    We had one guy come to our traditional Iai Dojo. He wanted to learn the proper way to use a sword. He was taught flash and fancy movements but he realized that it was phony.

    Outstanding. Only thing I was a little negative on is the slamming of it back into the saya. Otherwise. Awesome.

    Just,jumping around like a monkey. You could do the same think while wearing your jump suit and wielding a simple stick. Why choosing the katana and hakama ( which,by the way, is too long and you step on it) ? Because you want people to admire you and have appeal to the chicks. That's why! So, go home ,make you self a warm cup of milk (coffee is for mature grownups)and search for a serious iaido sensei IF you are willing to REALLY learn anything dissent.

    From a Iaido student of six years and having trained in Japan. Fun to look at but there are no Kiai ( shouting) in Iaido. You want to hear the sword swish. It is the sign of a proper quick-draw. The main error here that many beginners make is not pulling back the saya as you pull out the sword. It is a counter movement essential in the flow and balance of the sword strike. But hey, have fun and keep practicing.

    why did he always hit the tsuba against the saya while performing Noto? why is there a "neko ashi dashi" at the mid of the kata?, is he "twirling towards freedom" at the mid of the kata with open arms, why? is he doing shiko dashi from shoto kan or from shito ryu? why did he hit his hakama so hard before returning to seiza?. This video is kind of confusing because at some point it shows certain degree of technique and at some points it seems like "America-Do-Te", like some comments before is this serious? is this karate? is this taekwondo? is this kobudo? is this iaido? how should i see this video?

    • @alexeireyes3683
      @alexeireyes3683 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was appalled when I saw all that twirling. In real combat, it would be a liability. Oh well, if it's for entertainment or something other than self-defense then I guess it would be acceptable. Personally though, I wouldn't do a lot of these moves since they leave him too vulnerable to attacks. I'd say he also needs to work on his noto because it snags and it's way too noisy. I'd recommend practicing with a steel iaito since he looks like he's using an aluminum katana. The hakama he's wearing is also a liability and I hope it doesn't cause an unfortunate accident.

    I watched this video since I've today(March 26, 2022 at 9:30-about 1:30) went to tournament in American Open Karate. I had won 1st place against a separate school and as a prize I was given a katana. Since my school doesn't have katana's or swords's in the manuel I've clicked on this video to import one into it. So thank you for the(if I am correct) traditional shotakon kata.

    The reality is a sword and 7-inch battle use is just a tool nowadays. If one wants to use a sword or battle knife you are most certainly gonna get shot with a rifle or a pistol. A sword or battle knife can certainly kill and do damage but it's a weapon of surprise. In the surprising role, the sword and knife are secondary silent killers with firearms being primary.

    Although I'm a stickler to the traditional rules of Iaito and Buttodo this dance here is him having fun. There is some respectable precision to be honest and we should embrace creative fun side displays like this ti help keep the Katana arts alive. If you show a young kid a video of a Kata competition they will go too sleep...but show them this guy and they will be hyped.

    Cute! Add some streamers and music and pretend this is for a silly music video. Everything from the name to the movements and the way you hold and use your “nijugama” screams “Untrained-westerner doing everything wrong and needs to train under under a qualified instructor.”

  • @donoberloh
    @donoberloh 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Cute. Add some streamers, music and background singers and you too can look you at as untrained and nonsensical with your “Kama”. Just a little facts for you though: no one rolls when holding sharpened weapons in the hands. No need to, and very dangerous as well. Two “kama” are referred to a Nijigama. (Niju-kama). If you want to thrust the tips into something, even though the design makes this entirely silly, you must hold the handle as close to the head as possible to get better control by decreasing the leveraging action created when thrusting forward. If you want to “sound” Japanese the form should be called _______ no nijugama sho. (Never shodan. A dead giveaway that some westerner named it. ) Fill in the black with the creators name or community. Don’t forget to to hold you Kama with a reverse grip to “block” a strong wooden weapon attack with the handle. Instead of trying to receive an attack with a jujiuke style posture with both tips crossed in front above your head. Never ever use Elongated stances from Sporting karate styles. These were developed for aesthetic purposes. In combat, on uneven terrain, such as a Kata should emulate, would never have the feed is filling fast the wizard of your shoulders Better yet.! Study under a qualified instructor for decades before making up silly dance routines.

      @ActuallyRex ปีที่แล้ว

      Clearly someone did not get the memo that this is a style of martial arts with strong implications of kyokushin karate. If you knew what kyokushin is, it is a very upright, full contact fighting style. This is also an aesthetic kata itself, so it is perfectly fine to use elongated stances. Red Dragon is also an American Style of martial arts evolving from Kyokushin and Judo, as well as strong Okinawan roots based on weapons, but in no way did it say it was Japanese or tried to be/sound Japanese. Try and do your research before announcing to everyone how much of an absolute idiot you are in a 6th grade-level essay, let alone under a TH-cam video hiding behind a keyboard.
