You can select non-quads in Blender by selecting a quad, then up top Select, Select Similar, Polygon Sides, then Ctrl+I to select inverse which would be whatever wasn't originally selected; aka non-quads.

In Blender, you can select your cylinder, then up top go to Select followed by Checker Deselect. You need to set you offset to -1. Thanks for all the great vids you've made over the year BTW!
