    Hi, I'm getting error code "5EB1, steering angle sensor LWS - signal relative - steering wheel central position unidentified" on 2006 BMW X5 E53. The 4x4 light stays on. I've tried turning the steering wheel on both sides as shown in the video but it didn't resolve the issue. I would appreciate if you could suggest a solution. Best regards..!!!

    I know a auto place in Jacksonville, fl. by the name of Sam's BMW auto repair who can fix it cheap if your steering is sticky and failing. They are the best and honest. I got mines done over a year ago and still driving perfect.

    You can buy a used steering column on line for about $300 to $400. Get it install for about $200. Make sure it comes from the year 2007 above. Problem solved. That what I did and it work like a dream. If you are from Jacksonville, FL., reply back here. This is my way of saving $3000.00 .

    They now make an aftermarket gear you can pop on, like $80. The plate you talked about pops off, and you can put the new on on. I've heard you can rotate the old gear 180° and that will work for a long time, but eventually it'll work its way back to the worn out part.

    • @gasfree2

    That will work once or twice, then it will not go off and you need a new SAS (Steering Angle Sensor) about $400, happened to my 06 at 55,000 miles.

    I noticed that you have over 190,000 miles on your car. I have a 2001 x5 with 187,000, been putting some money in it lately.. Including ABS module, this did work for me. I'm sure there are more issues to come.. How has your car been with so many miles? Wondering if it's time to trade in

    • @KiwiSloth
      @KiwiSloth 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is actually 192,000km, not miles. I traded this car in late last year (with 235,000km on it) for a 2007 X3 3.0sd.

    I have a X5 2005 4.8is and I noticed the same problem. When this happens, the back doors doesn't unlock too and many times my son had get in and jump to the back seat. I tried to turn on and off the motor and sometimes it solved. Sometimes I started driving and after a while, if I restart the car it solved the problem. I believe that if I try this maneuver it may solve the problem. It makes sense! I called a mechanic and he said it may be worthwhile to clean the sensor's track Thanks a LOT!!!

    I understand what your saying its a fix of sorts. My BMW airbag light goes on and off when someone sits in the front passenger seat another common fault. also i have been reading when your driving in ice and snow the ABS and traction lights stay on because it thinks its still on ice. and after a few miles they go out. Automobiles are far too complicated

  • @KiwiSloth
    @KiwiSloth 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    When the steering angle sensor has a fault, it causes the ABS, traction control and brake warning lights to show. Using this method resets the steering angle sensorm which then causes the warning lights to go off. For some people this fixes the problem, for some it doesn't. For me, it fixed it for about 6 months, but then started happening more often, so I eventually had to get the steering angle sensor replaced.

  • @bmwnasher
    @bmwnasher 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @KiwiSloth Why did the abs and traction lights come up there must be a fult code logged, what i cant uderstand is how can this be a free fix. it would be in the drivers hand book. i would be careful in the case of death in an accident they will go over the car with a fine tooth comb. just my opinion

  • @KiwiSloth
    @KiwiSloth 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @keechada Sorry to hear that, you might have a faulty sensor instead. Perhaps go to a dealer and get them to check the error codes stored in the car's computer

  • @KiwiSloth
    @KiwiSloth 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @bmwnasher not sure why you think it is a fake, it is quite well documented on BMW owners forums (that's how I found out about it) and it worked perfectly for me, as shown in the video.
