I hear some complaining that the game doesn't hold much tension. Players basically do what they want on a given turn and there is little interaction amongst the players. How do you guys feel about this based on your play of the game? Great job on the video.
I hope to play it in December 😭
Love seeing the kids involved! Can't wait till mine get old enough!
Howdy! If you're interesting in solo gaming River of Gold, I designed a solo mode expansion and posted it on BoardGameGeek. I would love to know what you think about the expansion after you give it a try. Also, I played many top 10 players of River of Gold on BGA. Have you come across WAGSR? If so, that's me! 🙂
👍🇵🇱
Great review.
Hey this is the boy from the video and thank you!!
Yeah, games I like to play are not necessarily the same ones I would pick for my top 20 list if I had to rank my collection. I really shouldn't be watching this because it's going to make me want more games. Lost Ruins of Arnak is amazing! One of my recent acquisitions. I passed over this one when it came out and I'm glad I didn't miss it completely. Wingspan has been on my radar for a while. I've passed over it because it seemed a little too plain. It looks pretty but nothing about the mechanics of the game have captured my attention...yet. Cascadia is really good. People keep comparing it to Calico, saying it's an improvement on the formula but I like them both for different reasons. Canvas! Another recent acquisition. It's probably overly simple for many gamers but cozy games are necessary for a well rounded collection. I always look for games that will entice non-gamers into the hobby. Canvas is that. Space Base...absolutely! Maintaining engagement for all players even when it is another's turn makes this one great. The sense of progression really satisfied me. Downforce is another one that has been on my radar. Still haven't bought but you might contribute to tipping the scales toward a purchase. Expeditions; Scythe killer? Really? I loved Scythe and have to admit I didn't pay much attention to this one. Maybe it just looked like more of the same. Huh, I'll have to check it out. Heat: Pedal to the Medal; well if that is also recommended I might have to ignore Downforce in favor of this one. The betting part of Downforce didn't really appeal to me. So, maybe this will be the one to fill that racing slot. I'll be checking out the rest of this vid later. Thanks.
Man, how do you just leave a review with such a glaring mistake posted without any corrections? Multiple people broght that to your attention, and you are aware that you criticised the map mostly due to your own misreading of the instruction (or not reading it at all). This makes this review misleading and worthless.
Fun to see you getting your kiddos involved! Skyrise is great, can't wait to get the deluxe version.
Been watching lots of this game's deluxified ed unboxng. And i feel bad for u guys, u expected a good product but instead u guys got deluxified 😅 the first standard is enough for a great game
Canvas is so fun! Great choice! Just to try something different, a few of us tried a game of Canvas together where we just chose art pics based on trying to get the most beautiful aesthetically pleasing look. Then, after we each assembled our 3 sets (final pics), then we flipped up the scoring cards. And saw who won by points. 😂 We also (for fun) voted on who we thought had the best overall picture and the most “thinky “ picture. 😁 I won with points, my daughter won the “thinky” award and my daughter in law won the most beautiful. We decided this way was also enjoyable and will do that version again, intermixed with the regular game.
Instant back as soon as I saw the name of the channel.
Lot of good games. That was fun toi watch (but a bit long. Hopefully she stays nearly all the video !!! 😊)
Hey, I love the format you have here. Points of view from kids and adults is great since I’m turning into an old guy but still want to be young at heart.
Yeah this is not for me its too light for my group and it feels too generous go here get resources type thing. If we want to play a light game with i guess a same feel We would rather play Clank! Over this :) Too bad bcuz i love the art thanks for the review
I would watch you guys anytime. Thanks for your work! Keep going.
Some great games. But why isn't TI4 number #1 on all the lists? ;)
Hey, thanks for the comment. I am a big fan of your channel!! Keep up the good work!!
@@WeAreInTheCave Thank you, sir. I just found your channel. Subbed.
Top tier picks, well thought out.
easily the most enjoyable top X list ive seen in a goood whillleeee!
Great video. This was the first video of yours that I have seen. Love your smart youngsters and their perspectives!
Thank you so much!!
Did you guys not like Root?
Hello there. The asymmetry of Root has made it difficult for my children to take to it. On a personal level, I enjoy Root, just not quite enough to make my top 20 at the moment.
@@WeAreInTheCave Understandable. Good list you got there. 👍
Great lists, keep up the good work!
One of the best top 20 lists I've watched and I've watched a lot. Love the contributions from the kiddos. Played all the games but Capital Lux and added it to my want to buy.
