This simple habit unleashed my creativity | MORNING PAGES
Wake up. Don't check your phone. Instead, grab a pen and paper and dump all the thoughts that have been clouding your mind. Then leave your journaling session with clarity and inspiration to pursue your creative goals.
In this video, I'll talk you through the transformative power of Morning Pages, a journaling practice from Julia Cameron's book The Artist's Way that is a palate cleanser for your creativity. I was skeptic at first; however, after about week 3, I could already see the benefits and now I crave writing my pages first thing in the morning.

What to pack for the Camino de Santiago | Post-Camino Gear Review
มุมมอง 38K10 หลายเดือนก่อน
In September of 2023, I walked 500 miles on the Camino de Santiago - more specifically the Camino Frances, from Saint Jean Pied de Port to Santiago de Compostela. Not sure about your packing list? Naturally, one of the main questions in every pilgrim's mind is what to bring on the Camino. Getting ready to go was a huge undertaking as a first-time hiker, but after countless hours of research and...
Hi Vanessa. I’ll be on the Camino for the 3rd time this spring starting in Logroño. I want to bring my drone but Im not sure about the security in the albergues. When there’s no lockers, you brought it with you everywhere? How many battery you had. I use to bring a little DSLR but I’ll leave it home, my iPhone pro does a really good job. Thanks for your answer.
How much did your bag end up weighing and also how expensive were the trekking pole to buy in Spain? :)
Thanks for the video! I’m using the same bag for the Camino in about 2 weeks. Can I ask, do you know how much your bag weighed with everything packed? Thanks again!
awesome video, thank you so much for the info! im building my packing list now! id love to hear about how you booked accomodation that is my biggest worry. I will be doing the same trek hopefully next spring!
Where did you get the bein Camino chacos! Love them!
aren’t they great?? you can customize your own chacos on their website. they had the beautiful mountainous background as an option for the heel leash strap. then i added the wording in white stitching on top www.chacos.com/US/en/customizable-women%27s-z-1-sandal/22589W.html
Ahh I just saw this in my mentions! You are sooo lovely! Very cool to see some familiar gear---especially glad the Chacos helped 🥰💖 Will you be sharing more about your Camino?
Stefanie, so wonderful to see your comment!! When Vanessa mentioned you in this video, it immediately brought a smile! I still consider your Camino as one of the best I’ve followed. I hope you’re well. Saludos from Orlando!!
Vanessa, for some reason my comment to you didn’t post! But it went like this: I hope you’re going to post your pilgrimage. I’d love to see it. This video was great and shows how much thought you put into your packing. Buen Camino.
Isn't it for a) spiritual anchoring/cosmic connection/charge/inspiration b) rootedness/grounding c) being at the receiving end of common goodness that we make a pilgrimage? So, primary/essential consideration for carrying/wearing especially holding in hands (or a conversation) is what it does to (cosmic energy/grace) receptivity level of our individual (human) systems. Are we feeling lighter/buoyant/nimble/energy circulation/sensation at various chakra points/pleasant taste in the mouth? Is that state of being elevated as we proceed?
Brilliant, thank you.
thank you for watching!
Great video 👍🏻 my turn in beginning of June, Frances!😎🇸🇪
buen camino! hope you have the best time
Thank you so much for such an incredibly informative video! I have been thinking about starting morning pages but wasn't sure where to start! I have searched TH-cam and Google and your video explained them best and you answered all my questions and alleviated my doubts! I'm starting morning pages tomorrow morning because my mind has been racing! I'll keep you posted! ❤
👍🏽❤️ thanks

I (Michelle) loved my backpack for my first 4 Caminos but this summer I switched to a luggage service and it made my Camino so much better. I agree a water bladder is the way to go, it's so practical! I love that you carried hot sauce, that's awesome! Buen Camino!
Wonderful to hear, Michelle! I'm sure you loved your day pack this time around :) Buen Camino!
Excellent, thorough, informative video. Did you have any trouble with the airline to carry-on the backpack? I have an Osprey Stratos 34L which is about an inch longer than your Mira 32L and had assumed I'd have to check it flying American Airlines to Madrid.
