Hey man, thanks for the video. Helps a lot to make a buying decision. What is that thing you use for monitor stand?
@@belgradeboy1977 that's a great question. It's the packing foam that the monitors got shipped with 😅 lol. I have soft auralex foam separating the monitors and the foam. Cost about free fiddy.
@@riotcitystudios1985 Ha! 2 in 1 from Neumann :)
One of the most interesting vst reverb comparison i've seen so far, with 6 of the best reverb plugins (imho). I'm surprised to see only a few comments/views here ! I've already tried RAUM, Valhalla, 7th heaven. I've already heard/seen good reviews on Fab filter & Verbsuite, no idea on Sunset Sound which i've never seen before. I love 7th heaven, but Verbsuite sounds also very good to me. By the way, what's your favorite ?
@@Only4YGuitars thanks! I enjoy making these videos and always learn a lot myself! And nice comments like this really help push me to do more, so thanks again 🙏
Also, I forgot to answer your question! I will say that I bought the full version of Sunset Sound after doing this video. I record in a home setup, so realistic "room" reverbs are crucial to my sound. Sunset Sound filled this role perfectly for me. 7th Heaven was probably my second favorite.
@@riotcitystudios1985 I'll make a try of Sunset Sound.
what a shocker the API is punchier
Love the content, keep it coming <3 subscribed!!
@@Rhuggins much appreciated! I've been enjoying making these videos. Thank you!
I have this preamp and don't use it enough but I think you've changed that. Well done, especially the section about half way through! Woosh!
Nice❤
Interesting comparison. I like hearing the individual drums then the kit then the isolated drum on the kit. 57 is just a good mic. I feel like I have heard that sound on thousands of recordings and it is what I expect to hear on a miced kit. The 609 was surprising, the tone was nice but what I thought it really brought out above the others was the attack or the stick sound. The 421 to me sounded the most full and round. It made the Tom’s sound big. The beta was interesting. To my ears it was approaching the clarity of the condensers but still kept more of the sound rejection of the other dynamics. Both the condensers I thought were similar. They had the most clarity and for lack of a better word the most “realistic” sound. I felt like I was really hearing the complete sound but they also had the most bleed. So, that makes me believe that they are bringing in some room sound too which is why it feels or sounds more “real”. All in all you could use any of these mics to get a nice great recording. Probably one of the dynamics if you are recording in an untreated room and then choose whether you want more attack (609) more umph (421) more clarity (Beta) or just a relatively flat even sound (57). If you are in a good room. Just choose based on the project.
@@jasonmills6041 I agree with a lot of what you are saying here. There is definitely a balance to find between how good and bright a sound you want vs how much bleed you can handle, and it varies by project, genre, drummer, and room for sure! Really cool, thanks for commenting 👍
This was Great! I feel like Shure 57 or E 609 for racktom.. but for floor tom E 609 is the best
that's some killer playing, man! awesome job!
I got an UC1 and UF1 a coiuple days ago. I've always loved the ssl e channel since the ole pirate bay days and ended up being the only software plugin channel i've ever bought. I was afraid they weren't going to work on elcapitan. But ssl download manager, 360, 360link all work fine on 10.15.17. my mixes are already 100 better. I can't believe that i just plugged it in and it worked. Very easy setup. and 360 link worked with the eChannel i already had. Totally awesome.
Good video ---- Now you need the UF1 and UF8.
Man that snare is snapping! And that kick drum hits hard! Love it
Your chops are insane!! I feel this unit shines when using the blend knob set to 12 O'clock.
I like the 50/50 mix as well! I always feel I should use "1 or the other" but find that they designed the continuously variable blend for a reason 👍
Thanks for sharing! Mixing with knobs is so much more fun. Awesome sounding jam. I have the uf8 and uf1. Looking forward to getting the uc1!
Thanks! I'd like to get those other units as well, but enjoying the UC1 for now!

I've been using my 4-710D on recording my guitars and it sounds really good. I get that nice creamy mid range guitar tone, just great for the music I do.
That's awesome, do you prefer the tube setting or solid state for guitars?
@@riotcitystudios1985 I like the tube setting but I have it at 2o'clock. So I don't have it too crazy with the tube, just enough to get that warm/creamy tone.
This is so dang awesome lol sounds really good! very interesting sounds.
So glad you liked it! I truly stopped using drum triggering so much more when I started using this technique
Very cool. I actually dig when you utilize subwoofer
So after putting the video together I actually ended up liking how the subwoofer sounded a lot more than I initially did! I liked it further back in the room as well after hearing it more.
That's creative!👍
Thanks! Definitely different :)
Is there any limiter/maximizer on it?