Be sure to come back and tell us what you think of Capital Lux!
Well done folks! Glad to see more young kids willing to play some solid games :) My 10 year old son and I play just about anything with a fair amount of overlap with your lists
Thank you for your comment! Glad to hear more people are gaming with their kids.
Great review! Gonna get this one for sure.
Wow I thought we would never see this game come to life. Thanks!
Love the video. Thanks!
Hei ^^ Nice review of the game, a little more details on how the game works would do it better. far from that please try and make the camera steady, seems like it was standing on the table and i was shaking. but overal good good :)
Excited for a brand new review
Thanks for the video! Finally a new one because all other Rise & Fall videos are over a year old. I received my copy (Clanmaster's Pledge) some days ago and I am looking forward to playing it with friends. Did you games only last an hour? I am afraid our games will last for 3 hours (3 players) because we like to think a lot. Yes, you can speed up the picking of the cards with the optional rule ("all players but one ready? Remaining player needs to draw a random card"), but after picking your card you still might need minutes to e.g. move your carts or decide what to do with your cities (every card and unit can choose one of several actions). As you are looking forward to feedback, here's mine: You should have explained how the game works. You only mentioned world building and achievements, but didn't explain the action cards and didn't show what they look like (something like "On your turn, you select one of your hand cards, then choose one of several actions for every unit on the board...you can earn gold with cities, trade with merchants, some units can climb cliffs etc.). It is also worth noting that the guilds and sea monsters, volcano, special terrain tiles are modules you can use after playing the base game for a couple of times.
Hello there. Thank you for viewing and posting. This weekend I have a four player game scheduled to see how much the extra players add to the game time. If you have a group that gets stuck in the think tank, I can see this game lasting quite awhile. I also enjoy your feedback. You are right, we need to do a better job of explaining and showing off some of the main components. We will incorporate this better in future content. Thanks again
@@WeAreInTheCave Looking forward to your game. My friends are on vacation so I need to wait for my first game some more. We need 3 hours for Ark Nova, 2 players 😀
@@leanderquest Update: We played a four player game with guilds and tales last night. The game was finished in less than two hours, including the time it took to teach the game to two new players. It was a lot of fun with four. I highly recommend playing this with your group.
@@WeAreInTheCave Thanks! I am 100% sure it will take twice as long with our group. :D
Great review guys. i enjoyed it very much
I appreciate you saying so!
This is going to be my favorite review of the game even if it gets 10s on the Dice Tower. I have a son about the same age as yours, so it's great to see you enjoying the game together. Really appreciate you taking the time to record your thoughts. Keep gaming together as a family!
Thank you so much for this!!!
Love your no bs style mate keep it up
this is why i held off on the kickstarter for the game. i wanted to see people playing the finalized version of the game to determine if it’s right for me. It is, and i’ve now ordered the base and expansion, without the mini’s kickstarting games you’re not sure about leads to this sometimes. the game isn’t your thing, so why kickstart it?
Hey man, thanks! After your thoughts,i definetly want to buy this game. Im looking for a hardcore game, to fight with mine budys. Dont give a f... About plastic miniatures, ant f... Wash. I think they have to stop maiking plastic figures. Their wooden pieces are awsom! Just like in vast, just like in root, jus like in jons company and in pax pair. Stay with wood ant releas 3 thousand copies of your game! Jesus..! For chryst sake... And those planets, yes, Their ajeisent.. So, realy, now Im saying for real-thanks, again. I was strugling to find opinion about this game from The heart of a true gamer. Make a video of your gametrhough. I would wach it for three hours.. Now its your Time! Go! The gamers are looking for this kind of information. Well, maybe not alot of them, but some. Still worth it! Love from other side of Atlantic ocean ❤️
Campaign play or one-off play? We will do it. Just tell me which.
@@WeAreInTheCave first maybe one off? :)
The two problems you had with components just to provide clarification. 1. The board actually works the way you would assume. So those 2 systems are in fact adjacent. 2. I have the same problem with the minis over the wooden pieces, tho one thing that would be important to note is that it doesn’t come with the expansion or the base box, so that criticism only lands on the minis and not really the game itself. Always love to hear different perspectives on things! Keep it up.
Thank you for the reply. I should have clarified that the component issue does not impact gameplay from a design standpoint. I will do better differentiating that next time. Thank you again.
