TESTING Michael Harding's NEW Brick Lane Set!
NEW Michael Harding Oils JUST DROPPED
In this episode I explore the 10 new Brick Lane Oils for the first time, mixing and playing- generally getting a feel for each colour! Some of the colours I don’t usually go for too so I’m really excited to experiment for Art Life and hope anyone watching also gets inspired or at least enjoys the process of meeting a new range of oil colours for the first time!
"Michael Harding’s Brick Lane Oil Colours are a collection of ten paints that commemorate the time he spent in London’s East End in the 1990s. They include new convenience mixtures, like Neutral Tint and Blue Verditer, as well as single-pigment modern synthetic colours like Quinacridone Purple and Orange Benzimidazolone. In this film, Michael Harding shares each of the paints in the Brick Lane selection, the feelings the colours evoke, and how they can be used in your painting practice." - Jacksons Art

Those prices are not realistic. Where are you shopping?
Wish I could oil paint But art supplies are so damn expensive, Cheap Canvas $60, Winton oil paint $40 PER TUBE, brushes $20-$500 PER BRUSH, and mediums $60-$200 And my aree doesn't let autistic people work 😭 Why are art supplies so damn expensive?
Doesn’t this have a cancer warning on the bottle? How do you use this safely?
Any chance one of these Miracle Mediums might help soften and spread OIL PASTELS? I know oil pastels are made with a non-drying oil (unlike oil paint) so I'm not sure how the medium would react with the pastels. I would LOVE not to have to use Gamsol or its equivalent to help spread the early layers of my oil pastels in order to "kill the white" of the underlying paper and smooth out the color. Inquiring minds want to know! Thanks!
When we were there, there was one loud tourist-looking lady asking a staff member, "where are the Jack Vettrianos?" Lots of people started laughing.
Windsor Newton they produce Drying Poppy Oil = poppy oil + sicatif
Best video on charcoal I’ve watched, you clearly love it! Great job. Love to watch more of you in this process, much to learn! Thank you for sharing your experience and high quality education ❤
thanks so much for your lovely comment! Very glad you liked it!
Very nice video!
I knew it’s you, before even looking who made it 😅
I tried writing my bio/statement and I don't know where to start being someone who creates in all areas of interest. When trying to find the words it makes me feel confined and limited.
Its a very common problem, why not try chatgpt to give you something to start from?
Can't wait to try them.
You mix colours so well…
Thanks @hot-BoogieVolcano!
Te best medium ever. Better than the traditional ones believe me!!!
I understand why you can't address a question that would immediately occur to most seasoned artists: Why pay for tubes that combine colors we already have? Take "Wisteria" for example. Yes, it looks gorgeous. But it's just a mixture of quin magenta (PR122), ultramarine blue (PR29) and titanium white (PR6). Most oil painters already have those. Now, it goes without saying that Harding's version will be of the highest quality -- and yes, there may be some convenience in having the stuff pre-mixed (presuming you want to make a painting with a lot of purple in it). The fact remains: Most of us can use tubes already in our collections to whip up a glob of paint that matches Wisteria. I can make it with lead white if I want a faster drying time. I can make it without white if I want to work transparently. Most of all, I can make only as much as I need.
Exactly. "Wisteria"? It sounds like the type of name they would give for some interior wall paint. For artist paints, those names are irrelevant and for marketing purposes only. Pigment information is all you need.
Wow please give me ❤ sister
What are the width of your binder clips ? I’m referring to the width of the part which attaches to the paint tube.
Fab ! All done x
Hi . Can I send you my 13 years old son first oil painting, please? To give an advice please? Thank you
Remove the music
I bought this set for myself for Christmas. I can't wait to try them out. I love the color selection.
Thanks. You just remind me of something I needed .
J'adore
I tried this Harding primer recently, was surprised by how much it actually IS absorbent and almost gritty. Usually I use Golden gesso, which is a lot less absorbent and easier on the brushes.
I love my MH paints and was keen to try Miracle mediums. The drying time however seems to be about a week! Is this right, or have I done something wrong? I’ll continue to use Miracle medium to clean my brushes but the MM1 seemed to take forever to dry. Help. Can I add something to speed up the drying time ? Thanks.
Hi Liz, You won’t need much, as this medium is concentrated. A little goes a long way. perhaps this affected drying time? It is getting colder remember so drying time could increase. I would mix a small amount of MM1 Oil Paint Medium with your oil paint. Start with a 1:4 ratio (one part medium to four parts paint)
❤
Did you ever do a video on the turners yellow that you were the first person to get?
Great question! We never did actually but that's a great idea for a video, we'll add it to the list!
Thank you so much for this helpful video! Can you blend these different mediums? For example, the Miracle Medium and the Miracle Medium Dammar so you get a slightly increased drying time but less of a glazing effect?
