Ludmilla was incredibly graceful. I think Olga had sensational moves but not quite the finesse Ludmilla had. In those days artistry was still an important part of gymnastics. If difficultly requirements were met, artistry tipped the scales in favor of the gymnast with the best form. Ludmilla had that over Olga. For example, on Olga's back flip on the unevens both of her legs were bent, a definite form break. Sensational yes, but most likely there was a deduction for form. That was fair.

Did Elena Mukhina do the "dead loop" (on the uneven bars)? WOW!!

Elena was miserable and abused throughout her gymnastics career. She wanted out, and unfortunately found a way that was quite horrific. I sincerely believe, however, she was secretly relieved, despite her severe injury, to be out of that unrelenting, pressure filled and cruel world that was Soviet Union gymnastics back then.

Nadia's clips are sped up it looks like, but Elena's are not...

Elena was so insanely good, I hate the fact people only remember her for her accident.

DEJEN EN PAZ A ELENA MUKHINA Y A TODAS LAS GIMNASTAS. SOBRETODO A LAS RUSAS PUES LLEVARON ENTRENAMIENTOS MUY MUY DUROS Y CONTROVERCIALES. CADA GIMNASTA TENÍA UNA APORTACIÓN Y DESCATAMIENTO ÚNICO E IMPORTANTE EN LA GIMNASIA.

She beat Nadia and Nelli Kim at World Championships and was training for the 1980 Olympic Games when one of the national coaches, not her personal coach, pushed her to do a difficult move in which Elena was having difficulty and it resulted in a tragic accident. Elena was left paralyzed from the neck down. I will always remember her performance on the uneven bars where she did Olga Korbut’s back flip off the high bar and added a twist. She was definitely ahead of her time. R.I.P beautiful Elena. 😢
