Head gasket removal for Horace the Hippo - Freelander 1 2.0 XEDi
For a while, I've been chasing coolant loss along with the cabin not warming up. In this video I have done a coolant test and found combustion gas in the coolant, so we run through taking the head off and inspecting the gasket.

Aqara Magnet Door/Window Sensor Unbox and add to Home Assistant
มุมมอง 6K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Following on from the Sonoff SNZB-04 video, I have had to replace the Sonoff devices. Out of the three I bought, only one has been working reliably. I have several other AQARA sensors and they are working well so I decided to go with the AQARA Magnet sensor instead. This video goes through unboxing the device, what is in the box, and adding them to Home Assistant using ZHA and a ZZH USB dongle.
Xiaomi Honeywell Smoke Sensor unbox and add to Home Assistant

Short video running through an unboxing of the Xiaomi Smoke Sensor and then adding it to Home Assistant. Apologies, when unboxing, the background noise suppression managed to completely mute the alarm sound. But it was good and you get an idea when pairing. Quick Review at the end, really happy with this. Would be good if you can give this video a like Update: I have got automated testing worki...
Aqara Motion Sensor unbox and add to Home Assistant
มุมมอง 9K3 ปีที่แล้ว
I know I say Xiaomi in the video, but I have just discovered that Aqara and Xiaomi are completely different companies (I thought Aqara was a brand under Xiaomi or similar) Unboxing an Aqara Motion sensor and adding it to Home Assistant using a Conbee II USB device and ZHA integration. Experimented with different camera.
Sonoff SNZB 04 unbox and add to Home Assistant
มุมมอง 22K3 ปีที่แล้ว
My first video, so it's rough. I am unboxing a Sonoff SNZB-04 Window/Door sensor. It operates on the Zigbee network. After unboxing adding it to Home Assistant via the ZHA integration and a Conbee II USB stick. You'll be glad that I don't follow Paul Hibberts lead with the Home Assistant thrusting! I am still learning the whole video creation so this is rough but hopefully it works for someone.