Good question - I have not had a chance to try that yet, let me know if you beat me to it and how you get on!
Hi, can you share what the name of your studio light is please? Is it a natural light daylight bulb? Thanks
My studio lights are a strip lighting that are a warm white but they're accompanied by high power studio light that have daylight LED's
Hi, can you share how you deal with your rags/baby wipes? Do you dry your rags out and reuse them, or do you use baby wipes and dispose in a fire-safe bin? Thanks
Either, whatever works for your practice
Thanks for this video, it's great! I’ve been down a HUGE rabbit hole researching safe non-toxic oil painting solutions before I go out and buy my first set to experiment with. The only area that is still confusing to me is how you go about cleaning your brushes during a session (as you change colours on your brush), and finally how you clean your brushes at the end of a session. Perhaps you could do a video on these specific points including your post-painting clean-up process. I would love to learn more. I'm trying to establish a full painting process that is safe as my studio is tiny and has no air flow which is why I currently use acrylics only.
Thanks for your comment Susan good to know we will put it on the list of future videos - in short I tend to use one brush per colour tone if possible, then clean as much as I can with miracle medium and wipes or a rag, followed by Da Vinci Soap and water in the sink. Perfect for a small studio practise.
Is this oil painting on paper?
Thanks for commenting! Yes it is Arches paper made for oil paint
I I enjoyed watching and the content was interesting but I found the background music very distracting and annoying. Makes it very hard to concentrate on what you are saying. Please make more without. Thanks for sharing all your info.
Thank for commenting Fionnualacrossey5183
Hey, Just want to say I love your channel! I just had a question about the mediums....Im not too sure whats Im doing wrong. I have tried using Michael Harding Miracle Medium and it just seems to melt my painting and just makes everything sticky, have you had this problem?
Melting your paintings? Are you using the MM0 instead of the MM1? Miracle Medium is the Turpentine Replacement and Miracle Medium Oil Paint Medium is the one for linseed oil replacement! Let me know if this is the answer, if not we will get to the bottom of what has gone wrong!
As a beginner for oil painting which hasn't done yet any shopping for mediums, I would like to see a demonstration in underpainting : a. What type of marker and what color you are using for sketching on canva? b. Is MIracle Medium oil paint ( as thinning the paint ) can be replaced with Gamblin Gamsol or LIQUITEX acrylic medium in wash-out ? please show the bottle with complete name . many thanks
Thanks for your message! I have done a video called 'how i start a painting' with my underpainting techniques demonstrated as usually very fun and relaxed with raw umber marks or I use a ochre pencil for more detail. As I am an oil painter I have no experience with Gamsol or Liquitex acrylic medium. But for thin turps layers of oil paint at the beginning of a new canvas, Miracle Medium and oil should be a good beginning (then build up your layers with the MM1 oil medium as you would a linseed oil.) Hope this helps!
thanks for this video, really helpful! I use linseed oil as my medium, and gamsol as my solvent, just slightly confused - can the miracle medium replace both? Looking at doing an order and wondering if I can just buy the miracle medium on its own without having to get linseed oil and gamsol. Thanks! :)
Hi! So Miracle Medium MM0 is a turpentine/gamsol replacement and Miracle Medium Oil Medium MM1 is the linseed oil replacement. These will be the two products you need in your painting process!
Watching this in 2024 as a lifelong artist and refreshing my self study notes and I must say this videos was extremely informative and i thank you 🙏🏽
Thanks so much for commenting, So glad you found it useful, welcome to the channel!
thanks ❤
Thanks for commenting!
I hope you could test these colors over a dry lead white paint, using some medium or stand oil to do glazes. 🎉 Thanks for the effort
We Will be doing some videos soon using the colours on a canvas in some of my latest work.
Wish I could oil paint

Mmm those are lovely paints! Random question, have you been to Atlantis in the last year? The shelves are all constantly close to empty and I can’t understand why! Had to transfer my allegiance to GreatArt on Kingsland Rd.
@@Katharine-000 thanks for commenting Kate…interesting, no I haven’t been in ages- will have to ask around 🤔

Thank you for sharing these new colors. Your videos are always informative and delightful to watch. Your enthusiasm for color is contagious 😊I wouldn’t have considered opera rose before, but it makes some lovely mixes. And who can resist quinacridone colors? I look forward to future explorations.
Thank you so much for such a lovely comment! 😊
Fantastic ❤
Thanks for commenting Sandy!
I will admit. I'm disappointed and upset because I get tired of feeling left out of future art jobs because I'm on the autism spectrum. 😢
I am a bit confused between Phoebe Hicks and Phoebe Cripps - - is it just me? Both are superb artists!
They are one and the same before and after marriage.
