A similar attack is described in "A Complete System of Bayonet Exercise" by Richard F. Burton, Lieutenant Bombay Army. He describes grasping the butt with the right hand and throwing the weapon forward while pivoting on the left foot, and advancing the right foot, then reversing. This provides maximum reach.