Thank you. The car is a great workhorse for us so want to keep it going.
@@marklewis5460 top man. New subscriber 👍
Very much appreciated thank you
It is not reliable. I bought eight of them. Four of them not working after several week. Not recommend. Please use several month before review video
Correct, I have now swiched to Aqara after having problems with the Sonoff
Any idea how to trigger tthe self test from within Home Assistant?
I’d have to have a play but it should be possible to create a button to call the service
How do you get it to pair? No instruction how to make it flash blue consistently.
Press and hold the button on the side for 5-10 seconds
i did the same but, even after pressing the reset button for a eternity the device doesnt show up on ZHA :C
Compared to the aqara ones these are ultra garbage.. battery life is really bad
I do prefer my Aqara sensors. I have found them more reliable than the Sonoff.
Can this be added with the ZHA integration or does it require MQTT setup? Thanks!
As it's a Tuya device I would expect the quirks to be available. I have had a look on the GitHub repo and cannot see a specific quirk for the device but lots of 'issues' raised. It looks like it does work but not fully until all the quirks are in place
How did you like presence sensor so far? Am looking to get some and are trying to figure out which brand to go for.
It's working really well for keeping office light on when someone is in there. Not sure distance is fully accurate via Home Assistant (Zigbee2MQTT) when close up - I have it on the wall in front of my desk where I sit. The cats have triggered it briefly a couple of times so think I need to turn down the sensitivity. Would like to get one in every room. Overall, really happy with it, it's Tuya based so am sure many more will crop up,
@@marklewis5460 thanks! Was planning to use it the same way, just to turn them lights off.
Shame you missed out the step showing how to put the device into pairing mode.
Apologies, because it was an unbox it was in pairing mode straight out the box. There is a small reset pin (like mobiles) that you can press & hold to reset
In my HA I can add the device but it does not respond with open and closed iaszone status. I have two and neither work, while contact sensors from other manufaturers are fine
I had issues where it just stopped responding. I could add it and then it would never show as open/closed. I ended up replacing my Sonoff with Aqara which have been reliable.
the bloody thing doesn't work for me. ZHA does not find it. what am i doing wrong?
Not sure why ZHA doesn't find it. Are you close to the hub/USB stick? Do you have powered devices extending your zigbee network?
i ran into the same issue. when you pull the hardware out of the case, you can find at the battery side a small button which could be used to start the pairing process. this worked in my case
@@JoeyPat83 You can access that button via a small hole in the case too. Press for 5 seconds to put it into pairing mode. There's an LED visible through the case that should flash 3 times to confirm.
Thanks!
If you have multiple smoke alarms will all of them go off when smoke is detected at one?
Not by default. It might do within the Xiaomi app, it might be possible within Home Assistant using automations, however I haven't tried. They aren't linked though by default as far as I can tell
Hi, nice video. I would like to integrate Xiaomi Fire alarm in my home assistant with conbee2 but it's not clear to me if It Is possible to turn off the siren remotely from HA. Can you Help me?
Unfortunately, I do not know the answer to this. I will take a look through and see if there is a service that can be called to silence an alarm.
Have u sucessfully added it with the conbee2?
@@gambler3k I've not been using it with my Conbee, i don't see a reason why it wouldn't work though.
One more thing: Have you encountered loss of status after a few hours in the HomeAss ? Cheers, OJ
Yes, I did. I ended up replacing them with Aqara sensors. I did try using it with the Sonoff app and zigbee Bridge mainly to see if there was a firmware update to fix it but alas there was not.
Battery: I think most Chinese suppliers put the 2032 battery in. Hence the lose connection. Like you stated: The CR2450 type supposedly is the correct type which is more expensive and therefore not supplied at all times. I did not check but I suppose, it's not only about more capacity but also thicker.
I did buy some 2450s but think they were physically too big for it in the end.
Mark, Thanks for the video. I want to pick this up for my HASS running on my R-PI, however every model I see on Amazon says it requires The Aqara hub. I have a USB stick in my R-Pi that is both z-wave / Zigbee. Will this work directly with that without needing their hub? Can you post a link to the ones you bought? Thanks in advanced for your help.
Hi Dave, I am not using the Aqara hub. With my Home Assistant, I have used the Conbee II USB device, Sonoff wireless Zigbee hub and more recently the Electrolama ZZH USB device. All of which have worked with the Aqara sensors. Although I don't have a Nortek? USB device, it should work directly with your installation.
@@marklewis5460 Thank you for your quick response. I am excited to hear you didn't use the hub. I was 99% sure that was the case. I'll pick them up and let you know how it works out. Thanks again.
Hi. Thank you for this. Can you tell me the model of this? Or can you share the link where you got this from? Thanks
I got mine from eBay, www.ebay.co.uk/itm/353294932449 unfortunately this seller doesn't have any left apparently, and despite listed as a UK seller, it definitely came from China.
@@marklewis5460 thank you!
Hey man, thanks for the video, i recently bought sonoff SNZB-04, it would takes 1 second to register a close state and probably 2 to 3 seconds to open state. Is the aqara sensor works like instantly? Using ZHA btw.
Thank you. From my experience, yes, the state change is instant with the Aqara sensors.
good info mate, didn't know the Sonoffs were unreliable, have these kept on performing well? any experience with switches? I was about to grab a couple of sonoff zigbee switches as well but now I'm doubting of their reliability
oh i see you only posted this a week ago, anyway you've got a new subscriber
@@licanueto thank you. So far they have been doing well. I'm not sure what was going on with the Sonoff ones but the Aqara ones seem to be working. I want to get my hands on some of the switches and the mini boxes
@@marklewis5460 just in case, did you make sure the magnet wasn't upside down? apparently with the magnet in the wrong position it works but not very well
I lined up the marker arrows that are on the units themselves so yeah it shouldn't have been. The one that would stop responding would work after a re-pairing but then stop shortly after. One drained the battery within about 48 hours. It's a shame as I like the Sonoff products and they cover a lot. But my personal experience is that the Aqara products are working incredibly well, and they are only slightly more expensive
