Turtles are not easily shaken from their goals. If we toss food into our Painted Turtles tank, she ignores it's trajectory, instead keeping a sharp gaze on our fingers.

I have a 1 yr. old boxy and her shell is the same, as far as "collapsed" in her backside. She can retract herself well enough though.

Suggestion: Wear crocs every time you go out there. Works for me anyways cause the rubber they use for crocs is very strong so that they can't penetrate unlike other materials such as the fabric on tenis shoes. Also crocs are have a very large toe area so it'd be harder for them to latch on

I have a trick that'll make them stop. If you flip it upside down for a bit and leave it there with your feet in sight, when you flip it over again it won't be trying to bite anymore. Dunno why they act like that but they do.
