I made this channel to do watercolor review videos mainly to give back to the art community online that has helped me tremendously. You can also follow me in instragram~ which I've just recently joined where I try to post one artwork a day.
Winsor and Newton Drawing Ink Review
For last year's inktober, I wanted to use ink and some people I follow like Heikala have been using ink similar to how you use watercolor. So for the challenge I ordered one set of inks. Then later, I found myself buying even more to add to my collection.
The video is a review of my personal thoughts about the product. I also wanted to showcase the rest of my ink materials just to show you that I have tried a lot of other ink related art materials before giving this recommendation.
That said, I'm still new to "ink" and I have comparably more experience in using watercolor! I hope you enjoy watching this video.
I would like to thank pixabay, and youtube for the royalty free background music! Also, one of the fanarts I made is of LOFI girl. I'm a big fan of lofi and often use it when I write fanart, or when I just need something else to listen to other than my playlist.
Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions!

Not a very popular brand in the watercolor world, but can seem like a good pick with its attractive circular packaging. This watercolor review will get into the things that I loved and disliked about it. I know I haven't posted in awhile but thanks to everyone who subscribed while I was inactive. I hope to post more soon. Feel free to let me know your thoughts on the comments down below. Also e...

มุมมอง 7K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Schmincke is one of my favorite watercolors so this review shouldn't be a surprise but I do hope it helps you if you're trying to decide if you want to get this. If you have any questions about these paints, please don't hesitate to reach out to me! I really love this brand that I don't mind actively promoting them to anyone who wants to get into watercolor however, while these brands are great...

Sennelier Artist VS Student Watercolor! Test Pack Unboxing and comparison with 12 Pan La Petite
มุมมอง 1.6K4 ปีที่แล้ว
I hope this helps you decide between getting the Artist version or the La Petite Student Watercolors. I'll also did paintings for both products. In the first part of the video, I was really cold so I was wearing a tiger onesie just in case you're wondering. To clarify, I'm not an avid supporter of only using expensive brands but sometimes it's also challenging to keep using cheaper products jus...
Testing out the Koh-I-Noor Brilliant Dye Based Watercolors - Is it worth the price?!
มุมมอง 5474 ปีที่แล้ว
Hi guys! This is the first of the many watercolor review videos that I plan on posting. I chose to review Koh-i-Noor's Brilliant Dye Based Watercolor because it's a relatively unknown watercolor brand that's also very cheap and quite unique. I first saw it when a friend got it from Europe, and I always wanted to try it out to see if it's any good. This is not your typical student grade paint si...
Can you make more video on your channel?
i love how u love them! i am using W&N and Van Gogh student level. But now that i want to improve in painting and make it a proper hobby i orderd the 18 color schmincke set, whisky palette & 2 of the super granulating ones. i cannot wait!
Lovely video and artwork. Could you recommend a washi tape that doesn't tear paper, please?
You can use hairdryer to heat it, and it'll come easily, it only can leave glue if it was staying on paper for long time, tho it depends
@@thealaris thank you :)
Very nice! Thank you.
Can I use my Daniel Smith already poured pans into the schmienck tin? I have the half poured from his DS tin.
But my pébéo has the pigment information . It's on one of the side of the pan.
What does one use to clean the brushes
It's mostly water. But sometimes I use soap. There are brush cleaners in art shops but I never had to use them and just buy them again once the brushes are no longer as good as new. I try not to let ink or paint dry on my brushes.
Hi....long time no hear...still painting?
T o T I decided to focus on writing. I'm about to publish my first novel :D But yes I do still paint but not as much compared to before.
@@niervanae3571 whats the novel about? Can i proof read
@@SaudagarWarna Ahh it's a dark gay fantasy novel :D I'm actually sending out free advanced reader copies right now but I don't know if that's your thing. www.nvleriem.com/arc-signup.html
I would appreciate any constructive criticism though :D if you're open to it, it's close to getting published so I'm not sure how much feedback I can fit.
@@niervanae3571 dark gay fantasy?
hello, i see you have same as me set with not yellow maple red pan, you know why is that?
I'm sorry I don't know, but I'm glad we have the same set :3
can i use them on kaweco (or a regular) fountain pen?
