I have seen this pattern repeated on a number of occasions - in highly competitive situations, Lieke goes out too fast (like she is running 200m) with the inevitable fade at the end. She has put in some very good times over 400m but needs work on pacing, whereas Femke always has reserve for the final kick. Anyway, congratulations on a podium finish for a consistently high level team!

Ireland's time would have won a silver medal at the Olympics in 2021 and the World Championships in 2019 and 2023 and a bronze medal at the World Championships in 2022.

I find the tall female Dutch athletes very beautiful including their speed skaters.

1 month later and the Irish win gold in Italy. Outstanding

A relay is always won or lost by a team in total! All four members did their best. My special respect goes to Lieke for courageously stalking and attacking her extremely strong opponents, putting all her energy into this battle. Kicking off fast is always risky but sometimes a risk is the best way for keeping a chance for Gold. Femke managed to run a really amazing final leg, so last but not least the Dutch team still won a European Champs medal which is great. 🧡 🇳🇱 🥉 🎉

Does anyone know what the changeover zone is at the first leg? Look particularly at the French in lane 4. It would seem obvious that in general you should leave that first changeover as late as possible so the male does more running than the female. Are the other teams not taking advantage of this or did France get away with it?

So good to see all the complimentary comments from Dutch fans here. Good sportsmanship costs nothing. A great win to Ireland and well acknowledged by their rivals.

Old same story about Klaver. She defenetly should run only 200m.

Huge win for the Irish, congrats. Bonevacia was off, Klaver tried to compensate and run with Adeleke but eventually gassed, third leg was ok, Bol is Bol but she can't do everything.

Lieke did not do the job, otherwise Netherlands was getting gold. BUT, à gigantic bravo to Ireland.

Congrats from the Netherlands to the Irish and Italian teams. Once more we have to admit that the male athletes can’t stand their ground. Lieke was too eager to correct and Femke knew it was lost. Nevertheless bronze, ok. More wasn’t in it. Adeleke brilliant.

Klaver probeerde de eerste 200 die Adeleke voor te blijven wat niet lukte..kostte zoveel energie dat ze helemaal leegliep!

Klaver was terrible today. I don't expect much from the male runners from the Netherlands since they didn't even qualify for the Olympics. Congrats to the great Ireland team.

The race was won on the 2nd leg. Klaver tried to hold Adeleke on the outside similar to what Mawdsley did with Bol in the Bahamas. They both went off far too quickly but Klaver died more in the home straight. It was that gap that Bol could not bridge on the final leg. I want to see the 200m splits of adeleke and klaver. I

Ikkink's 3rd leg 44.68 split was the 2nd fastest among the men behind Doom's 44.16. First 2 legs of Bonavecia (46.10) & Klaver (50.74) were the issue for NED! Klaver just hasn't looked right this outdoor season, tried to go with Adeleke (49.53) on that 2nd leg in the first 200m and paid for it in the final 100m! Congrats to IRL, fantastic performance from all 4!
