Description of the game:
So... lets say that Dune + Starcraft + Command & Conquer Renegade + Starship Troopers + Battlefield + Natural Selection 2 had a baby. That and more is SILICA, the dream game of developer (Martin "Dram" Melicharek), who on May, 2023 released in Early Access (therefore a work in progress) a cinematic-like experience of a game, seamlessly merging RTS (Real Time Strategy) with FPS (First Person Shooter) in an explosive and intense action-packed delivery. A game I have no doubt has tremendous potential.

    On the topic of wreckage. In the TA like games wreckage plays an important role, because you can reclaim them boosting your economy with it. Isn't a salvage unit that reclaims the wrecks a possibilty? And for the aliens a ressuraction unit perhaps.

      Well, this is just my opinion, but I think that the distances are so great that it may not be viable or add anything to gameplay. Plus, the AI would need to be able to work with such a "reclaim" functionality. What would happen if the AI "decides" to claim a wreckage that you actually find useful to take cover? I'm personally not a fan of the idea but I can see why it would work in other games. I think in Silica, vehicle wreckages will act more like temporary cover spots and even choke points if there's no much room to maneuver. Regarding Alien resurrection, I think it was mentioned something like a "bleed out" state, where, if the Alien was not blown to pieces and has 0 HP, it may linger incapacitated for a time and there could be a possibility for a revive. I think the same was mentioned for humans. But we have not heard about an Alien healer unit yet. Initially the Defiler was meant to heal but Dram thought it may look weird.

Lo pedís, lo tenés! ;) Ah, si, auto nodo va a estar increíble, va a ser una locura jugar con los aliens cuando lo tengan. El disparo del Behemot cambio porque se podía disparar estando oculto y no era divertido jugar contra el Behemot de esa manera. El disparo del escorpión y del shocker tmb cambio, antes no eran así. Ah, y a futuro el modelo del hunter actual será reutilizado como una nueva unidad tipo guardian de la Reina. Y habrá un nuevo modelo para el Hunter más tipo cangrejo y super rápido y posiblemente con habilidad de volverse casi invisible :)

      @@leocamachorodriguez3116 El modelo actual del Hunter será re utilizado y se convertirá en la unidad GUARDIAN, quizás lo hagan un poco más grande y más lento y posiblemente lo rediseñen un poquito y su ataque será diferente, no lo sabemos aún. Y habrá un nuevo modelo para el Hunter, tampoco sabemos que aspecto tendrá, pero sabemos que será super rápido y relativamente fácil de matar. Y si no me equivoco podrá hacerse casi invisible, similar al camuflaje óptico de PREDATOR.

      @@leocamachorodriguez3116 eventualmente si. No creo que para la 1.0 pero es muy probable q veamos Sílica para consola. Lo último q se había mencionado es que la nueva aplicación de networking de steam permite Cross play, o sea, jugar online entre consolas y PC, así que es muy probable que las consolas tengan Sílica en algún momento

      @@Peggasus_JASQ esaa! Bienvenido!! si, fíjate que he hecho algunos tutoriales y videos en español. Hay una lista. Pero haré más para mantenerlo actualizado. La colocación de estructuras humanas ha sido uno de los problemas más grandes de sílica, según el Dev. Esto lo van a mejorar. De momento, para colocar una estructura necesitas visión, ya sea de una unidad o estructura cercana. Aprietas C para abrir el menu de construcción, elegis entre los 4 tipos de estructuras (4 botoncitos a la derecha) elegis la estructura y la colocas. Con click derecho rotas, si el holograma aparece gris, estás fuera de rango, si es rojo, no es lugar válido, amarillo es q hay una unidad tuya en el camino, y azul es válido. Sugiero revisar el tutorial en español de modo estrategia humanos.

      Como andas Leo! Siiiii, no es un tutorial en si mismo, sino una misión para mostrar que tan épicas pueden ser las batallas, derechito a la acción. Y podes jugarlo de la manera que gustes. Para ser una primera versión me pareció muy buena! Me gustaría que sea un poquito más larga, quizás introduciendo el elemento estrategia con vista de Comandante.

      Exactamente. Siendo Comandante elegís cualquiera de tus unidades y podes tomar control directo apretando la F. Próximamente estoy sacando un tutorial en español sobre modo estrategia con los Aliens donde voy a estar mostrando como jugar. Y luego haré otro para los humanos. Mientras tanto, si querés, en el canal ya existen varios videos de partidas y también tutoriales en español de versiones anteriores, si, pero que te podrían servir.

