    Please note that the BMPCC 6K only has one 6K shooting mode. All other modes are 4K down, including all ProRes modes. The bmpcc6k's 4k sensor (2/3 of full super 35 frame) is smaller than the 4k sensor which is MFT. In 4k shots (which are the most used) we have a crop factor of 2.5 in the bmpcc 6k, against a crop factor of 1.9 in the bmpcc4k camera. I mean for those who only use BRAW, if you use ProRes 4k downscaled from super 35 then you're right.

    I have a Viltrox and it seems fine, although I don't have a Metabones to compare it to. Some other youtube reviewers have compared the two directly and found little appreciable difference between them (one guy said the Viltrox was actually sharper at some apertures! Although I'd take that with a pinch of salt). This hints to me that there is some quality variation going on with the Viltrox. Maybe you were unlucky.

    Great review! I own both the pocket 4K and pocket 6K. The 6K has since gone down in price to $2000 (at least when I purchased it). They're both fantastic cameras with pros and cons to them both. If you need two cameras, and you have the budget, getting one of each would be my recommendation over two of just one. The one issue with the 6K (aside from the inability to shoot 4K in BRAW) is that because it has a standard EF mount, there's no way that I've found to eliminate the lens wiggle when using an electronic follow focus. If your lens is long enough, you can use a lens support to mitigate somewhat, but that doesn't help with a lot of smaller primes. I've been using a set of FD lenses adapted with EF mounts, and the wiggle on most of them renders the combination nearly unusable. I only have the standard metabones ultra atm for the 4K, but hoping when I upgrade to the cine lock version, that'll make the 4K and FD combination possible with my Nano Nucleus. If anyone has an idea how to lock the lenses on the 6K, I'd be thrilled.

    The Viltrox infinity focus often needs adjusted to dial it in perfectly. There are many TH-cam videos on this. It's a simple one time adjustment of the inner ring. The fact that this wasn't mentioned in this video, leaves me concerned for the results. If infinity focus of the Viltrox was never touched or adjusted, and the author of this video wasn't aware of this, then this comparison is somewhat flawed, since a properly adjusted infinity focus, would most likely yield nearly identical results, as shown in other comparison videos on TH-cam.

    • @film24fps
      @film24fps 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did spend quite some time trying to dial in the infinity focus using multiple lenses and still wasn't happy with the results. You're not the first person to bring up the infinity focus adjustment so, in hindsight, maybe I should have mentioned it in the video, but every speedbooster has a focus adjustment. Most of them come pre-calibrated from the factory, or at the very least are usable enough, but it seems like this isn't the case for the Viltrox. From what I can tell everyone who has used one has had to do it on their own. I did, however, make an attempt to calibrate it myself, even though I personally believe this isn't something the end user should have to do. Not everyone is equipped with the proper tools and setup to accurately calibrate infinity focus. Maybe that's one of the reasons why they're cheaper? Who knows?

    Wow, great information and wonderful presentation. I just picked up a G85 to up the game on my YT channel (was filming with SL2 / Sigma 18-35), but am very unhappy with the focusing issues. I never knew auto focus would be so awful on the Lumix. Love me some DPAF from Canon :)

    • @weightlessfilms5651
      @weightlessfilms5651 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The autofocus is a pretty big flaw with the G85. But fortunately for me, I never really used autofocus. On the rare occasion that I did, I would use a Canon 80D with an STM lens combo. But I wouldn't give up on the G85! It was my primary camera for several years before I upgraded to the BMPCC 4K. I used the standard Metabones Ultra and a Sigma 18-35, shot in 4K, 23.98 FPS, and was so impressed with the image quality for the price. I still often use it as my B Cam. I took it with me to Ireland and Iceland, and I'd often even use the kit lens when low light wasn't an issue; it's light weight and dual IBIS was fantastic. With the G85, I think you'd be safe getting the Viltrox and you'll still be pleased.

