This was truly a "hands-on" learning experience where the process was comepletely analog. Automotive grade wool is going to work best anywhere and everywhere and a diesel heater. Well maybe not the Diesel heater it might create moisture, but its fine to use diesel heater under your bed just put a bucket of (Camp Dry). I've camped on the coast of Maine during the winter and you have to remember a mist rain shower of moisture is constantly happening inside your walls (dew). Make sure a drain plug for your walls stays clear to drain. Use electric blankets above and underneath you.

    • @JayandDreOffGrid
      @JayandDreOffGrid 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for the suggestions! We’ve heard great things about diesel heaters, but they do produce moisture just like the propane furnace. Unfortunately, electric blankets are not a viable option when living off grid, unless you have the battery storage to support that energy consumption. Wood heat will always be the best option. Not the cleanest or most fun at times, but definitely the most effective. 🍻 Thank you for watching!

    In my humble opinion, a good life is not a choice of having money, or living the life you find most enjoyable. The really good life is a compromise, where you work to get enough money and get some part of the life you find most enjoyable.

      Thank you! It was quite the experience with many struggles that I didn’t film. I should have talked more about how we panted our seeds at the end of April, and we endured cold temps and rain all through May, June, and then finally got them in the ground in July. We had to baby the seeds to keep them alive. Bringing in and out of the trailer, putting them next to the wood stove to keep warm. It was a miracle they even survived to be planted! Thank you for your kind words and for watching our video! 🙏🏼 Gardening is therapy and should be prescribed as a requirement for anyone struggling with depression or anxiety. 🌱 #Godisgood

      Thank you so much for tuning in and leaving a comment! Good old siphoning is a great technique that many over look. Just gotta get creative with what you have on hand! Building a pond that can irrigate your garden would be amazing! I’ve looked into a aquaponic system that creates a synergy between your fish fertilizer and the oxygen that plants need! Scaling up on the system with a pond would create some amazing results! Cheers to warmer weather and big harvests! 🍻😎🌾

    But.... Do the solids actually break down into compost or do you just use the bucket until it fills up and then have to throw away a bag full of unbroken down poo and shavings?

    • @JayandDreOffGrid
      @JayandDreOffGrid 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, and Yes. Producing safe "humanure" is a whole other topic within itself, and you can find videos that dive into that information more thouroughly. If done properly, it could yield some very healthy compost for future use. We have recently learned about the BioGas system, which is pretty badass! Worth looking into if you're serious about being self reliant. Thank you for watching and leaving a comment Robin!

    Oh the dripping water on the windows lol. I am living with this at the moment, but am about to install my Tiny Wood Stove so I am hoping the moisture gets absorbed by this wood stove. Did you all experience less moisture post install?? I hope so! :)

    • @JayandDreOffGrid
      @JayandDreOffGrid 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hahaha that dang condensation! Installing a stove is a must! It definitely helps dry everything out. Jason also installed a mini 12V fan under the bed this year. There are places in the trailer that the dry air can't reach, so it's important to keep air flow. Sealing any raw plywood in our trailer has also been a game changer for us. That's where things got funky before lol. We still have to wipe down our windows a little after we remove the insulation every morning 🙃

    • @GottaLoveGoats
      @GottaLoveGoats 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@JayandDreOffGrid Oooo the fan in those tough to reach areas is a great idea! I will have to ponder where I should do that 🤔. I am happy to hear that the wood stove reduced the moisture issue. I can't believe how soggy we peoples are!!

      Thank you for sticking around during our absence Alexandre! And YES! This was quite the "fire rodeo" as you put it, haha! In our panicked attempt to extinguish the fire, Andrea asked me if we should turn the camera on, and I yelled NO! In the moment, it truly felt like an emergency and filming it would have been pretty silly. Looking back, it would have been cool to document the chaos, but I think it would have been a mistake to focus on filming when the exterior Airstream panels were beginning to warp from the heat. Luckily the aluminum body was fine after cooling off, but the rubber and plastic pieces didn't stand a chance! We got some exciting news to announce in the next video, which might help our followers understand why we have had a gap in posting videos!