      Cómo andas che! Gracias por pasar! Si, va a haber traducción para varios idiomas incluido el español, de toda la interfaz, unidades, subitulos, etc. Ahora si hablamos de las voces del narrador por ejemplo o de las unidades (que ni siquieran tienen voces), eso por el momento no. Pero sí todo lo que va a ser interfaz, menú, estructuras, unidades, etc.

    I like the intro, but I think it would be neat to have both since the first one just has a vibe. Perhaps the first one could be expanded to serve as the credits of a campaign to go over the course of the history, or competing narratives between Sol and Centauri. One is more clinical, more matter-of-fact, while the other is this impassioned speech. As for the mission here, I like it less. You drop down, defend the base, and immediately have your accomplishment undercut by destroying the base yourself as the aliens you just fought off. Also not sure how good it is for an introduction to give FPS players the impression that they alone can turn the tide, leaving out the RTS side entirely. If I were to change it, rather than taking command of the aliens, it would be gaining RTS contol of the human base (perhaps with a yes/no to stay in FPS) where you then have to strike the aliens in a counter attack. And also fine-tune it so that the damage buff is unnecessary and that, combined with the counter attack change, the base will most likely survive while the player's purpose is to prevent the loss of human units so that time does not need to be wasted replenishing. Perhaps compensate for the AI by making it so that commanders cannot act beyond a boundry outside of certain time intervals.

      Yea, the previous intro will surely make a come back in some way with in-game graphics. Regarding the mission, well, it is meant to be an introduction without too many details. It is like the intro scene of an action movie that starts with a bang and then slows down. At least that's what I think the goal was here. Dram did mentioned that the RTS aspect was missing, there was not much time because Bohemia anniversary was around the corner. But I wouldn't be surprised if RTS view is introduced either here or on another mission. It would be cool if the camera zooms out of your soldier and goes seamlessly to RTS to present it!

      @LuchoGamingLB I can understand that it isn't meant to be complex, but at this point it seems less like an introduction and more like a gameplay trailer. It introduces that battles can be hectic and you can play as both sides, but you're thrown so quickly into the thick of it with a damage buff that the "how" for any of it is still ambiguous. Amending my changes to keep with the core premise, it would be starting as one of many possible roles and being given a specific objective unique to each in the same scenario, thus emphasizing that you can play in many ways and each of those ways has a different purpose that contributes to victory.

      @@vadandrumist1670 Definitively it is quick mission and a chaotic one at that! :D Not really meant to be a tutorial per se rather a taste of what to expect and straight to action. Surely we'll see proper onboarding/tutorial missions for individual units and their strenghts and weaknesses in different scenarios. But who knows! It is the first iteration of this mission afterall. I think it achieves its purpose, blowing shit up! XD

    Interesting to see how FPS differs in solo compared to multiplayer, though I feel like there needs to be something to balance out the player's advantages. Would want to see a full game on a larger map so that there's more of a chance for it to expand into a bigger battle. Seeing how to play as or fight against the aliens will also be interesting as a hive mind is simply best expressed by AI.

      Hey man thanks for the comment! Yea, what you say is true. It is much more chaotic in Multiplayer but I wanted to do it this way for teaching purposes. The main advantage AI has over players is that they are very accurate but that's about it. Overall AI is really dumb right now and a human player can single handedly win a match, AI units do not work together at the moment and they path in a line towards the slaughter house basically. When AI gets implemented it will be much more difficult for sure.

      @LuchoGamingLB Those are indeed problems that need to be fixed. For me the biggest one will be for the AI to not have infantry running around in the open. Watching the latest Lycan video showed the AI can (albeit clumsily) give the player an escort, so maybe a similar system can be rough-patched to AI units to grant a modicum of unit grouping. One thing that might be worthwhile showing would be using commands to spawn a second headquarters a ways away for each faction, essentially simulating a 2v2/3v3, which may cause proper fronts to form on the battlefield.

