When I found out one of the two 1103 motors I had was having issues I ordered replacements. But at the same time I also order a pair of motors I spotted recently that I think may prove more suitable for the modified plane.
The new motors have stators (the wire-wound part of the motor) that are 1/2 of a millimeter in length but are 1mm larger in diameter. I feel that this may give them more torque and prop-turning leverage.
Let's test them and find out for sure.
I am going up from the stock 65mm (2-1/2 inch) props to 75mm (3 inch), so I have to make sure the motors are OK with them. I will be using a 1S-2S 7A brushless ESC for the tests. This ESC runs a bit hot under this set-up, but the test runs were brief. The plane will be using 2S-3S 12A ESC's so not an issue.
