The difference between first game in the series and this one is like night and day, massive improvement over a bunch of aspects
It's the first game in the series, where you can swap between 3 weapons, not too useful, but is fun. Platforming, although thankfully nearly non-existent, is still dogshit. The overall quality and fun factor of all bosses has improved a ton though, they were all decently fun to play, with the Gustav of course being the best one. Also, I would love to know why his full name is "Gustav Counterfeit", is this because he was killed in the first game and then resurrected in this one? Anyways, despite the improved quality, it's funny that, in my opinion, Robok from the first game is still much better of a boss that any of these

That was a description for the regular game, the Crazy mode comes in a separate executable file and is different from the regular game
For starters, in Crazy mode you play as a fucking Gustav with a shrinked sprite, corresponding to it larger than a normal Kid hitbox and a different set of weapons, which plays a lot better than in the regular game since you have a laser that replaces your shotgun, deals a lot more damage than said shotgun, but you are propelled upwards when firing, which of course can lead to deaths. This way you actually have a risk vs reward situation choice instead of holding fire button the entire time. Platforming in this mode is completely abscent and bosses are buffed both in behaviours and in the fact that you have larger than normal hitbox. Honestly, their buffs are very minor and none of the bosses differ too much from their regular counterparts, except Rakhris and Gustav, in this mode they play completely differently and are very, very good
After a first shield break, Rakhris not only spawns transparent copies of himself that do random attacks, like in a regular game, but also becomes transparent himself, so that you are basically forced to take as much information as you can to not lose him from your focus. This plays insanely good since you are always on the move of trying to deduce the true Rakhris and forces you to constantly think about possible following attacks. In my opinion, this is what the base boss should have been in the first place
As for Gustav, man, this fight is exceedingly epic. And no, not the usual fight that was lazily buffed here and there, I'm talking about the thing that comes after it - a fucking True Last Boss that's only available in the Crazy mode. I was very astonished since I knew that there's some extra content in this mode, but I didn't expect this thing to appear. The atmosphere is absolutely top notch - music, background, lightning strikes, dialogues, moving parts of the serpent's body, him trying to look at you at all times, all these things honestly add so much to the fight it's actually insane. And of course the fight itself is very good too, a bunch of different attacks that look cool, and on top of that, creator of this game remembered that he has a somewhat unused mechanic of launching yourself upwards with a laser and decided to use it here to its fullest. Very memorable experience. Needless to say that this is the best boss in the whole game. The only downside I can think of is the fact that you are fighting Gustav while playing as a Gustav (???), this looks kinda goofy all things considered
Overall the regular game is just decent, but the described above parts of the Crazy mode are extremely well made
