Try really hard to just get the bold words. They give you key words when you're telling them these, it's actually easier than I was thinking it would be. Also for the 5s they give you key words so knowing AGKLM helps a ton

Depending on location. It may take 5-7 years before getting the opportunity to becoming a package car driver. I would suggest that you study the 5 seeing habits and 10 point commentary, while expressing your goals periodically to a full-time management staff. They should be able to assist you with the process. Also consider becoming a seasonal driver during peak season.

#5 and #10's why are seriously messed up and whom ever wrote this this way for the company on purpose needs to be replaced. you check your mirrors for lane position, not keeping eyes ahead of car, your eye lead time keeps your eyes ahead of car scanning down the road, not your mirrors and gauges. somethings at ups seemed like Orion routing specifically designed to hurt service and profits by causing larger problems.

learning tip: our minds form the new neural pathway best in our brains by the act of doing. there are 3 ways to learn #1 verbally hearing/reading/writing #2 watching which is part of reading but with visual as the most important part instead. #3 by doing, this works best with another EXPERIENCED person who actively trains and instructs, telling you what you must be thinking, and doing, and what to look for and how it feels. the 5's can be ryhmed and establishes a good fast rhythm. the 5's lead to and are tied into the 10's and will lead you in each other: 5's 1,2,3 followed by 4-6,6-8 #4 started with 4 what is 5? communicate, horns, lights, signals, eye-2-eye (5 things to help your remember #5 think of them as bullet points that help you remember each line) i started doing seasonal xmas driver in 2019, learn the 5's word for word, don't just say them, imagine them and act them out, or be the passenger in a vehicle and recite the parts you can remember for every situation you can apply it while traveling in the vehicle. don't do it as the driver until you can mostly remember them word for word, just recite the parts that apply every where you encounter them on your journey, PRACTICE SAYING THEM OUT LOUD THIS IS IMPORTANT FOR NOT ONLY YOUR ROAD TEST BUT ALSO DURING INSTRUCTOR TRAINING AND FUTURE SUPERVISOR RIDE ALONGS. same goes for the 10 point commentary, KEY WORD IS COMMENTARY, again, you will have to prove you know these parts by saying them out loud to drivers and instructors and management you can recite pieces of them as they apply while on route BE ACCURATE. it's okay to mess up a little on the 5's and 10's on road test BUT NOT DRIVING, you probably will be nervous like most people are, BUT KNOW and CALL OUT when you mess up your 's and 10's and ask for the correction or go back and correct it yourself if it comes out wrong as quickly as you realize the correct way. if you're nervous say so. it's not hard, it's just fast paced, KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING AND DO IT CORRECTLY THE UPS WAY, it's above and beyond the law for good reasons. over a million drivers have contributed to this entire companys systems, they have figured out everything, not a joke. you don't get to be management with out proving you are one of the best, with the sharpest minds and the ability and will to make every one, under you, jobs happen well. the road test is just that, what liability/hazard are you out on the road? are you aware of what you are doing, how to do it, the why's and what's. can you be trusted not to injure, kil, damage or destroy lives and property. this is a very fast paced job, it has alot of precarious dangerous situations you WILL face in and out of the delivery vehicle and with customers property, and are the FACE OF THE ENTIRE COMPANY TO THE CUSTOMER, YOUR ATTITUDE AND VISUAL PRESENTATION AS WELL AS COMMUNICATION ARE EVERYTHING, CAN DO ATTITUDE< EVEN IF IT REQUIRES GETTING HELP BUT FIND A SOLUTION YOU CAN SOLVE ON YOUR OWN FIRST, and never be afraid to ask other drivers and management and even inside preloaders and unloaders, it's team effort and SECONDS COUNT but DON'T BE A BURDEN always keep trying to get better this is how you gain and ensure customer trust YOUR are there to HELP THEM make it a positive experience even when things go wrong, learn the solutions to these problems, not all of them are taught, this is where asking your fellow UPSers HELPS IMMENSELY! EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED at everything at UPS YOU ARE THE PROBLEM SOLVER and must prove you want this job alot with issues that come up as they will, nothing gets done unless YOU MAKE IT HAPPEN IN A POSITIVE MANNER.this company runs super lean and profits from efficiency with little to no extras as far as equipment goes so any time something goes down, it causes a big headache that MUST BE FORCE OF WILLED THRU and there are few and far between people with little to no time to hold your hand thru it as they have hundreds of trucks and drivers, and hundreds of thousands of packages to oversee, plus inside staff, personal delivery drivers using their own vehicles as supplemental delivery support to minimize excess and over flow loads or when delivery vehicles become disabled for what ever reasons. UPS want to handle inhouse as many of the problems as possible due to personal delivery people not being reliable for these solutions, they are last resort and often are scheduled with other things in their life outside of their contracted normal. normal things you know that happen out on the road to any one, ask others for the solutions to before the problem comes up: where to find sand or chipped rock, where do i find ice scrapers or what do i do about iced wipers. i found bringing a note pad and making annotations about things i encounter helped alot. i've never been afraid to route my own route on the fly to meet requirements and make things smooth or clock work which is taking the path of least resistance. orion is not an improvement over the older routing system. sometimes your route is designed the way it is as a backup plan incase another driver has problems and you will be the helping hand solution for box pick ups, next day air deliveries or pick ups. the computer system is global and knows about things that the label was just printed for or another route is falling behind schedule, and the system updates accordingly from the satellites as management is overseeing via GPS and making the adjustments and rerouting as they see necessary. i've seen and handles and solved alot of it first hand when the little brown package cars fill up and can't take any more, i jump in to finish their pickups or help them get caught back up with deliveries or both. that's what a Xmas driver is there for, support and back up

