    This is not the way as a ref to handle parents. Best to ignore. If they get involved further and physically then call the games. It makes no sense to react to comments of how bad you are officiating, plus a quarter of the times the criticism is right. If it were not all these refs at grassroots would be at the world cup.

    Mouthy parents, mostly with no idea of the rules of the game, are the bane of house league soccer. Kudos to the referee for letting the coaches know ,early on, that he will brook no nonsense !

    one of the reasons that we put the team and the parents together, with teams on opposite sides of the field. it's obvious who the culprits are and easy to chastise/warning and then ask to leave if warranted.

    I’ve been involved in football (oh for you guys “soccer”) for over 30 years as Administrator, player, coach & referee. Here in Australia we have rules for Home clubs that they must supply a “Ground Officials (or Marshall)” at all games. They are responsible for crowd control / safety. If a referee feels like themselves or any player or officials safety is at risk they can stop the game & call on the ground officials to deal with the parents or supporters who are causing trouble & can move them from the ground.

    What I recommend for any soccer parent out there is to talk to their kids, 1 on 1, asking for an honest description of how they perceive the parents during a match. I went through this with my son and it was VERY humbling. If you think those kids even think one bit that your "cheering" is helpful in ANY regard you're far off. Most kids would actually prefer no parents at all or at least just as quiet spectators (think Tennis, when the quiet signal goes on). Most parents are totally projecting some kind of "this needs some football stadium atmosphere" bullshit into a kids game that couldn't be further from it.

    And people wonder why refs are giving up in large numbers. Some years ago, a player made a threat to cut my throat and then followed me home after the match. All because I sent him off after grabbing an opposition player around the neck and threatening to kill him. I had to keep driving for nearly an hour until he gave up. Not even the cops would help me. I still ref, but it's always in the back of my mind.

  • @dannyc6166
    @dannyc6166 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I would have done the same thing. These players are young girls. The last thing they need is to hear parents swearing & making derogatory remarks about the Ref or other players. Refs volunteer their time for very little $$$ or nothing at all so your children can play sports. They shouldn’t have to take verbal abuse & the coach should take complete responsibility for parents of players who’s parents need a lesson in sportsmanship & acceptable behavior not to mention appreciation for the people who work so your child can play a sport.

    Good coaches - don’t need to yell at the ref. Bad coaches try to mask their inadequacies by directing their poor team prep at the ref. Red coach - is an example of that.

    No wonder there is a referee shortage in all youth sports, its not worth the risk and the abuse from the parents, There are cases of parents actually physically assaulting refs. I wouldn't be a ref in a youth league for any amount of money.

    • @accobra4272
      @accobra4272 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely. You don't yell at coaches players parents. You have a whistle and authority of the game. You handle everything with composure good language and be calm to everything you say. Yelling and saying to "shut up" it's not professional and it makes you look bad. Having said that the parents are the worst enemy of their own kids in youth sports as i take it this is probably in USA.

    The UNITED coach is part of the problem. Instead of walking over and addressing the parents, he half-asses his way about 5 steps. That tells everyone he does not support the ref. And considering this is AMATEUR soccer, without the ref, the game is over. And the parents, just STFU already.

      @@dmb_13k . thanks mike. i had to ask , as in europe , the vast majority of games are played on public pitches. any school games would be played within the school grounds, during school hours , and parents would not be there. possibly because they are not allowed ' in ' to the school grounds , but probably because the game would be played as a normal class, if that makes sense? after lunch , history, geography and football :) so parents wouldnt turn up until after the game is over. so to even see parents at a school game is a bit weird for me. if the game was played on a public pitch ( usually on a sunday morning ) the ref couldnt do anything if spectators were shouting , unless it was threats. thanks for replying though mike :)
