Father Angelus Lives
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 23 เม.ย. 2020
Father Angelus Lives is dedicated to the memory and ministry of the late Fr. Angelus M. Shaughnessy, OFM Capuchin, November 16, 1929 - March 2, 2018, of the Capuchin Province of St. Augustine in Pittsburgh PA. In true Capuchin Franciscan tradition, Fr. Angelus devoted his 63 years of priestly life to preaching the Crib, the Cross and the Crucified. His message, simply stated, echoes John Henry Newman, “to live is to change and to be perfect is to have changed often.” He urges each listener to become a saint and offers practical guidance on how to attain saintly status. Father was known for his outstanding and inspirational homilies that often were a finely woven tapestry of literary references, historical citations, poetic commentary and dozens of stories sprinkled with a bit of Irish humor.

THE ONLY THING THAT IS DIVINE IN THIS WORLD: LOVE
There is only one thing in this world, which is divine. Our God speaks only one word. There is only one word in the vocabulary of God, and that word is love.
We are made in the image and likeness of God, and God is love. So, love is the purpose of our existence. We are made to love. Love is the only thing that can give meaning to our existence in this world and in the next
Our greatest need personally is to be loved. It is very difficult to love another without legitimate self-love, which is altogether different from selfishness.
When I love myself reasonably without violating the rights of others, I am really fulfilling the command of our God. Love your neighbor as you love yourself. We must love ourselves if we are going to be able to sustain our love for others. That is why prayer is so important. Prayer is allowing God…watching God love you and me.
No one ever loves enough, just as no one is ever humble enough. He who thinks he loves enough perishes. Our growth in love will be in perfect proportion to our humility, and we can grow in love right up until the moment we go into eternal life. Love is the only thing that perdures into the next world.
The Christian has a command to love. It is not a suggestion or a mild persuasion or recommendation. We must love if we are to be worthy of God. Who is love. There is no other way to be godly or God-like. Love is our vocation. Only on this will we be judged, so it is not where we breathe that we necessarily live. It is where we LOVE that we truly LIVE!

WHY STAY CATHOLIC?
มุมมอง 7014 วันที่ผ่านมา
Saint Francis of Assisi was always a man who was totally Catholic. Any important decision he ever made was in consultation with the Church of Rome and the reigning pontiffs at the time, Pope Innocent III and Pope Honorius III. This obedience to the Holy See has preserved the Franciscan Order to the present day. That is why Saint Francis would call the Holy Spirit the Minister General of the Ord...

Our God still comes to us in the form of bread because there is so much hunger in the world. He still comes in the form of sacrifice because there is so much suffering in the world. He still comes in the form of loving union, In uniting love, because there is so much loneliness in the world. He still comes with a quiet, peaceful, loving, almost imperceptible presence when there is so much noise...
NOT EVEN GOD COULD HAVE MADE HER ANY BETTER: THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY, MOTHER OF GOD
มุมมอง 7614 วันที่ผ่านมา
The Blessed Mother kept us forever from worshipping an abstract Christ. Mary put flesh and bone and blood on our God to make him a lovable, huggable, kissable, caressable, touchable, tangible, edible, eatable God in our flesh. We owe it all to Mary. We do well the things we prepare well for. When God the Father sent God the Son into this world, He was not too particular about His Son's food, cl...
WHY BAD THINGS HAPPEN TO GOOD PEOPLE: SUFFERING IN OUR LIVES
มุมมอง 6414 วันที่ผ่านมา
French Catholic novelist Léon Bloy 1846-1917 wrote, “There are places in the human heart that have no existence. Man moves into them suffering in order to give them existence.” It is suffering that expands the heart and gives it a greater capacity to love. Saint Francis of Assisi was never more the seraphic saint, that is, filled with love, than when he contemplated Jesus crucified. Some people...
