only need one. Can you verify this because if so I can use my lap top with the second key.
I don't understand why you would require a cubase protection dongle for the slave since VEP does not use Cubase? Am I missing something here?
VE Pro uses the Steinberg dongle to hold the license :)
It would have been better if it were ilok. Wouldn't have had to go out and buy another dongle! Too many dongles!!!!
@@AtomicAudioOfficial 3 dongles taking up valuable space ..ugghhh
@@engx3733 Yep, I do love the new iLok Cloud though, certainly the way forward :)
I just bought a Vienna Key (looks the same) which I plan to transfer my Vienna licenses to. I'll keep my Steinberg key on my master with the Cubase license. Hopefully it works.
Great video man! I've got a question for you. I have been battling with these whole VEPRO (Slave) / DAW (Main Machine) Dynamics for quite some time. I can't optimize my performance (VEPRO shows 33%-42% even when nothing is playing). I have a large template - iMac retina 5k main and PC Octacore 64GB, SSDs etc etc.. My question is - Right not I have 2 big Instances into one server project (which it was called vframes and Metaframes before VEPRO6). Do you think I will get better performance by using 10+ separate instances (ie. splitting up my two big instances into smaller chunks)? What do you recommend? I'm also not sure what to do with the multi core threading setup in VEPRO... I really appreciate the help. Thanks a lot! PS: I just got Cubase Pro 10, migrating from Logic X
Hey Gabriel, thanks for your comment. Firstly you will find that cubase will handle it much better than logic. I'm not sure why, but I have found logic crashes and struggles to handle VEP much more than cubase. That isn't a knock on Logic, I use it daily! - also, I find that if you have your buffer set to "none", it uses a lot of resources when idle. I would say get into the habit of increasing the buffer, even if it's only for playback! I have tried both many instances and a few instances in my project and I didn't really see a huge difference in performance. Hope this helps!
