I can see mos of what you are saying is correct. On point 5 though you should also consider we are very direct and someone asking why you drink is more out of curiosity then amlice I think. The Dutch are a pretty conservative bunch and appreciate their privacy, just like most northern Europeans. True, taxes are high but look around and compare the infrastructure and services with those in your country of origin. Different, right? Also most adult people are married and their social lives revolve around direct and extended family. If you don't have family, your life will be difficult because the Dutch will not invite you to their home. You'll probably not know where, how and with whom they live.

You should consider that most Dutch people are married and only socialize with family i.e. parents, in-laws, cousins, etc. If you don't have that your life will be pretty miserable, especially during the weekends. They don't party or go out for dinner with outsiders, unless there's a special occasion. Also, at work, your colleagues are just that. They're not your friends and you'll definitely not invite them in your home.

I am from Pakistan currently staying in Turkey. I have job offer from Netherlands, its really hard decision to make. I love Turkey and people here. The salary is almost same but as you know Turkey is very cheap and I save a lot here. Only reason I want to move is the uncertainty on my job as well as Turkish economy/politics. In Turkey they change laws overnight and may ask foreigners to leave any time you don't know :D

Regarding the content, Office culture, yep, other than the obligatory friday drinks after work, and 'what are the weekend plans' or 'how was your weekend' it is just work. Even close friends working in the same office have the same attitude, because it is work and work has nothing to do with the friendship. From experience: I fired a friend because he didn't function in the role he had. Moved him to another branch, he left 3 years later and was doing way better job: He got head hunted 😂 Discrimination. Ove point number 2, I am from Mexico living in NL, for 8 years. In Mexico also relations are more warm. One of the main keys to be health mentally is socialisation, according to psychology, and here in NL seems very difficult.... I believe because of the weather (that us horrible in NL) and shallow solicialization, this country seems depressed, lack of sense, lack of belonging, boring, and depressed. Tips to overcome: establish personal goals that gives pleasure: hobbies, NL has a lot of groups, clubs of all type of things. Do exercise, for me is hard to do workout in plain air, because of the weather, I prefer in gyms, have a mentality of learning: Learn, learn the language, be open to learn different things. This helps me a lot, but I have to say that everybody is more happy In their own country.

Yes the weather is NOT Mediterranean, they well plan everything and Netherland is a rich country (so ALL salaries/cost are ok)

I'm a Dutchman. 1. Yes, the weather sucks, that's why lots of Dutch go on holiday to Southern France or Spain. 2. We are a very calvinist nation, we do not easily share our personal life with other people. You really have to invest time and energy in a friendship in order to get deeper. A similar attitude is common in Scandinavia, Germany and Japan. 3. Yes, the Netherlands are small and yet we live here with 18 million people. It's overcrowded in relation to the amount of square kilometres. 4. We pay a lot of taxes, that's true, it's for the social system we have. Therefore we're not always too happy to share that with newcomers who haven't invested in our economy yet. 5. What is considered as a micro-agression is completely relative and therefore this is the only point I just disagree with you. Lots of Dutch can be fairly blunt in their communications, but whether it's a micro-agression or not is completely up to your interpretation. The fact that someone compliments you for your English and you feel that as a micro-agression can also mean you're too easily offended. But I can explain this one easily to you. By far most Turks who live in the Netherlands do not always master the language as graciously as you do, thus you receive a compliment. My advice, accept it and cherish it, we Dutch give out compliments as if they cost us money; thus not too often.

Reason #1: Xenophobia and racism runs rampant in the Netherlands. Let's just call a spade a spade and not an agricultural implement. Nearly 13% of people in the Netherlands have reported being discrimated against in 2021/22. 1.6 million reported acts of discrimination but most people don't report it. It's everything from unprovoked profanity, insults/verbal abuse, rude remarks, belittling, passive aggressive behaviour, to filthy looks, snickering, stares, unfriendliness etc. There is also institutional racism in the labor market and housing market to name a few. Immigrants or those of immigrant ancestry generally have access to far less opportunities because of said racism and xenophobia.

Thanks Murat for the video! As someone with dutch ancestry living in South Africa, I plan to move to the Netherlands after graduating from college. Knowing why not to move is so much more important than knowing why to move. A lot of videos are made by people who have only stayed there for a short while and only lived in Amsterdam or other major cities.

I had a Dutch friend who's been a friend for some years and when i saw his picture sent by him, i said that he's getting fatter because there was Covid 19 that made him WFH and he's got so angry to me, all the beast words came out from his finger....i just had no idea why he got so offended just because i told the truth about his look...so funny.

Actually, all these 5 points are true. I lived in Israel and these things are not true there except for also being an expensive country. These 5 points are mostly true for North-Western Europe, so don't move to England, Germany, Scandinavian countries or the Benelux if these 5 points are important to you. The West Europeans don't mind, they are used to it. but if you are not, the Netherlands will be a bad choice. No tongue in cheek here. In this overpopulated country, foreigners can be really lonely, poor and miserable. West European citizens won't mind, so they are welcome and will feel at home. it just isn't what you are accustomed to. I lived in Israel and enjoyed it there as a young adult. As an early pensioner, I rather be in the Netherlands as Israel isn't very suitable for pensioners.

I went to the Netherlands during the summer. There was a historic heatwave in Europe at the time and it was hot af lol