      @@shamsheeds I could do that, but without a speedbooster you would have a different crop and would only see a more central part of the lens, x1.9 vs x1.349. That more central area compared to the edge of the lens would be different even without a speedbooster (the edge would just be cropped). If you add another glass element to the edge and compare that to the central area with no speedbooster, you would understandably yield drastically different results.

      @shamsheeds 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@film24fps You are indeed right. Just sharing my experience; for me an advantage of using a speed booster on the Bmpcc 4k is that it helps to avoid dust on the sensor itself. Whereas if there is dust on the speed booster, is is less visible and easier to clean. I have had a speed booster on mine most of the time and never had any dust issue. The last time I used a mft native lens, and had the speed booster back on, I ended up with a dust on the sensor which was annoying.

What I took from his video is that the Viltrox EF-M2 Mkii is an improvement to the Mki, and that the EF-BMPCC4K is better than the EF-MFT at low apertures. I remember him saying that the improvement is not worth selling your EF-MFT to buy an EF-BMPCC4K version, which is understandable since you would lose some money, but the EF-BMPCC4K is still better. • @film24fps
      @film24fps 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello! What I meant by crop lenses was lenses that are intended for use with smaller sensors like APS-C. If you use them on a full-frame camera, the image will not fill the entire sensor. Sigma's DC line or Canon's EF-S line are examples of crop lenses.

    • @halomaniackslashcraz
      @halomaniackslashcraz 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s interesting, I film on a gh5 m4/3 and are always annoyed I can’t really have a nice wide lense w/out a speedbooster due to the 2x crop. Could I find similar cropped lenses for the Panasonic m 4/3 range?

    • @film24fps
      @film24fps 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@halomaniackslashcraz These kinds of lenses wouldn't help you have a wider FOV. Crop factor is a confusing thing. In an attempt to make it less confusing, manufacturers always reference 35mm sensors. The labeled FOV on crop lenses reference a full-frame sensor, so you still have to apply the crop. If you see an EF-S 10-18mm, it means that when using it on an APS-C camera, it would actually be a 16-29mm. The only thing that changes is the projection onto the sensor, meaning a crop 10-18mm lens and a full-frame 10-18mm lens have the same FOV on a crop camera, but the crop lens can't be used on a full frame camera, since it was only designed with the smaller sensor in mind. Hope that helps!

    eh ... nice shots, editing, grade ... but, you're missing the fact that *almost every Viltrox EF-M2 adapter have to be calibrated after you unbox it* . It is a very simple procedure, all you need is a small phillips screwdriver, few minutes of time and open view to some object in the "infinity" range. After you finish, you lock optics with the screw and it is forever. I'm using the GH5s with the Sigma 18-35 - no problem with focusing (except for panasonic focus jumbo-mumbo), iris control and when you calibrate it perfectly, your zoom glass will keep focus during zooming. Btw. last weekend my friend ask me to calibrate his Viltrox and the BMPCC 4K, so I did it - calibration, Viltrox FW update, BMPCC FW update and quess what - everything works perfectly fine! Please calibrate and update your gear a then make a new video ;)

      I feel your disappointment ... I have to admit that Viltrox (and many others China companies) are fluctuating in their production quality. I was maybe just a lucky winner of a slightly better unit :) On both optical and electronical sides.

    • @film24fps
      @film24fps 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      (reposted as 24 Frames) I did calibrate my Viltrox as soon as I got it and spent more than a few minutes trying to get it to be perfect. It seemed to me that with a calibrated infinity focus, shooting closer subjects wide open just wasn't as sharp as it should have been. The GH5s of course has a different sensor, but it's nice that your friend's Viltrox is working ok. At f1.8 and f1.4 I didn't get the sharpness I wanted, even after calibrating, so I decided to try a different adapter. The focus wasn't the only thing that pushed me away though, I didn't like the loss of iris control or the glitch that misrepresented the current aperture. In the end, I wasn't happy with the product and decided that it wasn't for me, but that doesn't mean that you can't be happy with it. Discussion is always good and I appreciate you taking the time to watch.
