Ordering from a list provided by the vendor (Tekla EPM Purchasing)
Is there a way to link a project that was initially set up in Trimble Connect to Tekla EPM, or does the process need to start with Tekla EPM?
Yes. Go to the Project Managment job and hit the link button for Trimble Connect. Hit Sync Projects at the bottom of the window...this should then make sure all Trimble Connect Projects show in the window. Select the correct Trimble Connect project and then click "Link Project."
Thank you for making these videos. My company is in the process of interating with Powerfab and these videos are most helpful.
Why doesnt it add the clip material?
Please note that version 2024 now has a better way of doing this. On the load, you have the ability to send the pieces to a purchase order. I'm leaving this video up as parts of this video can be used for other purposes. Let me know if you have any questions.
When I go to production Schedule , no jobs come up, just the task of fabrication and the 200 hr capacity???? Why are my jobs not listed like yours on demo?
What about if you accidentally delete all the material in an estimating job but not the job itself? I just got moving too fast and thought I deleted out a requisition but mistakenly emptied an estimate job of 1.5 million pounds of material. I can't figure out how to recover it and not getting response from technical support
Yeah, there is no undo button!! Only chance you have is to restore from a backup. You could do this by creating a second database where you restore a backup. Then you could export that estimate from the backup database and reimport to the live database.
Question... Does this process need to be done per job? Or can it be set as a default in the properties, so it applies to all jobs moving forward? Thanks!
Yeah and it’s not Tekla Structures being wrong in exporting the quantity in the xml either. It’s an issue with how bolts are tracked as objects belonging to an assembly in PowerFab.
Nice!!!
Hey Ricky. In this example, the cut part is going to to Inventory History as waste. But it keeps it's job #, instead of getting a job # "WASTE" like the drops from the cut lists. Would this be a regular use case? You won't be able to use the beam again in the system unless you make a new PO# for this item to be received to inventory. Probably with a lower unit price as it's the waste already accounted for in another project. Cheers. Igor Guerra
👌
Won't the pieces placed on the PO end up in inventory as purchased items? How do you avoid that
Yeah, I didn't follow all the way through on recommendations for that. You would want to receive and finalize on receiving in order to push it directly to inventory history instead of it landing in inventory.
Is it possible to create a template for the SOV's? Similar to a project schedule template.
Unfortunately, this is not possible. I would love to see that feature though!
This has since changed
Yes it has unfortunately! Here's a link to Tekla's solution now though it is a bit complicated and touchy: support.tekla.com/article/create-named-entity-email-accounts-for-trimble-identity-login-for-shop-users
Is this something that is only automatically uploaded if the detailer is using Tekla Structures?
My understanding is that SDS does not have automatic exporting yet. However, an export of an IFC can be done and dumped into a folder. You could then utilize a tool called Trimble Connect Sync to automatically upload anything in that folder up to Trimble Connect. But yes, Tekla Structures guys have ways to upload to Trimble Connect more automatically.
What do we do if a revision comes in after the material has been Taken from Stock and Cut?
See this video: th-cam.com/video/Z3rVlYbXe7Q/w-d-xo.html
Awesome
Extremely helpful!!!!
I have been trying to do this, however when i go to import it keeps telling me i have an invalid job number
Did you setup the production control job again before importing? If so, perhaps it is saying the job already exists. Or is it an old project and you change something with the Job # Expression in Company Standards?? Not sure...I'd have to see your system and file in order to be able to say for sure what is going on.
@@fabricationinformationsyst6835 now it is not letting me create any jobs in production control. Only in project management.
Ricky, if the XML import rejects the changes due to TFS status: does the drawing update and revision status update? Or does it reject all updates from the import for that TFS assembly ? Would it make sense to simply re-import the XML after doing the reverse TFS process?
I'd have to test to be sure, but I'm pretty sure it does actually bring in that drawing in spite of the TFS. But yes, you could just reimport after reversing the TFS.
I got this to work by taking out warehouse force inventory from optimizations as it appears to force inventory BEFORE it will split
Ricky, is there a way for EPM to auto “Update Status” at a set time or a scheduled interval?
Not to my knowledge.
Thanks Ricky! Your videos have been really helpful to me to fully understand the capabilities of Tekla. Do you plan on doing any videos covering EPM Go? My company is trying to make the switch from paper prints to tablets. Any advice?
This is one area where I suggest you just pull the plug cold turkey. In other words, don't do drawings for a while and tablets...it's so much tougher to make the switch by leaving paper out there. Also, move away from multi sheets if you still have them. it is so much easier with the tablets.
What if you were trying to Bulk cut sizes on this Cust list from multiple jobs?
Not sure if this answers your question or not, but you can go to inventory and select multiple items, select the "TFS" button, and all bars will be removed from inventory and all projects updated.
