C5 Gore-tex Shakedry 1985 Viz Cycling Jacket Review
In this video, I am doing a quick overview of C5 Gore Shakedry Viz 1985 Jacket.
It is incredibly light, fully waterproof, windproof, and stylish looking. The fabric quality is outstanding and will last for years with good care. The fit is snug and aerodynamic, which is ideal for training. I only wish the price would be more affordable.

    I have this. I’ve used on a marathon race and also use it on bike rides. It stays on and the fogging is relatively a non issue for the most part. I use a photochromic lens for those early morning sessions and at night, if it’s too bright, and it’s bright and sunny on most days in Hawaii and when it is, I’ll use a prizm road or black lens on it. These are not coming off your head, it’ll stay on the duration of the run or bike ride.

    You missed the most important feature - the reason to buy it - it's breathable. Waterproof jackets make you sweat, doesn't matter if it's waterproof you'll get wet due to sweat. Shakedry several manufacturers make similar jackets, allows the sweat vapour to pass through the material - whilst keeping the rain/water out - so you remain dry. This is its biggest and vastly better feature to everything else on the market, it's why they all are expensive in comparison to other non shakedry jackets 👍

    What temperature range would this jacket be suitable for?

    • @bikedriven
      @bikedriven 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question! The jacket itself is very thin and the temperature range depends on what you wear underneath. For example, a summer short-sleeve jersey and the jacket on top should be okay on most spring & fall days. In winter it is better to put a long-sleeve jersey on. If the jersey is very warm then you can go into freezing temperatures with the jacket on top. how many hours long battery and light can it last.

    • @bikedriven
      @bikedriven 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, this will depend on the mode you are using. For example, the battery lasts 2.5 hours on the highest output mode (I almost never use it) and up to 60 hours on an eco-friendly one (this is my go-to choice for night & winter riding). Hope it helps!

    Bought this. 1000 miles later the velcro came open on the seat post and ruined a new pair of Castelli bib tights. I will never purchase another saddle bag with velcro.

      Hi, I am really sorry to hear this. I was lucky so far by not having a similar issue. Btw, did you settle on a new saddle bag with a buckle clipping mechanism? If yes, which one? Thanks and stay well.

      Hi, thanks for the feedback and totally agree with it. This is something I am working on right now - getting new filming equipment to drastically improve the quality of my reviews and show the products in action. For other reviews, I do have additional articles on bikedriven.com & this one is more of an outlier. In any case, hopefully in early 2022, the quality of the videos will drastically improve. Thanks again for the feedback & be stay safe.

      Hi David, I tried packing the jacket into its back pocket. It requires a lot of effort and you really need to jam the fabric to a "dangerous" level . I did not even managed to do it since the pocket is so small. Not sure now if it is actually meant for that purposes. Will continue packing the jacket into jersey's pocket as before. Hope it helps!

    what are your thoughts on the lens durability ? I am finding them easily scratch-able.

    • @bikedriven
      @bikedriven 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, thanks for the comment. I don't see any issues with scratches, to be honest, and super happy with durability. I think they will easily last a few more years for me. One thing is that I need to be more careful when switching the lenses. Already damaged mine a bit in the place where it clips to the frame. Nothing serious, but something to be aware of.

      @@bikedriven I am planning for night ride. Which light will you suggest with long battery backup?

    • @bikedriven
      @bikedriven 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@drbhushansali I don't think I ever used a light that can last for more than 4-5 hours on a bright mode. Maybe check out Lezyne Macro Drive 1300XL, but it will not be the cheapest one. It is quite bright so you can ride with a lower brightness mode to prolong the battery life. Also, think about taking a power bank so you can recharge. How long do you plan to ride at night and what are your conditions (e.g. completely dark?)? Maybe I will be able to give you a better recommendation by knowing more context. Some other options to consider that I revived in the past -> bikedriven.com/accessories/5-best-front-bike-lights-for-night-riding-1100-1300-lumens/ Be safe out there.

    • @bikedriven
      @bikedriven 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@annukun7318 No problem at all. I assume you are talking about their Core line, right? If yes, the pads are quite similar even though I would still give preferences to Assos. The pad thickness is pretty much the same, but I feel like the density is better with Assos so the foam should last longer. Also, the ventilation holes and the front part of the pad give it a big plus. That said, the pad is a super individual thing and you also need to account for the saddle. If you are very happy with Rapha then maybe better stick with it as it should be slightly cheaper as well. What's your reason for thinking about the change to Assos? P.S. I will be reviewing Rapha's core bib shorts in few weeks as well.
