I moved to the US in 2018 (I am French) and I was lucky enough to be able to buy a house. I couldn't find any furniture I liked so I decided to make my own!
That is how I started My Woodworking Journey:
- I started with a Couple of Tools given to me by a Very Good Friend, (not to say Family Member: complicated and interesting Story) and bought more as I needed them for My Projects.
- Regarding Power Tools, I decided to go and stick to the BOSCH Platform (as I used to work for them).
- Regarding the Bigger Equipment, the same Friend started me on Equipment Auctions where I bought My Planer and Bandsaw. Now, I am hooked! I enjoy looking at Old/Vintage Machinery. Sometimes purchase some, take a road trip to go get them and bring them Home. I enjoy figuring out if they work, how they work, and if they need anything to go back into Good Working Conditions and eventually even Restored!

JET 14" Bandsaw Cleaning and 1st Cut
I bought at an Auction a JET 14" Woodworking Bandsaw: JWBS-14CS, 1HP Single Phase, 115V/230V.
I already have a 14" Bandsaw and a 20" so I don't need another one. Let's dive into this one and make sure it is all up and working before going to a good home.
Let walk through that together.

RD-750 Radial Drill Press: Does it work?
where did you find the motor repair and parts manual?
Just googled it online, probably VintageMachinary.org but I don't recall. I also bought the Mr Sawdust book that is really helpful too if you want to restore a RAS.
Nice, how much did you pay for it? I think that dust bag/filter should be shoved upward into the top half but it probably doesn’t make too much difference as long as you empty fairly often.
Thank you very much for the tip. I will shove the bag upward. That is actually how it came up with but I thought it would shove itself up once I turn the morot on :-) I only paid $400 fot it. I think it is a really good deal, at least to me!
@@prophilwoodworks3453 definitely a good deal.
All sound like good projects, especially any 3D projects.
Nice job Phil! Why don't you run the wire to the nose bottons? I love the 3HP Frame 563. You should wire it 220. Half the amps. The difference between a Standard Arm (16" crosscut) and Medium Arm (24" crosscut) The Medium Arm has a 42" long and the base is 36"x48" as compared the the Standard arm's base is 36"x48"
Thank you very much for your feedback and expertise, it is greatly appreciated. The saw is wired 220V already ;-) I tried to troubleshoot the nose button but I think soemthing is wrong with it as I did not get the proper contacts (I couldn't figure it out) so I left the other ON/OFF switch. It works great but it would be nice indeed to have the orignal button running at some point :-)
@@prophilwoodworks3453 Interesting. I'd love to see the motor tag. So you think the switch itself is bad? Original saw sells that switch. I did notice in the beginning of you video that you did have that narrower wire that comes out of the magnetic starter. That was the nose button wire. I may also have a few buttons in my shop. I know I just sold one a few weeks ago. I have to try that clear coating you use. Very nice!
@@DeWaltRadialguy Yes, I tested the switch and I think it is dead. If you have one available I would be interested 🙂Regarding the motor tag. You can see it in the video at time stamp: 2:33, 3HP Frame #563
@@prophilwoodworks3453 I will check. I love the frame 563! Yes 18 AMPS 220V. Mine nuns fine on a 20AMP breaker.
Oh my.....how i wish to have those tools ...only in dreams 😢😢😢😢
Thank you 🙂 Lots of very good deals from Auctions. I'm addicted to them now!
@@prophilwoodworks3453 lucky for you...we have many tools here but I can't afford
I think it would depend on the work you do, and which machine is in the best shape. Which one is the most versatile. Can one do all the work you do in your shop. Good luck, Mike
I like all 3 , I have the same 14 inch. I’d fix the Jet and sell it. Nice shop.
Thank you. So far, I am thinking the same! I like the 20" and the 14" so much :-)
Love your channel!
Thank you so much! I’m glad 😀
Quit.
Keeping the saw and parting out the drill press?.....
Not what I had in mind but that is an idea ;-)
Where did you download that Manual from?
what is the reason for the wedged fence? replaceable?
You can move the fence to get more cutting capacity if needed and it is easy to replace yes.
Great job looks like it matched up nicely... enjoy watching your video's... and your humor, I can SO relate too....
Thank you very much, I really appreciate your feedback.
Get a motor starter. Loose the light switch
A nice old machine you have there! Enjoyed the wiring part; I'm making a table for my Father's saw which is missing, this was very helpful. New sub.!
Thank you very much and good luck for your Father's saw.
WOW-AWESOME 😮
Thank you 🙂
When the doors open....Heavy Duty seem to be the words of the day. What are you planning on working on next?
Heavy Duty in the word indeed. Old American Cast Iron works great :-) I am working on a Table for my Laundry Room. It will be a Folding Table made out of Exotic Woods. Stay Tuned ;-)
That will be interesting@@prophilwoodworks3453
Wow you have some magnificent equipment an shop. Thank you for posting!
Thank you very much, really appreciated
Thanks sharing
Would you mind sharing where you got your manual ??? I desperately need one ... thanx ...
If you are referring to the Mr. Sawdust Bible, you can find it on their website at: mrsawdust.com/. For the RAS manual itself, I found it searching online for Manuals. I found multiple ones that were not the right one until I found it. But there are 2 sources you can try where you might find it: "The DeWalt Radial Arm Saw Forum" on the DephiForum (forums.delphiforums.com/) or on Vintage Machinery (vintagemachinery.org/). Good luck.
I have the Mr.Sawdust Book, and I found two manuals on the vintagemachinery site, but I have not been able to find the one you have. Would you be willing to scan yours and send me the files ??? I am more than willing to pay you for your time & effort.
@@MrBobWingard Sure, just send me an email and I will reply with the file attached.

