Can't believe how impressively this has turned out ! Here in the UK the price of really small ,basic presses for block print/ lino is incredibly expensive I was just looking ( as usual lol) on Amazon UK at Esdee lino print stuff & found one couldn't r these lamination machines in the listings & wondered IF??🤔 it could be used as a press...looks like you've done it rather well! A huge thank you ..going to save my pennies for a cold laminator now & get printing! All the very best to you for a happy & creative 2023 😃x
I am glad you find my video helpful. I bought this cold laminator on Facebook Market Place, just 50 Canadian dollars for this used machine.
How did you make your turn wheel? Would love to get one for my laminator or have my husband help me make one …thank you for this video :)
I'm sorry for not getting back to you sooner. This wheel in the video was not very comfortable to use, so I rebuilt another one. Very simple. I used a longer piece of wood for the rotating arm with some Homedepot metal hardware and screws clamped on the original wheel.
Question, what material is the roller of the laminator made out of?
WoW, I have so many questions, how does it work, does it print well on thick paper, have you had to make any adaptations?
For small prints, it works well. I haven't tried any paper thicker than BFK and Stonehenge, but I thing it will be no problem. The only thing I have added to the press was a wooden handle that is for easier spinning.
@@KaiL806 Thank you very much for the information. Keep making those wonderful engravings ;)
@@KaiL806 Hey Kai, like your work. I just bought laminator and would be very interested to see how you adapted the wooden handle to the press.
Hi! I tried to buy this today, (the spot has a lot of memories for us)- it's beautiful! I was too slow on the SAS. Should have logged in earlier! Congratulations ! I hope to see more of your work.
Thank you so much. I am sorry I should keep this piece for you. I hope someday go to the Fraser River Park again and paint another piece for you.
@@KaiL806 That's very sweet; just happy that your art is being appreciated. Take care!

How do you like printing on this cold press laminator? Are there any tricks or modifications you've found useful?
This laminator I am using is old and the top roller is not perfectly flat, so it only can handle small prints. If large, you'll see uneven pressure. I didn't do much change on this machine. Only made a wooden helm wheel to make it easier to rotate.
@@KaiL806 thank you!!
As much as printmaking drove me nuts, this was very cool. Thanks!
😁😆
Do you find water mixable oil paints much different in actual process? (Enjoyed your painting, by the way)
Thanks, John. I find there are no differences with traditional oil paints. For me, it is very easy to clean. I only use water to clean my brushes, but when I paint I use water-mixable linseed oil and mediums. I would recommend artists to try it.
Nice painting
very very nice painting.
These are a delight, Kai. I watch them immediately, and they are inspirational. I hope to do something similar one of these days, but it will be a while. Thank you!
Very well done. I love the muted palette you have going here; it has a really unique look and feel to it. Great, rich textures; as you would expect from a good Oil piece. This is great 👌👍 -Best of luck on your art and your channel, and much support from one artist to another. Liked and subbed.
Thanks, Larry. I am trying not to focus on too much detail and give more weight to the composition and the colour balance. Yes, I subbed yours too. Your channel is amazing! Love it!
I find it fascinating how much you paint and then re-paint the same areas. The decision making process is interesting. I am also interested in why you typically start with a blue underpainting. Why blue? Keep these coming, please!
Thanks, Jeff. For the blue, I think it is more like a quick sketch, not quite underpainting yet. I normally use ultramarine blue or burnt umber to create this quick draft to make the composition. It depends, if it is a outdoor scene, I prefer blue. I find that these two colours are not too bright, but they won't be quickly covered by other stuff.
@@KaiL806 Thanks! Very interesting. My own painting skills are so poor... I have so much to learn if I want to really do it right. *sigh*
