Surplus Oddities: PASGT Helmet with Detachable Liner
On this first of Surplus Oddities, I have got an odd one for you today. A PASGT Helmet with a detachable liner.
This helmet, unfortunately, is lost to history a bit since I was unable to find a good source of testing or trial information. Either way, I am glad to finally make a video on this, I apologize for the delay. Hope you enjoyed this video, and thanks for watching!

Manchu Hair - What was it and how was it made?
มุมมอง 4.8K11 หลายเดือนก่อน
Manchu Hair is just one of those weird things in history that most of us have probably seen but haven't put much thought into it. This is the first time I really made a kit that had a bit more too it, it was a fun experience, and I hope this video can help someone else with their kit! This video did take entirely too long to make, so I apologize both for that and for the fact that it is not the...

Excited to have Hampus who happens to be a member of the Swedish Home Guard on the show. We discuss compulsory service, life as a Home Guardsman and more. This was a great topic for someone like me, a former National Guardsman to compare our experiences and get insight on how the Home Guard operates! I hope you enjoy this episode and I'm working hard to get this podcast back on schedule!
Let’s Talk the Tactical Load Bearing Vest in 60 seconds or less!
มุมมอง 28Kปีที่แล้ว
The TLBV or often called LBV 88 or just LBV, was an attempt to replace the ALICE with a complete vest. The idea goes back to the M1967 Combat Vest that Natick Labs abandoned only a few years into that program. This piece of kit has a rocky history from the soldiers who used it. I’ve seen many anecdotal accounts that suggest the vest was not well received. Coming from my experiences with the suc...