3:26-3:30 NOPE NOPE NOPE VIOLATION THIS IS MY POINT OF DECISION THE STOPPED CAR PARTIALLY IN MY LANE WITH A DOUBLE YELLOW LINE IS DO NOT CROSS AT ALL FOR ANY REASON UNTIL IT IS ABSOLUTELY CLEAR TO DO SO... AND IT IS NOT AS ONCOMMING TRAFFIC IS APPROACHING AT THE POINT PACKAGE CAR WILL BE ILLEGALLY OBSTRUCTING IN THEIR LANE THE OTHER DRIVER CAN REASONABLY BE EXPECTED TO STAY ****CENTERED***IN THEIR LANE, AND NOT MOVE OVER TO ALLOW A PASS IN A NO PASSING ZONE NO MATTER WHAT DOUBLE YELLOW LINE. i do not know if that vehicle partially in my lane is going to resume forward motion, backing up, exiting the vehicle, or Uturn or run into a drive way or along the curb on the opposite lane of traffic. this new video is an absolute failure as so many things i encounter while driving every day professionally and just going home or to the center happens MULTIPLE TIMES per trip such as the car cutting into my safe stopping distance at lights and traffic slowdowns. again at 3:37 my point of decision is at the driveway before the moving van partially obstructing my lane. 3:44 THIS IS NOW A BILLBOARD AS I CAN NOT SEE THE MOVING VAN POINTED TO THE EXIT OF THE DRIVEWAY AND WHAT IT IS DOING AND IF ANY ONE WILL BE WALKING INFRONT OF THE VAN TO ENTER THE CAB FROM THE FRONT, AND SAME SITUATION WITH ONCOMMING TRAFFIC. at this point i have seen 3 violations that my supervisor and center manager would be all over me with verbal warnings and write ups. also to note 4th violation of lack of communication in traffic as per rule 5 of seeing habits did not establish eye contact with the people at the rear of the moving van, that could reasonably be expected to step out into my path. in this case the path of least resistance would be to stop and wait for traffic to clear or to have turned onto the previous side street to take a different route. NEVER PUT YOURSELF INTO A DANGEROUS SITUATION AS THIS DRIVER HAS DONE REPEATEDLY should a collision occur this driver is 100% liable at fault

...so there's no chance of being hired on full time if first hired in as a seasonal? Do you need to apply for different positions?

yeah they failed half of us out on day 5, they wanted they keyword and title and some of the meat and gravy, wasn't easy it not my strong suit , i know what's in store though next year . personally i feel it was a bit gate keeping which is fine for the union workers but they also had a bit more than they needed at my hub center /location if you go to a intergrad location good look, they a bit more stricter

been studying this for a week besides all they cramped into us for the week training and i just cant do this type of word for word , it makes me feel stupid besides the fact ima likely get sent home after day 5 of the week of training, i mean i got an IQ of 118, top 14% well above average but i just cant recite this , i can drive fine , besides hand over hand and not really verbalizing mirror check so i know i know it , it just words are hard

You only need to KNOW the bold letters. The rest you just need to say in your own words. You don't need to know every single word

@@cory2841if that’s true then I’m gonna pass with flying colors. I was driving just yesterday and recited the whole 5s and 10s in my head and I did it in order. As I was driving, I recorded myself to make sure that when I went back and reviewed everything, I had done it correctly. So if that’s the case then that’d be really good. Gonna still have to listen to these videos and read the material to get a general idea of what to know just in case, though.