Nope, there was no other processing being done at all. Thanks for the question, I should have clarified that in the description 👍
Okay, thank you. Volume level is pretty high for raw files. I presume that drummer was pretty delicate with the attack? @@bebopstudioswv
great sounds and great drumming
Thank you! 🙏
VERY cool comparison man! Thank you for that. My personal go-to on vocals is 7th heaven (+ extra tape saturation) - it just gives me that unobtrusive reverb that sits well in the mix without washing the vocal away. For instruments I go with Pro-R as it is faster to adjust and find what I want.
Great test. interesting to read the different opinions. Having vintage MD421 on my toms in my studio, I tried shure beta98, sm75, DPA 4099 and c214 before. All are good for toms. Here I really like the MD421, AKG214 (neutral en definition) and the Blue Dragonfly.
Thanks for sharing! I especially love the condensors on this as well.
Adding some thoughts after further use: Sunset Sound: Annoyingly difficult demo version to install and use, but it kept growing on me enough for me to buy the full version. For my purpose of making a home-based studio sound huge - I have to say this plugin pulls this off very well. It makes sense given that it's a convolution reverb based on those LA studio rooms. I have especially enjoyed the incredible stereo effect each preset seems to have built in - so my mono room mics sound natural, big, and impressively stereo! Verbsuite Classic: This was my favorite while making the video, however it costs around $250 as of now and... requires the newer ilok physical dongle which I don't currently have. So for now, I am holding off on the full version. However, the demo version was super easy to use. I will probably buy this one day. Pro R: I already own the full version and love this plugin. It's simple, sleek, and sounds beautiful on all sources. The presets are well thought out, and the stereo widening is very decent. Raum: Even though I owned already, it wasn't really on my radar. This has been a pleasant surprise for me though. I particularly like this on vocals and effect sounds. But you may have noticed in the video - the presets are set up for an "insert" rather than a "send" (*facepalm*) so the wet/dry mix was at half for these presets. Oops. Seventh Heaven: I really liked this during the making of the video, especially on drums, but it never really stuck out to me in any special way. It's a wonderful reverb, but I'm not sure it's needed in my arsenal right now. Hopefully in the future. Valhalla: This is a popular plugin, and I ended up buying the full version at only $50. I have mixed feelings about it at times. It's definitely not that natural room sound that Sunset Sound is, but it's not meant to be I don't think. It complements my other reverbs well, and was affordable. I was disappointed to see that - at least the presets I played with recently - seemed to be in mono. Still is cool reverb for vocals and effects and I especially like it for it's 'larger space' sounds. -Tommy
Great video, Really like the seventh Heaven. What daw is this though?
I really enjoyed seventh heaven too! This is Cubase 10
no discernable difference.
Great comparison, and I’m glad that you soloed the microphones as well, because I was interested to see what kind of bleed each one would have.
Great video! Had a few different mics I've been looking at getting so it was nice to hear them side by side to get a better idea. Big help man. Much appreciated.
00:01 00:16
Do you recommend the el8 or X?
sweeeeet brother!
Nice!! Wich preamps did you use for rec the drums? Thxs for the video!
Whoever likes api owns api, whoever like neve owns neve
Api strong transient
Great video! love the left hand....this UA looks very attractive! have the warm audio 73 mic pre's with eq they sound good too using it on drums, but UA 4-710 is getting to me. hmm
I love all of the people who are citing incredible differences between these two channels. Can we just be honest that there is sparsely a difference? Perhaps, if the silk was engaged and turned up, we may have heard more of a difference, but this comparison reveals just how subtle any differences are between two great sounding channels. Very little magic is ever in the channel once using a quality tool; the magic is in us and in how we use our tools. And being convinced otherwise turns us into tools.
thanks for this!
The mic guard on the guitar mic (isolation), did you make that yourself or buy?
Its actually just one of those square auralex foam pieces I stuck to a mic stand 😁
Are you using a sm57 as a kick mic?
Audix D6 on kick, 57 on snare, KM-184s on OHs
Thanks for doing this. I have an ADAT HD24XR and love tubes, so this thing is looking quite attractive. Drummers ARE useful members of society!
56a still the most realistic mic.
Tube=better good
sync issues.
Great!!!!!
Awesome playing & a great demo. I love this preamp!!!
Nice performance!
awesome video! how do the UA preamps compare to your API or RND pres sir? The UA seems very versatile just wondering if they "compete" with the API or RND. I already own a few Manley pres for my drums and vocals and they are AWESOME but the 4-710 D still catches my attention for some reason lol
The UA certainly holds its own! I prefer it when I want to add a little grit like with DI bass or possibly vocals, but for the clean uncolored tones I might prefer the RND. I do prefer the API on drums usually
Super helpful comparison, thank you!
Thanks!
Lovely, keep it up!! If I was you I would employ Promo'SM!!
Awesome, thanks! :)
