Carcass goes back to the mid 80's, and at that time they were flying the flag of Grindcore and the more specific niche Gore Grind. Their guitarist Bill Steer was in Napalm Death which is considered by many to be the first "Death Metal/Grindcore band." It was this album of theirs where they went way more melodic death metal, and really became known for influencing those types of bands that came later. Heartwork's final jam Death Certificate is my personal favorite Carcass tune, but this entire album changed the death metal scene entirely. Carcass, Death, and Cannibal Corpse were really 3 different subgenres of death metal, and those branches kept branching off even more. I would say the roots of this tree would be Black Sabbath, and the main trunk tends to be Venom for many of these early death metal acts.

I'm glad you're reacting to this album; it's one of my favorites! By the way, this song puts me in a trance because the ending (like many of the songs on this album) goes on and on and on, almost as if he didn't want this dream he was having to end.

Yes its a song about putting us in boxes & labeling us and oppression.. The struggles of the system.. AIC channels alot of that in their music

Hi, from Seattle! The song was actually about how kid gang-bangers were turning Seattle into a war zone. Kids were dying younger and younger and in appalling numbers. At the time, Seattle got taken over by the Crips and the Bloods. Pretty nasty.

Make sure u put Stone Temple Pilots Core album(1992) on the list. They are not technically a grunge band, they just got categorized due to the heaviness of this album. Their other albums are Stylistically and vocally different due to Scott Weiland not wanting the band to be labeled and he was plagued by heroin addiction which kinda led him to sound different on every album