Hi Steve, thank you for watching! I had no trouble taking my backpack as a carry-on :) I measured it when it was fully loaded and it was under the maximum dimensions that the airline that I flew allowed, so I proceeded confidently (for American Airlines, carry-ons shouldn't exceed 22 x 14 x 9 inches). No one flagged it or tried to verify it at the airport either. The one watch out is that they don't allow trekking poles in carry-ons, so if you're planning to bring them with you, you might have to check them. Have a wonderful Camino!
I watched your Camino video since I'm leaving in six weeks to walk the French route. You did a thorough and enjoyable job of explaining your pack (I also have an Osprey 34L) . So I looked for your other videos. Although I haven't followed the Morning Pages process, I've done similar self-reflective activities over my 70 years. Here's a quote that's in line with your comments. It's taken from the memoirs of Lee Iaococca, the automobile executive who brought the world the Ford Mustang in 1964 and then became the CEO of Chrysler in the 1980s and led development of the minivan. The quote: "The discipline of writing something down is the first step toward making it happen." Write on. *** Are you planning on editing your drone footage for YT? Would love to see it. I can't believe you can get one that light!
Could you share how much money in total is needed to hike the entire router you hiked. Thank you. Best regards.
Hi! It can vary widely depending on the type of experience you want to have (for example, public albergues vs shared rooms in private albergues vs private rooms). Here's a wonderful resource that breaks it down in detail: stingynomads.com/camino-de-santiago-cost/
@@vanessa.amaral Thank you.
Hello dear, U need a professional TH-cam thumbnail designer? Let me know please?
RING IN YOUR NOSE IS TOO DISTRACTING! GOOD LUCK. BTW, WHAT'S THE BENEFIT OF NOSE RING? PRETTY? MEDICINAL USE? FOR PARTNER'S BENEFIT? DON'T REALLY CARE, JUST ASKIN' CHOSE ANOTHER VIDEO.
😂😂😂 truly can’t imagine being so offended by a piece of jewelry
My sister named her backpack “bad baby lol because it was always falling off every thing she set it in 😂😂😂
Hahahah sounds about right!!
I really liked your content and would like to offer you an interesting cooperation. However, unfortunately, I couldn't find your work email anywhere. Could you please tell me how I can contact you?
One trick I use. Since I go thru so many pages, once I’ve done a page, I turn my notebook and write across what I’ve already written. That way, I’m using less paper, and what I’ve written can’t be read by anyone - even me! That helps me ensure that I’m not self editing & that it really stays stream of consciousness. So when the notebook is completely done, I just drop it into recycling. (I do keep my planner nearby in case I get an idea of something that I need to do - I just pause & jot it down, and then go back to my morning pages notebook). And I do have a separate journal where I capture things at night that I do want to remember.
Such an interesting tip, Dee! It solves for multiple issues that were raised in this video :) thanks for sharing!
Hi Vanessa, if it is important to you can say 'In-Jin-Je'. Chris from Sydney, Australia.
In-jin-je, I think I got it ;) thanks, Chris
I will give it try 👍🏼
Wonderful! I hope it works for you :)
Спасибо, Ванесса, что поделилась своим опытом! =) See ya at the Camino!🙌
thank you for watching, and buen camino :)
So how much did the pack weigh, fully loaded up?
Hi Mary! It weighed 16lbs (~7kg) before food and water, so probably around 18lbs on my back at any point in time.
@@vanessa.amaral excellent! Thank for sharing all of this super useful information.
@@Mary-tj5qx it's my pleasure! Looking forward to share more about the Camino soon :)
Love thissss! What if you have really small handwriting?? Three small pages? 👀
tiny pages for the tiniest handwriting of tiny takata :)
Thanks for sharing Vanessa! I am from North Spain and lived in Santiago for some years, so very familiar with some of the things you talk about. I am planning to do Camino Primitivo. Very much looking forward to watching more of your videos and follow the whole adventure! I hope you enjoyed it and you keep a good memory from the experience. All best! L.
@muk9552 thanks for reaching out! When I read about your connection to northern Spain/Santiago, I couldn't help but think "how lucky 🤩" I have family in northern Spain, so I already loved it. But now after getting to know it a bit better from walking through the pueblos and being treated so warmly and kindly by locals like you, I couldn't speak any highly of it. I feel so grateful for the experience and want to share much more about it -- always careful to do it justice. Would love to hear more about the Primitivo after you do it! It will be your turn to hear "buen camino"
Wow, I write every day about things that happen to me or thoughts, but I liked the tips and how you do it. I'm going to try it!!! Thanks for sharing!!!
