It was and still is the heaviest limousine from Stuttgart. The Mercedes-Benz W140 was created in times of prosperity, which made it known. And it was also Stuttgart's dream of a 12-cylinder superlimousine. We will never see anything like that again.

It all started in 1956, when two prototypes from the Kopřivnice Tatras appeared at the exhibition in Brno.
The dialogue on this video is hilarious, @10.40 the Wankel engine was "bothered by childhood diseases of the new concept". Together with the robotic voice, this video is a good example of how not to do audio on YT.

I’ve owned a number of S-Class sedans but never the W140… great video, thanks for sharing. I wish there was a better computerized voice, the monotone nature and numerous mispronunciations detract a bit from the overall experience.
These robot reads are quite annoying, despite the subject matter being interesting

Very informative. I have a NSU Prinz that needs motor work. I hope I am able to repair it . The body is excellent and my wife redid the interior.Hopefully I will get it going over this winter. Parts seem hard to get in Toronto Canada. I enjoyed the video. Thanks Rod
Stupid ai voice ruins the entire video! This is one of the best cars every made, and you can't use a normal voice! And it goes on for 20 minutes. What a disgrace.

I owned one of these years ago. A 1992 300SD bought in 1997...Unbelievable repair costs over $20,000 worth of warranty work including a new engine..$14,000 and AC Evap core replacement and climate control dash unit $5100 According to the cars history the AC evap core had already been replaced once before when the car was about 2 years old

All the work was done at Crown Mercedes Benz in Dublin Ohio Over $20,000 worth of work The evaporator core that was done twice on my W140 was 28 book hours at the Mercedes We can add trunk closing assist died , two of the window regulators and the switch over valve that actuated the blend doors Perhaps I would have had a better situation at an I depended my dealer versus a Mercedes Benz dealer service
Never buy luxury diesel lol haha. I have a petrol one, 0 repairs done 😏
@@doggSMK The diesel Mercedes in the 1980's in the United States were legendary....easily 500K automobiles. In fact they still bring a lot of money on the used car market. However...the 3.5 was not a winner and I have heard the recent blutec were not either. I owned a W126 and W124 diesel that were incredible cars before I bought the W140 My particular W140 had other issues as well..the AC evap core , a 26 hour job at the Mercedes dealer, had to be done as well. I found out that this was the 2nd time it had been done on my car....so a lot of issues and people I saw at the dealer with the W220's at the time were having a lot of issues as well.I saw many of them being towed in with airmatic suspension issues
@@turnne well, yeah the OM606 turbo was legendary diesel (the diesel 2JZ). 😁 I guess you was just out of luck. In my country there is a saying: to get a good car and good wife you have to be lucky 😂

I added a 1997 W140 coupe (C140) CL420 we found in Spain 44k kms on it. Love the size of the coupe's 2 door body style..reminds me of my parents 1971 Cadillac Eldorado personal luxury coupe. @@hwyterrorist

Great video. Excellent collection of information... I enjoyed this thoroughly... I love Tatra, and Praga trucks in any configuration. We have nothing to compare to these beasts... Don't want to hurt any feelings in my part of the world....but...hey. The truth is in the footage and longevity of the truck... And Kamaz, and Ural. Happily subscribed...
