Definitely no art assets in this one, the art style looks exactly like their previous game, except translated to the 3D plane.
That's good to hear. The game was solid so I was leaning on that direction but it's good to get confirmation
I have to think that Shockwave on Hookblade has a lot of synergy with how you want to play that weapon anyway. It might be the second best target for it after Kunai
The only issue is the shock order can sometimes break the chain so you have to account for it.

This was fun to watch, I just recently started playing too, and I now fully understand the blunders of taking 1 or 2 damage here n there, have yet to beat the shogun, but watching your vids gives me hope to beat him soon!

I like how this game does not feel turn based, despite being turn based. It is all so snappy.
They could make a harder time based turn. Like, if you do nothing in some seconds, they automatically put the character on wait position. Some seconds to ve pretty hard.
Anyone noticed that taking 0 damage counts as a hit? 32:00 you can clearly see when he got hit by 0 damage but the hit counter went up from 7 to 8
Yea unfortunately the game counts it as a hit which kinda sucks. The only plus is it works for you as well for breaking shields

Just a heads up, I am terrible at slay the spire highest I have gotten is ascension 8. I would love to get some practice for the sequel though. Frostprime is a great spire player if you want to watch someone now
Hey just wanted to say I appreciate your vids covering this game. They have made me play better for sure! Do you have any tips on decreasing run times? I find all my runs are like 40 mins to an hour and I want to get all the stamps lol. Also was wondering if you had any advice on when to focus on cooldown vs damage on tiles. Thanks I am always happy when ppl like my content. For faster run times outside of running on a lower day my only though is playing fast and having a really good build. The issue with the latter is you will make way more mistakes and Day 7 is super punishing so even a couple slip ups can cook a run.

Great run. I kept expecting Shockwave/Monomancer to be the play with Kunai off the start. Combo Cooldown ended up being a non factor with your Cooldowns so low.
Combo cooldown is one of those things that can lose value as you reduce cooldown but not having it can also feel bad early.
I also was pretty disapointed about the shockwave nagiboku. The thing is the enemies get attacked one after the other, starting from behind the player, so after the first one gets killed the next one is alone and doesn't get the shockwave, making it a normal hit that cannot kill. This is however not the case when there are other enemies behind them. That's really not intuitive, the shockwave should probably get applied after the whole attack.
Yea the order of operations can work in your favor or against. I think poison might be the best modifier for it since it has less math involved.
BRUTAL. Tremendous run though. 22 damage is god status
36:55 the 22 hit has to be the highest I’ve seen but if I understand right he had curse, you got the movement +3 dmg buff from your perk, and then central dominion for the +1, and +1 from close combat… for 11 damage in your 6 damage hook blade… holy smokes…

So not only did you complete the ultimate tile, blitz and trusty weapons quests in a single run, you also did it on day 7, and got two other stamps on top of it... You really weren't joking about calling yourself Shogun Expert!

Watching that ending broke my heart... the game was giving it to you at every opportunity, i think this is the 1st of your videos on this game that i've seen you get hit 10+ times, and it was painful to watch the game do that to you
Yea that run hurt, some bad spawns and some bad choices
If I recall correctly the corrupted soul only cancels the second tainted triad if there are no more enemies on the field so it can summon more, so if you want to attack it again you might want to keep an enemy that you can easily kill afterwards.
That makes a lot of sense ill have to test that with one of the squishy enemies on my next run

"Okay we are gonna stop throwing now" Those were some olympic class ones back to back x) Also thanks for the Shockwave test on the extended Swirl that can't kill (I keep forgetting its name). I'll look through the footage more carefully to see if I can figure out the damage rules here. 44:36 implies that the enemy nearest to you gets hit, Shock triggers and kills 1st enemy, 2nd enemy gets hit, Shock doesn't trigger 44:16 shows that even more as Shock triggers double damage from Curse before the damage from the tile hits. Makes sense now why sometimes enemies didn't die when I thought they should when I got that combo. Thanks a lot! :)
It feels like a fun combo for it. Poison might still be the best combo for it though
Shield would not work since you only have 2 HP. The second strike would’ve killed you anyway. Only chance was using the dice to mirror + backsmoke

This has to be the worst, most scuffed run I've ever seen! I loved it :D To conclude: Thorns deals its damage to both tiles next to it (without friendly fire ofc) the moment it dies, which is why we need 0 damage punch skills to make it the most scuffed projectile in the game. If you need a break from Thorns, I recently had a run with the tile that can't kill and Shockwave on it. It behaves kinda in a weird way I haven't been able to fully figure out in that run. Sometimes it killed enemies and sometimes it didn't. I don't record my runs and therefor can't watch back as to when it kills and when it doesn't, so can you maybe help me out here?
I think I would have to do a modded run and test all the interactions. Honestly it just feels like a bad move that needs to much work around to be good
The damage increase skills/ curses on kunai is just incredible, since it’s damage increase on EACH thrown kunai, and with base damage increase on the weapon you throw MORE kunai!!
Kunai is so amazing, it does so well with all the buffs and I love it

It's good, but I try to look at it based on how much it can carry a run alone. It's really good, especially for kiting bosses but there are better options

