Hawthornden Castle, Midlothian, and Environs: Views from the Air
Recorded by a DJI Mini 3 Pro when the trees had begun to show their autumn colours.
Half a mile from Roslin Chapel, which was made famous by Dan Brown in The Da Vinci Code, Hawthornden Castle is described as a writers' retreat. The bumf on its website indicates that to be allowed to use the place you would have to be a somewhat distinguished writer; evidently we Joe Publics could not expect to rent a room for the afternoon in the hope that the fine setting and surroundings of the building might inspire us to write a particularly expressive epistle to our favourite tax inspector.
The video shows that construction was going on at the time.

Drone Views near Eddleston in the Scottish Borders
มุมมอง 616 หลายเดือนก่อน
It is likely most folk that know of Eddleston think of it as a place where cars are inconveniently slowed to 20 mph as they pass along the main road to or from Peebles. Well, they might find it worth their while to slow to 0 mph and explore the village and its environs. The views shown here were got by a DJI Mini 3 Pro.
Aerial Views Near Pathhead, Midlothian
มุมมอง 747 หลายเดือนก่อน
The DJI Mini 3 Pro began by flying far above birds busily ministering to their beaky broods of hungry hatchlings; then, having traversed trees it loomed over languid lambs, captured contented cuddies, videoed a viaduct and, penultimately, (before landing at last at the launch location) panoramically presented Pathhead. All airborne activity accomplished in less than 200 seconds. Acknowledgment ...
Mayfield Road, Edinburgh: Looking Down on New Building and Over the City
มุมมอง 5610 หลายเดือนก่อน
For two years now motor traffic has been unable to enter Mayfield Road at its south end, owing to building. That state of things is a pain in itself, and as it encourages ratrunning it must be even more of a pain for folk living in side streets nearby. So we must hope that the dwellings, when completed, will be excellent. The video shown here is from two flights by a DJI Mini 3 Pro, both necess...
A Drone Donder near West Linton Golf Course, Scottish Borders
มุมมอง 59ปีที่แล้ว
The appearance of the golf course was incidental to the purpose of the flight shown here. But I must say, if I was a golfer I might aspire to playing a course in a setting as scenic as that of the West Linton Golf Club.
Mavic 3 Waypoints: Tips and Cautions
มุมมอง 27ปีที่แล้ว
This video does not give instruction how to plan a waypoint mission; fine explanations are easy to find on other TH-cam channels. Besides, the facility for programming the Mavic 3 to fly waypoints is such a brilliant and thoughtfully designed feature that little instruction is necessary. However, a few things that tend not to be emphasised are highlighted here: 1. You can plan a waypoint missio...
Fireworks Greeting the New Year at Polton Bank, seen from the Air
มุมมอง 44ปีที่แล้ว
I missed quite a bit of the action through having the DJI Mini 3 drone in the wrong place as the new year began, and so failed to record all but the tail end of what must have been an impressive blast for folk nearby in Polton Bank at the edge of Bonnyrigg, Midlothian. Eighty seconds into the video there is a view towards Loanhead.
Aerial Views Near Lasswade Viaduct
มุมมอง 60ปีที่แล้ว
Recorded with a DJI Mini 3 Pro. I have appended video from a flight nearer Mavisbank House, as the views were even more impressive than usual, the trees being in their shortlived autumn colours.
Rosslyn Chapel and Surroundings from the Air
มุมมอง 31ปีที่แล้ว
My previous videos of Rosslyn Chapel were recorded on an overcast morning one November, when a spectacular layer of mist had settled over part of the North Esk. This time there is no mist but brilliant sunshine enhances the scene and highlights the wonderful autumn colours of the trees between the Chapel and the North Esk. I am full of admiration for what DJI have done to pack marvellous techno...

DJI Mini 3 Pro: What Speed to Fly at
มุมมอง 126ปีที่แล้ว
DJI tell us that in dead calm the Mini 3 Pro's battery gives its longest flight time when the aircraft is flown at 21.6 kilometres an hour, which is 13.5 mph. But if the speed is increased somewhat the distance the aircraft can travel might actually be greater despite the shortening of the flight's duration. To investigate this a Mini 3 Pro user living not far from me recorded the screen displa...
Loch Linnhe Near the Croit Anna Hotel
มุมมอง 413ปีที่แล้ว
The views were recorded by a DJI Mini 3 Pro. The hotel is 2.5 miles southwest of the Highland town of Fort William. The area was lucky enough to have reasonable weather at a time when havoc was foreweened in Scotland, owing to storm Babet. In the event the storm unleashed its fury in the northeast, in particular, and to dreadful effect.
Memories of Drier Days
มุมมอง 20ปีที่แล้ว
This video recording of a flight made early in August last year provides a reminder of how different the weather was then: drought parched the fields to a straw colour, and the dryness persisted even in places where extra cricket matches were organised: it seemed nothing would lure the reluctant rain. This year rain reigns, and the only thing it is reluctant about is stopping. The flight was ma...
Flying round Bush Estate, Midlothian
มุมมอง 46ปีที่แล้ว
Well, round Edinburgh Technopole, which is on the estate. The video was recorded by a DJI Mini 3 Pro. The Technopole's website tells us the place is concerned with scientific matters, but there is also a carpark for use by dog walkers. A prominent Scottish contributor to TH-cam calls his Mini 3 Pro "Lassie", and if he can pretend his aircraft is a dog so can I, and I took mine for exercise ther...
Droning at West Linton
มุมมอง 35ปีที่แล้ว
The population of West Linton has mushroomed. In the 90s, if my memory has it right, it might have been described as a two-horse village, if there had been room to get two horses in. Now the horse population is indeterminate, but West Linton is home to 2000 people, and it is easy to see why folk would want to live there. The views were recorded by a DJI Mini 3 Pro.