@@WeAreInTheCave yeah it was really nice to hear someone talk about the campaign. I am trying to get more campaigns under my belt before I dive into it!
Good to hear dissenting opinions; I've learned not to follow the hype train by now, and independent channels like yours are paramount in the creation of a solid picture before purchase.
Thank you for the support!!
System 2 and 3 are adjacent.
I appreciate what feels like an honest review. I've found most 'situations' with rules we've been able to find the answer to in the book, somewhere, but having to look up revisions online sucks. Worse, no one in my game group liked the base game playthrough. I tried a 2p game with one of them adding leaders and lore, and he hated it. I've played perhaps 6 games of this online with people in the discord, and it's left me feeling like my game group is right and the game just isn't very good. I've yet to be able to try the campaign and now I likely never will, because the base game isn't good enough to get people to want to play it for that long. I played this on the older map with older rules and frankly? That game was better. While I find the current map more elegant, the other game just played better. Yes, the trick taking and the card actions is well thought out and works well, the way combat is resolved is good, but frankly the game as a whole isn't very fun to play unless the stars are aligning for you. And if Arcs campaign takes 9 hours I'd rather play Twilight Imperium. Even when I'm losing I'm having a better time there. I'm also an all-in backer, and while I think the wash is okay (I'm not one to paint them so it doesn't matter to me) the ship miniatures are of poor design. It's not a quality issue, but a design issue. The wooden pieces literally play better. The game is long; I'd estimate about twice as long as suggested on the box. Plan for about 1 to 1.5 hours per player. That's the base game, not the campaign. If you're playing a 4p game you will probably not finish it in 4 hours. You will if you've played a lot and your group plans their moves and alternate moves ahead of time, but if anyone in your group is the type who waits to start thinking about their turn until it's their turn, this is a long game. This has a very 'take that' feel to it without the short gameplay most good 'take that' games have. The campaign game might resolve all of my issues, but as I said, the base game has basically guaranteed I'll never get to play it, and now I'm not sure I even want to. The worst parts of a game like Twilight Imperium are how much luck of the draw on decks determines who wins, and this game exasperates that to a huge degree. Who wins really won't be decided by clever play and good moves; it'll be decided by who got lucky and was in a position to take advantage of that luck, and did it. It relies on table-meta to hold back the lead player, something that's shared by all of the Leder games I've played, and often what happens instead is that the game-meta pushes everyone to pick on the weak player because they can't do anything about it. In every game of Arcs I've played, except with my core game group, one player has been basically wiped off the board by Chapter 3 (twice that's been me). Something that's supposed to be rare, isn't, and I can't believe that with as long as they took playtesting and revising this game that the issue never came up, but with THIS version of it it comes up every time. This game may be a great game for you, and your group, but it's obvious it isn't for me, and it's time for me to accept that I just hate Leder games, or maybe it's just stuff designed by Cole Wehrle. This may be the first game in my collection I've ever been eager to sell, and I doubt I'll find a buyer. Cole, if you ever read this, I want you to know, yes, I think you did a bad job. Maybe you think having bad hands ruin your game is fun; that makes one of you. Yes, I saw that interview.
I appreciate everything you have said here.
How much are you selling the base game for? I’m looking for a second copy so I can play the campaign and base game!
@@LordoftheBoard I'm generally only willing to sell things in person. That said, my base copy is integrated with my blighted reach as everything fits in that box. I do think they did a good job with that.
@@chrisedwards6573I’m pretty sure it would be very easy to sell if you sold online 😂
Can i ask how many times you've played the base game and the campaign game?
Of course. I have played both twice through so far. It will be a challenge to find folks to play the campaign again, as it takes quite a long time and my group prefers TI or Eclipse for that amount of time invested. The one off version of this game does nothing for me.
@@WeAreInTheCave maybe some comentaitors are in your town? Meet up, and tri it. I want your opinion after more playtroughs. One more video, comon, please!
@@cabelys I will gather my group and do a live playthrough.
Those planets in cluster 2 & 3 ARE adjacent. Check the rulebook
I will go ahead and double check that. Thanks for the note.
Anything with a thin line is adjacent. The thick portion of the two systems in question denotes that the material planet in cluster 3 is not adjacent to the gate in cluster two.
Yea those for sure are adjacent. The small gap of space near the top is just to help visualize that separation between the gates.
I was coming here to say the same thing
yeah, lol. how do you spend this much time on a review and not know this
