Confrontation between Governor and elected members in remote St Helena, about Covid-19 measures
Governor Dr Philip Rushbrook, appointed to the island by the UK Government, this morning called three elected members a “disgrace” when he stopped his car on the way to the airport Dec. 2 in order to confront protestors.
About 20 people, including councillors Jeffrey Ellick, Christine Scipio and Gavin Ellick, had gathered on the road to the St Helena Airport early yesterday morning, wearing masks and carrying banners.
The group was demonstrating to the Governor (who departed to the UK on today’s flight) their dissatisfaction about changes in quarantine measures and a lack of transparency in Covid-19 decision-making.
St Helena is currently Covid-free and requires 14-day mandatory quarantine at the custom-renovated Bradley’s Camp for all arrivals, with a few exceptions.
However, recent government decisions - first, a closed-doors decision to exempt FCDO officials from Bradley’s, then an announcement that from January home isolation (not Bradley’s) would be the main method of 14-day quarantine - has resulted in opposition from some members of Legislative Council and the public.

Rediscovery of endemic, endangered St Helena Redwood
มุมมอง 1.3K3 ปีที่แล้ว
The remote St Helena Island is a tiny landmass which, within its 47sq. miles, houses more endemic biodiversity than the whole of the rest of the UK and its Overseas Territories. And today, thanks to St Helenian Norman Williams, the St Helena Redwood remains part of that biodiversity. Norman rediscovered the endemic plant in the 1950s - prior to then, it was thought to be Extinct. Today, it is l...

This was the first UNSUCCCESSFUL commercial route to the island. The flight from the video was a TEST FLIGHT, and never was performed with regular passengers. This is because this airplane would not do any VIABLE commercial route to the Island at full capacity with all safety requirements at that time. Nowadays, the only regular commercial route with passengers is performed by a brazilian airplane, the Embraer E190, the only homologated to do so until now at full capacity (98 passengers). The route is operated in regular basis by South African company AirLink, from/to Johanesburg.

Fascinating yet sad to see as the natives of the island are virtually entirely made up of descendants of English soldiers who r aped African (plus some Indian) slaves in the late 18th century hence the linage of multiple generations of mixed race ppl. R *pe of slaves was not uncommon in the new world but unlike the USA, Caribbean or South America with St helanas tiny population you can easily trace their family tree back to the English solider or settler. Thats Ironic as St Helena is still a UK colony held onto by the British who throw money at the island because it is a great strategic south Atlantic outpost if there is an outbreak of war.

The virus will make its way through the island anyway. It’s inevitable. What’s the difference if people quarantine at home or another building. You can’t stop it unless you hide yourself alone in a room with no human contact. Besides your own immune system is the best form of defense. Fauci is a liar. The governments have totally blown this whole thing out of proportion. Lied about number deaths, attributing deaths to Covid when there were many comorbidities involved and on and on. Bunch of liars. People terrified running around like it’s the Black Plague hiding. Just live your life and stop whining.
