If you are painting it then in theory there is no difference so just go with whatever is cheapest / easiest. If you have a period home then you should use pine as putting MDF in a period property should be a prime punishable by death.

Cut the boards first push up to wall make sure to they fit perfectly then paint the walls when putting caulk on never use your finger it leaves indentations in it, it smudges and you have bacteria in your fingers which is why especially in the bathroom it leads to mould best use a silicone block nice neat finish also i think painting by boards first is best to avoid paint on floor

Thanks. If using an oil gloss is it best to remove the masking tape and let the first coat dry then mask again before the second coat or just leave it on? I’m concerned if left on when the paint is dry removing the tape may also peel the paint? Cheers.

its all matter of the stage or purpose of doing the skirting. As for example first time in a new house. Since there might be multiple colours in different rooms or even in the same room on walls. skirting will be always the same, for example, grey, as white is the easiest. Then I would think of painting the walls first and coming with the painted skirting to install as you will have fewer areas to caulk than to paint skirting all the way and take care of not messing the wall or the floors.

What a shite video doesn't show the coping cut actually being done and keeps showing an external corner as an example when it's explaining internal corners lol

The only possible reason highlighted here why I might paint after fitting skirting is the caulking (as you might need to paint it anyway. All of the other reaons are not really reasons for me.

I have always liked plinth blocks , and only just discovered what They are called. I like watching old cowboy films because the wooden trim in the houses & saloons was something else.

Seems the video is missing key pieces of info. "How to Fit Plinth Blocks and Rosettes" should include placement and measurement details. How to drill and nail the plinth should be titled, "How to Drill and Nail Plinth and Rosettes". Where is the explanation regarding the marking and placement?

Paint the wall first, obviously measure and cut the skirts but don’t stick them up just yet, paint first then stick them up

Hi, this is a great and informative video. I am looking to paint my skirting and doors using satin white paint, but I am looking for a recommendation. You mentioned a plastic or enamel finish.