Dosent appear to be much of a production type shop to me. Maybe buying and repairing older machinery is part of the business model?
Indeed it is not a production type shop. I mainly build for myself and I occasionally build custom pieces for Customers. Flipping woodworking equipment is also part of my Business Model indeed. I like giving a 2nd life to Woodworking Equipement :-)
Great Buy! Can I ask what you paid for it? One up for auction near me, not sure what it's worth.
I paid about $800 at the auction, including fees. But I also spent about $1,000 for the trip to OK and back. I would have spent $2,000 max. to get one (about 50% or retail price I believe). And I have been looking for one for a long time. So if you have the chance, get it 🙂
No dust collection. Very questionable choice
Thank you for your comment. I wouldn't say that, I have no dust collection YET. As said in the video (@19:22), that is what I need to work on next. I want to connect my dust collection system to it. Just not the 1st priority.
Pretty great conversion! Any tips for making something lighter weight for easy removal?
Thank you very much for your comment. I has been really helpful multiple times already and I love it! Indeed, a little heavy for the 2 long sides. I added short pieces at the top on the exterior side, on the front and back (1"x1"x6") to be able to lift them up from the pockets but it requires 2 people. I would maybe consider plywood instead of 2 bys to make it ligther and more managable. But the only thing I see though is about the wheelwale because there are no pocket in between. So it might be a lot more work.
We need to talk nice!
Isn't the switch too inaccessible?
It is not too bad. I would love to be able to use the original one instead. That would make it perfect.
Great job on your restoration! Excellent job! Enjoy. Nothing like Dado on a DeWalt Radial! You have some great tools in your shop! Just wondering why, you are not using the on/off nose button? Thanks for sharing!
Thank you very much, I really appreciate your feedback. I tested the nose button at the beginning and it didn't work. I'll try to test it again (may be I did it wrong) or I'll try to find another one. I'd love to have a working button too :-)
@@prophilwoodworks3453 Call the Original Saw Company or Tom Wolfe of Command Industrial. They should have the switch for you. I may also have one.
@@DeWaltRadialguy Sounds great, will do, thank you
Great video, thanks for the helpful tips and instruction….. Really enjoy your channel, keep up the fantastic work! 👍🏼
What kind of drill bit are you using to start the holes in the board that goes behind the fence?
Here is the Process I am following: First, I punch the Center with a Punch. Then, I use a 3/4 Forstner Bit for the Counterbore and a 3/8" Brad Point Bit for the through Hole.
Thank you, that helps alot!
Love your dog. Ours is goofy, too.
I might have put the bolts back in the holes before spraying. Hopefully you didn’t get too much paint in the threads of the bars
I like your rust removal technique. I would have also wire wheeled those bars clean, then coated them with Fluid Film protectant. That should prevent future rust. Not sure about your clear coat, but maybe.
Thank you Sir. I did wire wheel the bars first but didn’t show it on camera. I’m not sure either about the clear coat but I was planning to run through a tap in each hole before putting the bars back on the table. We’ll see, I’ll keep you posted.
Acid based removers are not good for you or the environment
I’m new to this, what are you using instead that works good?
@@prophilwoodworks3453 WD-40 makes a rust solve, Purple clean will do a great starter job at clear oil grease and even some rust. My go to is Evaporust, it is kitchen sink friendly. Just avoid de-rusting springs of any type because springs are very high in carbon, They disappear or weaken in the solution.
@@bigjarnIf you are concerned about your health and the environment, then any commonly sourced Purple anything degreaser should be the LAST thing on your list! It’s all crap and Even with a respirator it still gets into your system through skin .It makes me ill just from a few splashes on my hands or forearms… I work in an industrial setting and I have a few coworkers that won’t use anything else; they are clueless to it’s toxicity. I concur with the rest of your comment 👌🏽😎
You gotta be one brave SOB to be able to run a 12" or 14" blade.
LOL
😁
Thanks for the video. You may be able to find who has the proper replacement switch from the "dewalt radial arm saw forum" You may be able to find where to get a manual for it also. I have an older one like 1954 DeWalt 10" RAS and have been using since 2006 about. I'm in the process of replacing the table top right now. I hope you end up liking your saw as much as I like mine .
That motor draws 18 AMPS at 230V as per Motor Tag
12-4 SOW wire
I went a little more :-) 10-4 SOW wire instead but I agree, 12-4 would do. Thank you.
the plug is a 220 single phase similar one used on stoves and welders
Thank you. I replaced it with a 20A 240V plug and it works great.