      @@vadandrumist1670 Unfortunately it would not work because right now there are only 3 factions, 4 if you consider the Wildlife. But we only have SOL, Centauri and Aliens. If you spawn an HQ it would only be SOL or Centauri. You could also join team wildlife by lowering console, typing cheats and then "team wildlife" without the quotes and give them an HQ. But even if Wildlife faction has an HQ, the RTS AI would not do anything because it is not programmed to it. The battlefront issues, which basically is, there are TOO many and that dilutes the fights all over in an unsatisfyingly manner. That's why Territory Control plus build are around HQ only will create more discreet bases, therefore more packed and also will make the rest of the map worth fighting for, adding another winning condition, instead of always HQ vs HQ. Also, it is also planned to have multiple commanders in RTS view. That means a "main" commander and sub officers in RTS. The main commander will be able to grant what kind of permits the sub officers will have, for example, you could grant them structure building permits only but not direct control of the units and whatever the RTS Commander can do. Plus buying units and vehicles and order them around in FPS Squad command and be able to make them path somewhere, or cover or patrol, follow and guard, etc. is planned.

      @LuchoGamingLB I think you misunderstood what I meant by "simulate a 2v2/3v3". I do think that the second and possibly third headquarters for each faction would still be run by the same commanders and the same resources, but the key difference is that it would allow the commander to begin building bases, harvesting resources, and producing units in those locations. The AI currently marches units in an ant line because the enemies are being produced and attacking from at most two directions. Having multiple bases would ramp up escalation and could encourage different pathing that results in a more dynamic battlefield for the FPS player to play in. As for the topic of battlefronts, I would agree that the current game lacks them almost entirely. It's almost all skirmishes, and this is primarily due to a lack of survivability. Battle lines are formed due to cover for infantry and artillery holding back vehicles, and it requires the sides to care about their units. Even in pure RTS with hundreds of units battlelines rarely form because it's simply a matter of destroy or be destroyed; winning the battle can be done by any means necessary when you don't have to worry about losing the war. In regards to fixing the low-energy of combat I could only suggest making it so armies are produced quicker, sturdy-yet-cheap structures can be built that provide no function other than to provide protection to units and wall up choke points, and individual units being given enough independence to know when to try and stay out of the sights of a tank.

      @@KinMojamuto son partidas de estrategia al estilo Command & Conquer o Starcraft dónde tenés un comandante o vos podés ser el comandante y controlas todas las unidades desde arriba o tomas control directo. Pero aún al aspecto de RTS le faltan muchas cosas, como reparar o vender estructuras y tmb falta una facción entera, super armas, puntos de control de territorio, control de escuadrones en FPS y más cosas. La inteligencia artificial tmb es muy básica de momento pero le están metiendo mucho amor al juego. Yo estoy súper enganchado jeje :)

    1:57:35 truly a Doom Guy of Starship Troopers P.S. i feel like Goliaths needs buffing. They're very slow + melee only, and that thing alone renders them obsolete against many human vehicles and ranged weapons. Either they should make them faster, add some kind of ranged support attack or raise their HP to truly immeasurable degree so they could just tank everything and the human team should actually work together in order to just bring them down.

      Well, lets see what happens when unit AI gets implemented. Right now it is super basic. hehe Regarding the Goliath, I think it is in a good place right now tbh. We'll see. By rule, no unit, neither Human or Alien should be "good against everything", that's why the Siege tank does not have a turret or something similar to deal with small and fast enemies up close. The Goliath, if used right, and specially if not alone, can wreak a lot of havoc on the enemy lines. Also, feel free to share the feedback on the Silica Discord too! :)

    I wander if they will add something like a flying troop transports for both factions. A big, fast midgame units with one weak semi-obsolete melee, solid hp and ability to accept a boarding teammates and carry them wherever needed fast. Those transports should also be able to carry tanks/behemoths one by one to help them get to the frontline faster and improve on the teamwork aspect. Also it will highlight the usability of anti-air weaponry, 'cause those flying carriers won't be able to deliver their cargo if the path is blocked by turrets.

      Actually yes, Dram will rework the dropship unit to have an open rear so infantry can shoot with its own weapon from the back. The same concept will be applied for a "massive massive ship with an open rear" for vehicle transport. Spawn mechanics will algo get reworked. Tunnel system for Aliens, and spawning in orbit for humans and teleport from there towards a barrack or other human structures. We still do not know how it will get implemented but it should serve to traverse the terrain more easily.

      Well, you're not wrong :P The game is called Silica, it is in Early Access and merges RTS with FPS and is very inspired in Dune, Natural Selection, Command & Conquer, Starcraft, Battlefield, etc.