I don't think so. I'm unsure of the actual brand but I wouldn't recommend even for the ones you can take apart like the twsbi. Since the ink on these will clog up your pens... So it'll be tough to clean and may ruin your pen. Please stick to fountain pen inks~❤️
Thank you!!! <3 @@niervanae3571
I too really like Schmincke, I don’t own many other brands but, always return to Schmincke! Thanks
I love the 24 water colour pan of pebeo. I ordered the 24 tubes of 12 ml pebeo watercolour set. Water colours are my third medium next to oil and acrylic paints. I began whit acrylic and watercolour but somehow i forgot about hem or i don,t know what happend why i left watercolours. Now i am getting back into watercolour paint. After this i wanna try winsor and Newton acrylic, oil and watercolour 😊🖐🏾👋🏾👍🏾
Are winsor and Newton watercolours good? I wanna try that after this set
Omg i love the watercolour brush omg i didnt think you would get a brush whit this watercolour set
I love pebeo oil and acrylic paints. I have to try there watercolour paints in 24 tubes 12 ml. But i love the oil and acrylic paints of them. They are just great budget paints for a biginner like myself and the paints are just so great to work whit. I buy them from amazone. They don,t sell pebeo in art stores in were i live. I live the netherlands 😊🖐🏾👍🏾👋🏾
Really nice review and beautiful artwork. I just ordered this set, thank you! So excited!! :)
Hm... •3• Nice review! Tho I'd say light fastness is too oversteemated in the internet art community You *can* display artwork made with not LF materials, as long as they don't get hit directly with sun rays (which applies to any artwork, honestly) and they will last a good amount of years, even a couple of decades before starting to fade, and even then, it's a slow process, specially if it is protected with glass or fixative. Personally I'd say LF is important only for museum or really high-end artists •3• Tho yeah, any artwork sold with this kinda materials should include a warning and care instructions (Sorry to ramble here, seems like I had something to say hehe😅)
This is a good reminder. It's just that some people display pieces in the living room where there's likely light. It will fade. So it won't be as good as the original. Digital products don't matter. In fact some of the best art are made from materials that don't really pay attention to light fastness. Like the poster color art from Ghibli. Those are classics. And prints of digital or trad. I care about them cause most brands care, and people who pay attention to the quality of the paint care. Otherwise why should some paint be more expensive than others.
Hey! thank you for such an honest and wonderful review! is the spiral book you are using the same saunders waterford one you show at the very beginning of the video?
The music overwhelms your quiet voice, which is a shame.
Great review thx! Are they the same thing as watercolour ink?
Thanks. They aren’t the same. These are permanent and while you can layer colors like watercolor and mix them in a similar fashion, once these inks dry, they cannot be scrubbed off… so they behave differently. Watercolor ink or watercolor in general allows layers of pigment to rest on the paper and tend to be less permanent after drying. You should definitely try both to see the difference.
@@niervanae3571 Hi Nier, thanks or the explanation! Much appreciated.
Saludos
What do u think about buying them
Love the way you make your reviews. So many supposed TH-cam artists fail to realize, what they would know of they were actually artists, that nothing can be learned from swatching. One can't determine how paints will layer, travel, flow, lift, mix, intact etc. These things can only be determined in an actual painting. So, great job! Thanks for doing it right.
Schmincke watercolours are unparalleled, in my opinion. Superior to all other manufacturers, although Kremer make some useful and unique colours, W&N do also make a few workhorse pigments too. Can’t help but be biased when they’re just so so stunning!
Do you like the tin that the 48 came in?
Thanks ☮️👨🏼🦰
Ah…those were such lovely demonstrations, thank you!
Did you pay any duties buying from Jacksons? I live at Canada and I consider buying from them, but I’m afraid about the duty… do you know the % they tax this kind of material?
It honestly depends. There's three types of shipping like international post, FedEx, or the other option... I've ordered from Jackson's four times now and there was a time they shipped international tracked shipping for 30 days and declared a different value than what was inside. So I didn't have to pay taxes for that. But whenever I choose FedEx (cause I want to see things right away) I had to pay for shipping fees 25 plus and taxes on top of that. I may have my mind mixed up with other services cause I do recall that choosing this option lately means when you pay by FedEx you also pay taxes so you don't need to pay the add on once it gets delivered to you. In the past, I missed a delivery and had to claim in in the FedEx store. As for how much percent they tax, it's about the same depending where you are from in Canada. Like... Different provinces tax things differently. Tho if the item as around 25 or was it less than 40? It's usually free from being taxed. There are websites better equipped to tell you the exact numbers. But tbh, the prices of the taxed goods for certain art materials overseas is still cheaper than the almost 2x markup you find here in Canada. So, before I want to buy stuff from here, Jackson's is one of the first places I check together with eBay ✨ I hope this helps.
Also. I have to add that you should play around with the items in your cart and watch the shipping fees change. They go down after a certain amount of items but I think it's also affected by weight and dimension. 🌟 So I often buy more stuff I like to make sure I get a cheap enough shipping cost. (Sounds counter intuitive I know but sometimes adding more and paying less shipping actually makes you pay slightly more or even less than what it would have cost you if you were only ordering one item or so X.x)
Very beautiful and inspiring! I love your technique of layering! Thank you soo much ! Big hug!