Great video. Watching it filled me with glee
SaDF pattern 83 way ahead of all this gear
I have one. The soviet one
Where do the mags go tho
Add a stamina bar
These are helping me find kit. Keeo it up Brodie
I'm glad to hear that! I'm hoping to make some more soon!
Dh-132 Was it used in the Vietnam War?
As far as I can find, no, but I can't say with 100% certainty. It was accepted into service in late 72, early 73. Which would have been pretty late in the war and after US ground troops had already pulled out.
😊good job
This was supposed to replace my baby cvc?!
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Ah yes, the mop top. Or sideshow bob.
In the Independent war in croatia comes this vests
Just scored this and the enhanced version on a bidding sight for 5.99 and 10 bucks respectively.
I have a semi.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I'd honestly prefer the soviet padded leather cap over this ...
For real, I'm not sure what they were thinking.
Of course they used a hockey liner
made a nice pillow in the M60A3 in the early 80's in West Germany.
Reforger 1982 Carbine Fortress . Part of the Orange forces with 1st Armored Division . Had a Simulated Nuclear response release . also saw the 1st appearance of the M1 at Reforger
I love that you called the closure on the last model hook and pile and not velcro. Just like rubber bands are called elastic retention bands. Lol
That’s what we wore into the Gulf War and oddly enough they issued us Kevlar Flak Covers because they were manufactured in the Desert chocolate chip colors .
“Don’t shoot I’m with the science team!”
Wore one Vietnam 69-70
I still cant find the first version. I have 3 lbv88e with correct buttpacks. All are new old stock. I still prefer alice over these though. Ive put together several kits all new old stock. Some how i keep finding unused alice and iifs gear. I collect , plus use the gear during trainings and FTX's. For such "old" gear it still works great for the basic civilian rifleman. Highly recommend either alice or lbv88e , especially if on a budget.
I just bought one of the first model IBVs off of EBay. There were one or two other sellers offering it as well incase you still want one. Considering how many EIBVs I keep seeing in videos and elsewhere I feel like maybe I got lucky finding the original version.
@@majorborngusfluunduch8694 they're not easy to find. I still prefer alice, just would be nice to have the first pattern vest for the collection.
The M69 vests were used to supplement the hillbilly armor on HUMVEEs in Iraq in 04'. There were piles of them lying out by the motor pool once the up armored M1113s arrived.
Oh, that is interesting! I guess it's better than nothing.
Does the filter have asbestos?
No but it does have chromium.
I actually own an A1! However it's really interesting because the mask DOES have an A1 cup, but it's actually a 1991 production, which is interesting because it's before the actual issue year, but clearly must've been upgraded into an A1 later in it's service! Very nice mask, comfortable, practical, uses common filters, very nice.
Oh wow, that is pretty cool!
You need to upload again! You’re one of my favourite military ytbers for you awesome concise style!
I know, I know! I need to make way more content! Thank you, though! I'll try to get more content out soon!
I'm upset their are not 100s of these videos love ur videos. Love from sweden 🇸🇪
I really appreciate that, thank you! I really need to make more!
I think the Avon s10 is the best design.
That is very fair! The S10 is a fantastic mask!
New subscriber btw
Man you're underrated
Thank you very much!
Two years late, but Arma Reforger is probably in the best state it ever was, still a bit disappointing that it is not a "proper" Arma title, but I have a feeling the Arma 4 is not that far away, great video on the topic of Reforger btw
Thank you! I still need to buy it, but I keep putting it off.
I have this combined with ALICE for extra mags and carrying space and hands down the best option for long patrols
got a polish MP-4 made 1985, would the M6 hood still fit it?
It's a possibility, but I'm not sure.
I wore a vest something like that but not exactly. The fastener was all Velcro. It wasn’t too bad until you had to fire from the prone position. Then it would push up on the back of your helmet and the front would obstruct your vision. On the range some of us would wear our helmets backwards while firing from the prone. Just don’t let the range safeties catch you doing it.
It could have been an M69 Flak Vest. Either way, thanks for the comment!
The British army bought a lot of M52 and M69 vests for use in Northern Ireland during the early days of the troubles, they saw service as a theatre issue vest until 1981 when they were replaced by a vest that contained plates called the INIBA.
That was my first thought when I saw it
its surprises me how dufferent US and Soviet cold war era uniform look. The US soldier looks like a advanced combat unit with ergonomic webbing and camo BDU. And the Soviet one has no changes since WW2
At least in the units I’ve been in helmet scrim is very uncommon. By that I mean I am the only person I ever see in my vicinity that has it. I used the pieces from a camo net repair kit. If it’s borrowed just fold up the excess and return it when you PCS. If you buy your own repair kit just cut it to size.
33:22 very accurate. This is why I sometimes hate the militaria "community" is there is such a constant pissing contest going on. It's honestly pathetic. I guess every hobby has their snobs though. I mostly collect 3rd Reich, that is what tickles my pickle, but this guy is so right about it ALL being worth collecting and studying no matter the monetary value. 3rd Reich prices are stupidly over priced anyways. I'm glad there are people out there collecting Scandinavian stuff because it's all important to the overall story.
Everything needs to be preserved and documented. Thank you for the comment!
Great podcast, I look forward to watching more of your videos. Researching is so important. Too many people buying stuff they have no idea what they're buying. When you research a lot, you get used to it, and it becomes really fun.
I appreciate that and thank you!
Amazing video! And this is a really controversial topic. My take on it is that the only reason I’d open it sealed is if said item is really common and easy to get a hold of sealed. I recently bought an m17a1 gas mask that’s new old stock and the only reason I’m opening it is for one, it’s in a simple cardboard box so it’s not really sealed to begin with, and for two, I wanna make a video on it and document it due to the fact there are not many if any videos on it.
Thank you very much! I tried to be as fair as I could be considering how passionate people can get about this topic. I try my hardest not to open things, but sometimes you don't have much choice. Thanks for the comment!
So its like an M1 helmet but PASGT
Pretty much! I'd argue even less useful since the M1 liner could be used for things, guard duty, drill, and so forth.
Really good video! Never knew these even existed
Thank you! It's a really obscure piece of history, so I'm glad I could show it off!
'had one back in the day
I had one of these insured when I went into the army in 1984
This reminds me of a book called 1984, by George Orwell...
Now the brand new ak24 is coming starting in 2025, I think.
Oh, that's pretty cool!
Boys: Heheheheh, M69.