@shirleymatos6341 how wonderful that you already write as a habit! Isn't it the best? :) If you're ever bored with your journaling practice, definitely give morning pages a try -- and keep me posted on what you think
this was great! can’t wait to hear more about your journey!!!!
Great to hear you enjoyed it, Kim! I'll share more very soon :)
Thanks so much for the great video, Vanessa. You benefitted from other people's videos as you prepared for your first Camino and now you've added your own to help others, like me!! I'll be doing my first Camino (Portuguese) in two months and am a big researcher too, so I found you! I'm curious what your pack ended up weighing. It seems like you had a LOT in there! And I'm also sorry to hear you had such a problem with blisters. It sounds like you did all the right things: vaseline and Injinji socks. You think it was because your shoes were too large? Again, thanks for the informative and clearly communicated list and tips!
That's wonderful, Loree! I've heard amazing things about the Portuguese and would love to do it in the future. It will be so special -- I'm excited for you! My pack weighed 16lbs (~7kg) before water, with the heaviest individual items being the sleeping bag, rain poncho and Chaco sandals. And your assumption is correct, my shoes were a bit too long/wide. On the Camino my feet didn't swell and there was more friction than I would've wanted inside the shoe. I ended up wearing my Chacos when the blisters were especially bad, as the straps didn't touch them and that meant I wouldn't be in pain. Glad to hear you enjoyed what I shared! Let me know if there's anything else I can help with ahead of your Camino in the Spring.
Toe Socks can lead to more friction/heat -> blisters I think. I'm using (Falke) hiking socks. I do think they are important in combination with light hiking shoes. Those have better soles and support. Sandals are okay for a 1 or 2 hours hike - but not ideal with a heavy backpack. Definitely try out different brands to find the most comfortable - and try them on for 15 minutes. Definitely break them in before a long hike though - do a few short walks. It's best to get your body acclimated to them and the strain of hiking longer.
How about your level of pain? @@vanessa.amaral It sounds like taking Ibuprofen after a long day of walking is pretty common. Can you tell me a little more of your experience with that body ache that vloggers often talk about on the trail?
@@theresabu3000 Hi Theresa! I unfortunately got blisters on both sides of my heels, on both feet. One of them was over two inches in size 😩It wasn't a problem in training, but I didn't walk nearly the distance or frequency of the Camino before I got there. How are your socks and hiking shoes working for you? Keep me posted!
Unnecessary weight ? 😂 you have the full Mary Kay line up with you 😂😂
That’s just you 😊 good video
hahah i suspected as much! hope your camino training is going well :)
You didn’t watch my videos did you ? You poor girl 😂
I’ll give it a try what paper size do you recommend?
Julia Cameron says three single sides of A4 or 8.5x11 paper is best :) excited for you to experiment with it!
@a.amaral I started today's day making the exercise, it was very dificult to fill the first two pages, but the third one was way easier to fill.
@@Gustavo.almeida94 you got to it this morning, that's great! Thanks for coming back to share it. That third page just flows, doesn't it?
Wow all that in a 22L bag?! You must’ve packed like a Pro! So cool. I’m packing my bag as we speak
how wonderful, @AmyDeerie, I'm thrilled for you! I actually carried a Mira 32L, so not quite the feat of a 22L, but it ended up being a manageable size that didn't get too heavy. Best of luck on packing yours :)
@@vanessa.amaral ah I must’ve misheard 😄
You said getting your Hokas one size bigger was probably a mistake....would you recommend getting your actual size of just half size bigger?
Hi @patfernandes7741! Yes, for me a full size bigger meant my feet moved too much inside the shoe, and that friction didn’t help with blisters. For a next Camino, I would try shoes a half size bigger to accommodate any potential swelling but not let my feet move around too much. Hope this helps! :)
It’s not the length of your shoes, it’s the width. That’s the case for me when I went on my Camino. I did wear half a size bigger, but also in wide, I usually wear medium. I walked 90% of my Camino wearing my Keen hiking sandals.
@@miyagi1775 i can relate, my Chacos saved me!