I think Iron Skin should have a tier of its own with how bad it is x) Surprised to see Fortress so low tbh. In the no hit runs it is probably the best skill one can get and even on day 7 its downsides only come into play if you get hit twice, which I usually don‘t unless I messed my build up or am fighting a harder boss. Also have to disagree on the placement of Combo recharge hand and combo recharge tiles used to perform combo kills. I just find it a lot easier to combo with 1 really strong skill and by the time combo recharge hand triggers, my hand is usually recharged anyway. Could probably experiment with it more and build around it, but idk the 2 super strong tiles requirement to make the best use out of it is turning me off
If ironskin could reduce a 1dmg to a 0 it would be way better. -3 HP in exchange for immunity to dash and laser still means unless the character gets healthy, they get one shot by any 2 dmg attack if they’re on day6-7
Iron skin could be so good, its like a worse version of torri gate from slay the spire. Fortress is good but I don't like giving up health. Since most hits are around 2 to 3 damage I'd rather take the hit and heal. I love combos synergies so I am 100% bias on the recharge, I like clearing the screen as often as possible since it helps me avoid mistakes.
I feel like shadow is super unique, but It can rarely be used for his advantage. is decks are bad, his special skill is mid, overall wasted character imo I can believe you put fortress in D tier tho, extremely good skill
If the shadow only had the move through enemies' ability and not the dash movement, they would be 100% better. Don't worry I ranked it low but it will somehow make me regret it similar to how I used to hate perfected strike
Oh wow between the video and comments I wasn't expecting how different some of the opinions on some of the tiles are. I value combo way way high so multi-hit is automatically higher tier for me (with high damage it's more turn-efficient) vs something like basic katana. Great video, glad to see it!

@@GuntherKnowsGames i think part of it will also depend on which character youre using since it could potentially sync with your signature skill
actually, 9:20 thorns CAN deal bonus damage if they are pushed into an enemy, but they have to be destroyed by the colliding with the enemy, not the attack which knocked them into it, so 0 damage knockback attacks, like ki push or ronin's special move can work with it really well
actually, I have no real idea why this happens and haven't looked into it since finding out, but you can proc the thorns damage with 1 dmg dragon punch from "point blank", but if the thorns travel over an empty tile, then they don't proc their damage.

Mostly agree with your placement of tiles. Here are some of my thoughts (gotten all stamps and have a playtime of ~50h as a reference point): 1. Thorns sadly feels like a half baked great concept. 2. Katana I feel like is the tile placement I fundamentally disagree with most. I usually value damage way more than Cooldown and Katana is heavily relying on damage upgrades that I want to give to my more range focused weapons, since all the dangerous enemies have ranged attacks. I'd probably place it in like B tier. Given the choice I pick Tetsubo every time since you can just pick it and it immediately starts performing just from its base damage with no upgrades required. Maybe I have to play with it more though since it's basically Swirl in most situations and I do generally like Swirl. 3. Would probably put Meteor Hammer in A just because it has a huge range, selfcombo potential and because the chain master is an absolute unit with it. 4. Not really a fan of most free to play tiles (except Curse because that one is awesome), since they tend to clog my attacking order without providing meaningful benefits, which means you only have 2 tiles left you can perform combos with. Out of all of them I'd say I like Signature move and Dash Forward the least. Center of Dominion can at least be a fun and sometimes really powerful strategy and characters like the Chain master and Jujitsuka prefer not to be stuck at the complete edge of the map. 5. I'd probably put the Shadow Dashes in D tbh. They are so hard to use effectively and are outclassed in almost any situation by the regular dash which is already heavily outclassed by smoke bomb as defensive utility. Even when going for a dedicated backstab build you have the problem of enemies just being at the edge of the map and therefor being immune. Sadly not a fan of it. 6. I'd like to make a case for shuriken being in C and not D simply because it is an ok candidate for investment due to infinite range. Yeah it is outclassed by almost any other ranged tile but it still is a noticable benefit the tile has over 1 range tiles like Katana.
Using shuriken more often it isn't bad I just go by which moves I would prefer. I will say D is kinda low compared to the other D tiers. Katana grew on me I mainly like it for quick burst of damage without having to wait. Tetsubo is really solid but the cooldown always makes me think I will miss out on killing an enemy since its on cooldown. I think the red titles are just good standard wise since they can be a quick adjustment to save yourself. Really love the input getting solid reasons on why to use some tiles makes me break out of my comfort zone.
What I really like about Bo is it can bail you out for the majority of enemies.
The only thing that stomps it from being perfect are the immovable enemies but it is a a really solid move
2:25 bo is really good with sai I personally prefer it over knockback because they can still work well in small arena / enemies bunched up Meteor hammer is basically swirl+ 3 tile reach is really good Back smoke also works well with ronin because he has the spear&push I really don’t like lightning mainly because the lack of control as a ranged option. I’d rather pump dmg into Shuriken / arrow. Backstab is really dependent on the character. Chainmaster & Wanderer are good with these since they can put enemies behind them easily. Ronin & Shadow a bit jank and situational. Jiujutsuka is awkward.
I think I mainly love Sai for the chunks of damage you can put out, hammer is way more versatile but with the right damage sai just clears. I do agree that some of the tiles can be very character dependent since they can make up for character weaknesses and strengths
