Ode to the s.v. "Preussen"
Watch this short documentary and indulge in an ode to the magnificient ultimate sailing cargo vessel "Preussen". Get an idea of the courageous people in the times in which she was commisioned and operated. This vessel marked the zenith of experience and ingenuity of thousands of years of transport accross the oceans by wind only. A little over a century later, we do not live in much different times in which the momentum is rising to transport our cargos accross the planet with at the least wind assisted propulsion.

Watch the ultimate schooner rigged sailing sloop "De Vijfde Meid" in action under (almost) full rig on the Frisian lakes in The Netherlands. This truly is sailing for the advanced 2.0 as it must have been in the great era of of Beken of Cowes!

The famous oceangoing tug "Oceanic" sets course in a serious storm to rescue a ship in distress...
Thank you for your nice comment after all these years! So far I can recall scale is 1:87 - Check: www.smc-hamburg.de/smc-flotte/schlepper/oceanic-steckbrief/ Good Luck and have fun! Frank
Excellent. I have just purchase the same model at an auction. It has not arrived yet, but I wonder, could you tell me the scale of the model. Many thanks and best wishes. Nige
Ohh now I read this only! to be honest I do not know if the real Oceanic had a bow thruster! Wish you good fun with your restauration! Best,
Sir, I was wondering. I thought I saw your vessel with a bow screw.... For as far as I know the original Oceanic did not have a bow screw. Am I wrong or has it been modified ? I have the Oceanic herited from my father who spend some time on it and he actually used it too, but not in a rough sea but a swimming pool where he has tugged a rowboat with two people in it. It was amazing. No one thought the model could accomplish that task. Cheers for your amazing work. I hope to restore my Oceanic in former glory and do a make over about the tug. I hope it will be done soon and that I can keep you updated about it Kind regards, Jacob MacHay
Love to watch the models in the open sea with swells....you did a outstanding job sir, thanks for sharing
Mr. Berrens! I saw the other video about the Preussen, I have to tell you the truth, you did a fascinating job! I have the same kit, just started to work on it. Would you be so kind and tell me, how exactly did you do sails curved? What material did you use? Thank you Sir!
Thank you for your kind words! The model I got did not have all sails, so I took an old white cotton bed sheet, soaked it in strong black tea for a night for the color. then draw with pencil all sails at scale including the lining. After cutiing I put them on a soft plastic PET 1.5 ltr lemonade bottle for the curve and soaked them with a brush in the regular construction glue. The sails dried in a good curve and theglue did not stic to the soft PET plastic bottle. Voila! See: th-cam.com/video/iojM12UZv1c/w-d-xo.html