You're welcome and thanks <3
Thanks for the video! I you were to recommend one set of 24/36 (I’ve found both brands online in the same price) - would it be Rembrandt or Schmincke? 😊
I'm quite biased. I would probably go for Schmincke. Rembrandt tends to be more vivid (some reviewers say they added artificial brighteners) so if you like Van Gogh, Rembrandt seems to be a one up in that direction. I have the 12 pan set for Rembrandt and typically find it more expensive than Schmincke where I'm from but I know that price tends to fluctuate depending on where you're buying it. From a collector's perspective, I feel like you should go with your gut instinct. Or you can just buy them both. Right now I already know Schmincke is my favorite brand however, there are certain colors from other sets that out perform other Schmincke paint in certain ways. Not all colors have the same consistency and application, and there are different types of effects depending on the pigment used. Some granulate, some are transparent, some are opaque... SO having said that, when you do find the budget, you can mix and match different brands to make your favorite set :D
@@niervanae3571 Thanks for your opinion 😊
Fantastic video! I thoroughly admire your artistic ability and your presentation style.
Thank you ♥️♥️♥️
Thank you for the review! So,this inks are waterproof? I’m thinking of use them with watercolor (line art, backgrounds, details) and I’m worried about them bleeding
They're waterproof when they dry.
Love the review and your voice is soothing! I have a question; what are the colours you paint at the first photo? love those light yellow and tangy orange at @5.22 thank you for the video!
I'm glad you enjoyed it! For the first photo I used the Winsor and Newton - Vermilion Ink (very bright orange), and a mix of WN Sunshine Yellow with Speedball gold for the shimmery effect. Gold /metallic doesn't really show up as much on print so if you're planning to reproduce without any holo/metallic print, regular yellow is fine too.
Serious ASMR vibes here! Love this review.
I really like the Studio´s, I wanted to buy this ones to try, maybe are better. Thanks for the review, greetings from Chile!
I have the students grade watercolor and I noticed that it has quite a pure pigmentation in comparison with VanGogh watercolor. I like VanGogh most. In the same time I heard that the professional line one of the best form the artists watercolor, so I dream to try it when I started to draw better
I have a lot of favorite artist brand watercolor paints. The cheapest one is probably PWC and my Mission Gold, or St Petersburg. Paul Rubens is advertised as artist grade but it's somewhere in between artist and student. It's also a good alternative but from all of them... St Petersburg is similar to Van Gogh in pigmentation. Van Gogh has a higher artist grade line called Rembrandt which I also like but don't use as often because it has brighteners. Out of all the brands I love Schmincke the most. But Holbein is also good for a more opaque type of paint. If you enjoy Van Gogh a lot, do check out White Nights - St Petersburg which is a lot cheaper and relatively more affordable - almost as cheap as Van Gogh! You can easily find it online~
@@niervanae3571 thank you for your comment! I have White Nights and they students grade - Sonnet. With White Night I've got a small set but in the whole set I liked just a few paints only. So, it seems it's needed to choose them separately based on pigments and review as well. With VanGogh a bit easer, the set is quite affordable and paints quite good there. So, I even took 29 tubes of VanGogh. Regarding White Nights, if I will have time and needs I will try to choose good colours there.
Really helpfull! thanksss
That's good to know.
Have you tried Daniel Smith they are my absolute favorite watercolors....I highly recommend them!
Yes I do have a set of daniel smith colors too! I just haven't got the time to review them but yeaaa they are really fun to use too! It's part of my top 10!
Omg that was my other account that replied sorry~
Very informative, thanks!
What is this watercolor pen are you using? Love it!
Pentel water brush~ they're pretty amazing especially if you want gradients.
I adore Schmincke too. Best of absolutely every brand I tried. They are so smooth, so rich and delicate at the same time. Exactly what I find watercolor should be.
How do they compare with Rembrandt in your opinion?
I love paint comparison videos!!! Love love love. Thank you for making this and sharing it with us❤
Nice video. I have the same set, from the same vendor. Enjoy!
Jackson art is super nice. If only shipping wasn't expensive I'd probably buy more there. 🤣
@@niervanae3571 Honestly, I think their shipping (to the USA) is VERY reasonable, especially if you have a more expensive order. Try making fewer (but larger) orders. Also, the prices are so good on watercolors that that helps mitigate costs.
@@65sunnyday that's true. I might get myself a birthday present. Their paper stock isn't bad too. They have a good collection.
