Hi! The Albuterol inhalers in Mexico are called Salbutamol and it's the same as the Ventolin inhalers here in the US. Most are made by the same company and they actually work BETTER than the inhalers in the US. All the pharmacists know about asthma medication as it's a very popular drug to pick up in Mexico. No, you don't need a prescription and it's legal to bring them across the border, as long as you're only bringing enough for your personal use. I don't know how far you're traveling but you can usually bring up to three 3-packs across without any trouble. Most CBP agents are pretty cool but every now and again you'll come across a power hungry agent that wants to push people around and tell you that you can only bring two 3-packs. That's only happened to me once. You can bring any asthma medication across legally without a prescription. Some pharmacists will push other stuff that might NOT be legal, so it's important not to purchase narcotic type of medication like Vicodin. The pharmacy I show in this video is a respectable pharmacy so you won't have any trouble if you visit them. Lastly, the price per inhaler has gone up a bit since I've made this video and they're now running around $8 per inhaler or about $24 per 3 pack. It's still a better deal than here in the States and the medication is much more effective than the powdered medication they have here. I always use my Capital One credit card, where there's zero foreign transaction fees. Most of the major credit card companies don't charge foreign transaction fees but be sure to check with your credit card company prior to travel. Also, make sure your credit card company doesn't require you to notify them in advance if you're planning on using your card in Mexico. I've never used a debit card in Mexico so I don't know of any special requirements with debit card use. I'd call them to verify your ability to use your debit card before leaving. As far as credit card use goes, you'll get the best exchange rate with your credit card as opposed to getting cash pesos, but many of the street vendors and a FEW stores and coffee shops don't accept credit cards. While I'm not positive, I walked through with a man who was crossing back into the US for the first time with only a Global Entry. He got through without a problem but I honestly don't know for certain. I would double check with CBP in San Ysidro when you're crossing into Mexico to be certain, but it's very common to get different answers from different CBP agents.

I've never had a problem and I go several times a year. I carry my Sentri card in my hand (like a police badge) and can "flash" it if needed to clarify my position. It's never been necessary even during very crowded days. I move through the line with purpose, am very polite to the people waiting and pardon myself in Spanish when needed. Nobody has ever questioned my right to pass in front of them.

I got 3 inhalers at the pharmacy next door as the one I usually go to was closed to run inventory, which can take several hours. The second pharmacy was quite a bit more expensive which is why I included my written comment to be prepared for wild fluctuations in prices, which is common for Mexican pharmacies. I was in a hurry and didn't have time to go to one of my other pharmacies on the west side of the freeway. In the last five years that I've traveled to TJ for medications, this is the only time I've been sidetracked by a temporary closure, so arriving during an inventory time isn't common.
