Spitfire Flight at Biggen Hill, UK May 2024
Dream flight in a Merlin-powered Mk IX dual-control Spitfire that was attached to the Royal Australian Air Force in WWII in the South Pacific, in the famous "Grey Nurse" unit. I was able to do this flight enroute to the 80th Anniversary Celebration of D-Day on week later on Omaha Beach in Normandy.
I significantly trimmed the total flight length , but wanted to include the victory roll and some maneuvering clips. It was a joy to fly--a bit sensitive in pitch, but about like my Lancair IV at home... I was able to log time in my logbook that I will never forget...
Cheers and many thanks to John O'Connell and the great team at Biggin Hill!

That is pretty cool but it seems like it’s more work than simply snatching it out with a manual device. I’m guessing as one gets a little older it may provide some value but I’ve seen videos of you jumping in that plane like your under 30 years old. How do you keep so fit and athletic enough to hop right up on the wing and into the plane? Awesome plane, sir.
I stopped "snatching" about 15 years ago--not as easy to snatch 2000lb of airplane up a sloped ramp as it used to be. To be fair, this was the first time I used the T1X2. I am much better at it than I used to be. As for hopping in and out, the rest of me may be going to pot, but my plane entry muscle memory is still intact!
@@douglasjohnson2247 that’s funny stuff. I can definitely see slopes being an issue and the body going to pot except for plane entry muscle memory is gold. Lol!! Wow that plane of yours is sure one beautiful plane. I love how you state you’ve babied it in the video I watched. Those Lancairs are my favorite. Blue skies and many more years of not going to pot for you, sir. I would love to see more videos of your plane. I searched but only found a couple, I believe.