@@fabricationinformationsyst6835 Hello, Not quite, The issue I am having is this: I am multing or optimizing for my cutlist and producing a cutlist for multiple jobs, However there is no setting to optimize for bulk cutting or cutting all of the like size materials first, I know this is a less optimal way to cut material but it can be worth it on the labor side. Are there any work arounds for this?
@@shaynegonzales2861 You are correct, there is no method for multing or planning for bundle cutting. The only way you could do this is to pick just the pieces you want to cut in a bundle and then mult those by themselves so they go on like bars. If you're only going to do that on a limited number of pieces it wouldn't be too bad, but could be pretty tedious if you were doing it a lot.
@@fabricationinformationsyst6835 Thank you, I think this was the conclusion I had come to as well but had hoped for a better solution. Thank you for your time responding.
One of the issues I continually run in to is that the IFC model parts do not link to EPM. This is due to some of my detailers only send KSS files instead of XML and EPM does not have the appropriate GUID data. The fix is the read GUID tool. Production Control/Modify Data/IFC/Read Guid's and then select the linked IFC file. Hopefully this helps a few people as I spend a few hours finding the solution.
Great point! Only caution there is that it sometimes doesn't work. I'm at a client's today where we did this on a project where they imported via kiss file. Some of the members connected and some did not. I've seen this happen quite a bit. The kiss file is unreliable as far as whether it will connect or not. This probably depends more on the detailer and their model than anything.
What happens when epm does not alert you with uncombined dialog?
If the production control items are combined and change then it will notify you. If it doesn't then they either aren't combined or the detailer has designated them as a new piece without deleting the old pieces.
Well done Ricky! You do a great job of explaining how to set these up correctly from the very start, which is critical to effective use. He's right, y'all...watch these videos (perhaps even a few times) ALL THE WAY THROUGH.
Thanks Charlie! the next installment should be coming next week. I took a couple weeks off for my son's wedding but should be back at it next week. I've gotten some great feedback from these videos so I'm thrilled to hear everyone is getting some benefit out of these!
is it possible to have the taxes show up and customize the report to be able to use it as official invoice to send to clients?
Taxes are not built in to the contract/invoicing. You would have to make it a separate line item on the schedule of values if you wanted to break it out.
Ricky, is there a way to update production status based on items “returned” from 3rd party paint or galvanizers? I’m not seeing it.. but I think it needs to be. I need both the option to send away trucks to those places and then track returned and completed items
If you have shipping routes setup for 3rd party paint or galvanizers, then it will show in Production Status shipping area. Do you have these setup?
Thanks Ricky. Been hoping to increase use of this feature this year.
Hope this helps!
Also I have nothing set in my project breakdown lists. I do not know if it is because I broke out my schedule to only be tasks. Currently my "schedule taks" list has my full schedule but nothing in my "project breakdown"
The sequences/lots (depending on settings) would be in the project breakdown list. However, the breakdown items are dependent on settings and could be category, subcategory, pay category, sequence, or lot...and the order can be changed as well. Assuming you are wanting sequence as the breakdown, you would want it in breakdown items so the schedule will pull the necessary information over from production control (e.g. weight, pieces, % complete by sequence). If you have it in the tasks, it will not separate the info by sequence. I'm currently working on a series of videos on the schedule. It will be released on LinkedIn and here on my TH-cam channel every Wednesday for the next couple of months. I'll dig into much of this in the videos.
Do you need to update the Gaant chart displays depending on how your company gets hours on excel? For example if I am using a Task name instead of sequence will the software be able to find the name and apply hours to it or do you think it would be better to have everything sequenced? Please let me know.
The hours can be applied to either a task or a breakdown item (sequence/lot/etc.). Let's say that the task is "Fabrication" and there are multiple sequences. You could bring in hours for Fabrication without a sequence and it would apply it only to Fabrication (the sequences would have 0). But if you apply them to the sequences then the total will sum up into the Fabrication task.
Will you also have to pay to have your detailers use your Tekla EPM or with their license they should be able to get signed in?
The detailer should not need access to Tekla EPM. You set the Trimble Connect project up in EPM and then invite the detailer. Then they only need access to Trimble Connect.
Do the detailers have to have a tekla license to use the epm software and make changes. Will most detailers be able to know how to use this software once they are invited to it?
If the detailer is using Tekla Structures, then they have a license of Trimble Connect. If they are not using Tekla Structures, then they would need a license. However, the licenses are very inexpensive. Not sure I can say whether detailers will know how to use Trimble Connect but it is pretty simple to upload the IFC. Tekla Structures detailers also have ways of updating the IFC on Trimble Connect automatically.
WHAT ABOUT WHEN IN IT INVALIDATES THIS PIECE NOW? IS IT NOT GOING TO DO THAT?
This will not prevent a piece from being invalidated if something on the bar changed.
how do i do it for entire job, not based on page number?