Thank you for these encouraging words; the more so as your own videos have such a professional, more elaborate look.
Uranocopist~you uploaded outstanding sharing, 🤝
fantastic footage,very impressive.
Thank you for you encouraging comment. Actually, I was lucky to get this video. For after chafing with impatience for the rain to stop before darkness should set in, I eventually launched in the failing light of dusk, in my haste forgetting to remove the neutral filter that is normal for broad daylight. The consequent underexposure has, perhaps, flukily enhanced parts of the recording. I also forgot to switch the camera on, but fortunately noticed the omission shortly after takeoff. Hurry up slowly, as they put it in ancient times.
rosewell is a great place we lived there when myself and my big brother and our mum and dad its so lovely richard
thanks from Russia and Livingston, Scotland!! all the best!!!
Captain Queasy remarks: An alert TH-cam viewer has kindly notified us that our guide, Susan, erred in identifying a building as Cockenzie power station, which was demolished in 2015. I regret this lapse from the high standards upheld by QueasyJet; and Susan, whom I have rebuked, now wishes to put it all behind her, as I did. Should other mistakes come to light please do not hesitate to report them to us: for Susan takes a pride in her commentaries, and welcomes correction in the event of inaccuracy or error.
Very interesting to see how much the old place has changed over the years ...
You know, the town seems to change little from day to day. But we are sometimes startled on suddenly realising how much the accumulation of little changes amounts to.
The reference to Cockenzie Power Station made me chuckle ... that was demolished in 2015. I think you really meant Edinburgh College (near Milton Road) or perhaps Queen Margaret University (near Musselburgh station). The old place has changed much since I left all those decades ago !! My thanks to Susan and Captain Queasy for the tour. I really enjoyed it.
Changed my mind on the white building ... isn't it the new incinerator near Millerhill?🤔
Thank you for your encouraging remarks, and for keeping me right about Cockenzie Power Station. I had been used to seeing it as a distant building with a double chimney, and later, seeing a building with a single chimney, supposed that was its replacement.
Very nice footage of the coastline. Especially this shots at the end on the sunset. Enjoyable to watch. LIKE from me 👍👍
Thank you for your encouraging remark. You know, I am often delighted with the video I get from my drone, but cannot help thinking how little the result is due to my actions: I simply have to send my aircraft aloft, and today's wonderful technology makes flying it easy, and filming what it sees automatic and virtually costless. How indebted we are to Nature for providing fine scenery and to the many people that have developed the technology drones depend on.
@@uranoscopist6090 You described it very accurately. 👍👍 While humanity is amazing, it also has its dark sides. That is why, while pursuing my passion, I want to remind people how important it is for us to take proper care of our ONLY ONE planet.
Thanks from Livi, RU and LV.!!
Woohoo~ Yeah!perfect done!:))
this is interesting uploading~talk you later- 😮
Where is this flight taking place, USA with FCC mode or some place other?
No, Midlothian, Scotland, with the exiguous CE allowance of transmitter power we are granted in the UK and Europe. In America you should do a lot better, especially on the 5.8 GHz band.
It's not luck to own a Mini 3, it's more luck to actually get hold of a Fly More KIt. It's a pain with just one battery at the moment. By the way, I got 27 minutes with 5% battery left
So my analysis of battery performance is in line with your finding. As for whether ownership of a Mini 3 is lucky, on checking I find that the owner of the model featured in this video received it together with the fancy controller and the Flymore kit, the whole bag of tricks, on May 19th. Even in America, where folk generally seem to be better served than here in the UK, there have been complaints from people not expecting their goodies till July or later.
@@uranoscopist6090 I just sent an email today letting me know that the FMC has been delayed until mid June due to, "DJI's quality control issues" We'll see....
There was also. Over the football field, the signal dropped and returned it to the autopilot back

Yeah? Well, it's always, "A man out walking his dog...", who finds a body, isn't it? Hmm...
Nice!
Hi there! I would love to speak to you about licensing this footage to use in a TV programme. Would I be able to contact you? Many thanks Amy (Assistant Producer)
Excuse the tardiness of this reply. I had not realised your comment had been posted. If it is not now too late, I should be happy to cooperate.
Thank you. It is so lovely there. I was hoping to visit but this is a trip in itself.
What a great birds eye view of Rosewell . Love it :)
Fabulous filming! I was wondering if you could film Ruchill Hospital in N Glasgow? I think that a drone would be the only way of seeing what's left. Thank you.
+Alison Lee (TruthAlways) Thank you for your encouraging words. As for Ruchill Hospital, a drone flight over it has already been posted. A pity it is not longer. Here is the address: th-cam.com/video/B3aBJR5TeP4/w-d-xo.html
Uranoscopist Thank you! And please continue your wonderful films :)
