Ive trained with Dusty and know he has absorbed Shotokan instinctively, he was with us for a season and now 3 yrs later we still use his drills and his methodology. Once demonstrating kicking power into a bag, I watched closely as his roundhouse kick flew toward the bag, you could hear the air flow over his foot moments before impact, and then through the foot into the bag and through the attaching cables and then into the roof beams you heard the building itself shake, I'll never forget it and neither will the other 5 guys standing there who also felt the vibration. This is one guy in a million, but behind his talents was alot of hard work over many years.
This looks to be in the early years of the Paramount Dojo, I have no ideal of the year but when I started 78 the dojo had a lot more stuff on the walls. If I were to guess I would guess that this was something special with Mr Ohshima leading and only black belts in the practice, maybe (looks to me) the opening first practice for starting up the dojo? Oh man do they all look so good in their movements and of course Mr Ohshima is amazing. An Don is just an animal in there, this brought back just how intimating he could be when sparring or really any kumite.
I trained with Don in the late 70s and early 80s (Paramount) and I have great respect for Don. I can't remember one neg. feeling or time in all the times I spent with him. He was a true teacher in all ways.. This was great to watch, Thank you Dusty for putting this together.
@Henrick Boot Try posting JKA or JKS Dan test videos in Japan so you can easily see the difference. Also go see videos by Naka Tatsuya, Kanazawa, Ohta and many others to see what proper Shotokan kihon should be.
@@diegofrancoleon1609 one wonder what is the “correct Shotokan” when the major Okinawan ryus all trace their origins to China, then in turn, India….. 🤔

Assuming Jka is the only correct shotokan is a mistake. It is obvious páginas technique is afectted by his age nevertheless.

@@lingoistj1956 there is no such a correct shotokan, just because we do not really know what Funakoshis taucht.
@@diegofrancoleon1609 exactly! Therefore the various shotokan schools who claim there’s is the original one, are all full of crap.
