I just bought a TL2 and am waiting for my shield to put on it. Can't wait to start using it. We are issued Euro helmets and I am looking forward to feeling like a normal firefighter with a normal helmet... lol.
Yeah I remember seeing a vid with that gizmo they used to do the sizing with. To bad they still don't do that. Almost worth getting hired in the FDNY alone. Lol Rumor has it, leathers are coming back for the FDNY for those that wish to have a leather. Dept will pay half the cost and the wearer will pay the other half. However that just a rumor.
@@darrenphillips1652 Imagine the cost! For FDNY that is. I had a leather in '78. Thought it made me 😎 cool. Did it help me perform the tasks at hand any better? No.
@@owensweetland342 I mean for sure it could have helped you perform better. Modern helmets are not getting lighter overall, my neck is screwed up with extended wearing. A well made leather is very lightweight and can indeed help with performance in the long run. Does it suddenly make you better at your job? No. Better protection? Unknown.
@@darrenphillips1652 yeah things are getting a little too crazy for the next generation of applicants, housing options are becoming impossible and interior depts are noticing more applicants with job experience!
Juan and Mary Torres i bought from a friend of mine. He is on the Volunteer side so his house provided him with a helmet... so he decided to sell me his... which is now mine hehe
I absolutely love my Phenix!!! Great helmet, so comfortable to wear and light. I'm on my second one now that I became a lieutenant. Best helmet hands down. #FFD
It's pronounced the same as the bird Phoenix/phenix lol... drove me crazy... had one when the tl2 first came out and loved it .. got it as a graduation gift when I completed interior firefighting school.. unfortunately two years after I got it someone stole it ... haven't been able to afford a Leather so I use a Ben 2 by morning pride ... not my favorite but I own it so I can't complain.. better then a company issued one lol
Yeah our department issued one is a Cairns 1044. If you want a leather you buy it yourself. HOWEVER I got lucky. I traded a Federal Q2b I had restored for a brand new one from a guy in Baltimore. He wanted the siren so bad that he actually went out and bought one brand new and sent it to me via overnight FedEx. A deal I couldn't pass up. The siren now resides on one of their rescues. Oh. I pronounce it helmet. Lol
ydnar slohcin, no offence taken. I’ve fought plenty in my 28 years with my dept. Like I said in the video, I PREFER a shorter ear and neck flap. Personal choice. I find that I still get enough protection with the hood, the shorter ear/neck flap and done up collar combo. Again, personal choice.
Big_TIme_Buzz No sir. Although you can get them with the band of your choice, this one came with the standard one. Next time I'll go with a Boston bend.
Seems like the way to go! For a while I wanted a cairns n6a, but dang they are expensive! The tl2 seems to have a good quality to price ratio. Thanks for the review! 👍

FDNY had leather helmets professionally sized to the wearer's head. No strap, no ratchet. They were "snug as a bug".

I just switched from N6a to the TL2 , love it! Lighter better ballenced I put on NFPA complaint flip down eye shields .
I like my N5A because tradition is everything my grandfather has one my father has one and so do I

It came with the standard bend on it but I changed it to a Boston flat bend a couple months after getting it.
The good thing with my state is we are OSHA not NFPA

@@darrenphillips1652 that q is worth a pretty penny itself..especially older ones. They had a whole different sound then the newer ones
no offense brother, but do u fight much fire? the extra neck protection is the way to go with a carbon nomex hood.

Is there not a shorter neck flap? I also prefer the shorter neck and ear flap. And i also have fought plenty of fire
That shield holder did it come with the helmet or did you swap it out I’ve seen a different style eagle on some of the other TL-2s

Mark Spencer. I believe it came from Ganate State Fire Helmets. Not 100% sure as it was a gift.
