    Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t the sheet music you have up supposed to be for the cello and orchestra version?

    It's BEYOND brilliant. Nobody on Earth could have scored a piece like that other than Williams. He is uniquely special. It's the unique combination of the thrill of flying, childhood, imagination, and heroics, and a sprinkle of magic. The orchestrations were off the charts. Beautiful meolodies that only John could create. GOD created the perfect composer.

    "The Chamber of Secrets" is one of the most colorful of his concert arrangements in my opinion. You get a lot of classic Williams'-isms in one piece. 9:48 His eerie sliding harmonic gliss textures for villains and tense scenes (Home Alone) 10:10 The classic, insistent, twisting and turning legato string lines played across all octaves (Star Wars Prequals) 11:25 Fast-paced brass rhythms under high, sustained string melodic figures (The NBC "Mission" Theme)

      Yeah pretty cool. Gives the Suite more coherence. Same with the beginning of all the Pieces except the Lockhart one. They all begin with these kind of pulsating Chords.

    Adore this suite. I love the orchestration, especially the change at 02:04 and after, where you get a varied version of the theme distantly, as a kind of phantom. Then the French Horns come in, with the original idea occurring in the background, bubbling around the edges. *kisses fingers like a chef*

    I think Steven Spielberg once said something to the effect of this being John Williams' best piece, I mean, he said he liked it so much when he first heard it that he ran home to grab his clarinet, at least that's the story I've heard/read. Well, while it's really hard to make that statement given all the great work John has done, to say this is the greatest piece John Williams ever wrote, when listening to it it's really hard to disagree. But then I think the same when I hear the Superman march, the music from E.T., and his work for Harry Potter, oh, and the music from Hook which is greatly underappreciated.

    Wow, thank you so much. Not only is it great to see the score, it's a true gift, and one small thing I was able to confirm is that the ostinato rhythm is actually played slightly differently by the brass and strings after the opening piccolos' intro, but the recording/performance is also fantastic, one of the very best I've been able to find here on YT.

    • @TromboneConductor767
      @TromboneConductor767 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think this is the recording they put on the 20th Century Master’s CD they did for JW back in the 90s. The performance and recording is indeed superior the recording that is on most compilations. The tempo is slightly slower, making it a little more stately. Also the snare drum at 55 is missing in this recording, which I actually prefer. You can hear the pitches of the low ostinato better without the snare. I bet he just wanted to try it differently. The snare drummer is really a star here at 84 with those interludes hahaha. Amazing.
