JVC JAS-22 Amplifier Restoration
มุมมอง 17Kปีที่แล้ว
A process of taking an aged JVC vintage hifi amplifier - that was unloved and designing reliability back into it. I get the JA-S 22 - 44 and 77 a few times for audio restoration. Vintage hifi is coming back in a big way. Sleepers like these are now finding their way into the collectors inventory. A fine design that packs a punch and shouldn't be mistreated. Glad to bring this one back to life. ...

Cold start my 1979 Corvette. Yes a nice rebuilt L82 with Hooker headers and N11 side-pipes, glass chromed T tops - long headers, Edelbrock 600CFM top. OK it's a 79 instead of my goal a 1968 454 Tripower - but heck, this is muscle on a budget.

    What do you think about the build quality and sound quality of the KA6100 as compared to a Pioneer 50 watt amp like the SA6800?

    • @1sostatic
      @1sostatic 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Trio has the better damping factor due to more stored energy , more VA in the transformer- but apart from that, sound differences? , there isnt much in it. They're both great designs.

    Take no offence, I watch a lot of restoration videos of amps, this is an extremely well done repair, but not a restoration. For that you would have needed to disassemble everything, clean up (especially those dirty boards) and re-assemble. I still love the video though !

    • @1sostatic
      @1sostatic 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The boards did get alchohol cleaned and dissassembled enough to gain access to replace ALL transistors. I's not a car going into a spray shop. thx

      @@1sostatic well thanks for clarifying that, appreciated. :) Btw, a question. What's up with those rolled wires on a pin ?? I saw that on an older Denon amp and now this one. Is not that gonna oxidase on long term, and potentially cause noise ? Since I saw on two different brands already, I guess it was the way to do it back in those days...

    • @1sostatic
      @1sostatic 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@tysimon There are a many brands that use that wiring technique and a lot has stood up to the 50 years of life. Some, if over corroded and brittle - engineers need to make the choice to resolder/rewire. Especially if multiple engineers have been in prior. ... As for "cause" of noise... chemistry degradation in capacitors , transistors, resistors that have left their original values...etc., are a far bigger contributor to noise; along with product failure, gain and bandwidth issues, than wiring.

    • @1sostatic
      @1sostatic 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I personally find digital to be a synthesis of the original sound and convenient. When we make comparisons analogue offers a wider soundstage ... the digital systems tend to fence it in a bit. ...well thats my personal experience anyway ... we have a showroom where you can compare both with the same musical performance

    I have the same receiver. Did you order a few capacitor kits that had all the different values? I plane on doing the same thing. Yours turned out like new 👍

    • @1sostatic
      @1sostatic 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Look out on those poisonous capacitor kits, they often put the wrong chemistry in and full of cheap knock offs. My advice is stick to sources that deal direct with Panasonic, Elna, Chemicon, Kemet, Nichicon. There is a lot of myths and bad science out there. 😗In electrolyic capacitors,... engineer wannabees put Silk laced dielectric where Teflon goes... that ends in bad news. I've had to undo other people's work because of those events. .... I may do a video on the topic of precise Transistor and Cap replacement one day.

    🤗 🇬🇧- my auntie had this “vintage” JVC HIFI set; amplifier, receiver, record player & speakers with a SHARP cassette deck, placed on the Tapley 33 furniture in aunties lounge. My uncle had an elaborate speaker system for it ~ the 2 JVC speakers at each end of the Tapley cabinets the HIFI was sitting on, 2 speakers (different brand) in the children’s play area next to the front door, and 2 speakers above the cupboards & cooker hood in the kitchen with a change-over switch in the coat cupboard = evenly distributed music for the downstairs of their house. My memories of this HIFI is seeing the analog power meters swinging when Auntie & Uncle were playing music on it [vintage eye-candy] and when my brothers, cousins and friends were play-fight tumbling in front of the Tapley cabinets, below the amplifier one of them flicked up a leg and jogged the volume knob - briefly turning up the volume, before they had realised what had happened and quickly turned it back down and me seeing the meters reacting to the volume adjustment.
