Awesome, I never tied any of these!
I love the old school. I used to tie mine the same way and this gives me the urge to spin more.
Awesome!! Me too! The old school methods Rock!! Thank you for watching.
Sweet tie Joe! Love that fly on the Madison, Smith River (Montana) and the LeTort Run. Thanks!
Thank you Doug! Yeah, all great Rivers and streams. I love fishing the Madison...The Letort hopper is a great hopper pattern that isn't to difficult to tie. Thank you so much for watching.
Can’t wait for the warm weather to use the Latort Hopper. Nice pattern.
LOL. I hear you Ray! Thank you for Watching!
Nice fly, for me a new pattern between a muddler minnow and an caddis fly😉
Thanks! Yeah, very true! Thank you for Watching.
I just love the original flies with hair and fur.
Me too! Feathers, Fur and Hair. Thank you for watching!
Nothing like a Caddis emerger.
Ray, this pattern works wonders! Thanks for watching.
Was that Sideling hackle or Sideling hill hackle?
So sorry George! " Sideling Hill Hackle". Great Stuff! Thanks for watching.
THAT is a nice fly! I will enjoy tying it for sure. Appreciate the tip on the "neck" supplier Joe!
It works well Doug! Thank you so much for watching!

@ all is well, thanks, I like your manner of tying 👍🏻
Thank you! More videos coming your way!!
@@JoeAckoureyFlyFishingthanks, I look forward for it.😊
Awesome!
I have tied something very similar with a dubbed abdomen of chocolate brown/orange rabbit fur mix. They remind me of ants I used to find at the farm. I've had good luck with size 16s.
Hi James, I've seen several different colors of ants in all different sizes too. Like you, I always try to duplicate the colors and sizes that I see on the streams that I fish. It makes a big difference. Thank you so much for watching my channel and please subscribe. Tight Lines!! Joe Ackourey
Hi Joe. Thank you for the video. I recently came across your channel. I like your teaching style. I'm new to fly tying and look forward to tying a black ant. Tight lines.
Awesome! I'm glad you are enjoying my channel. Take one step at a time and keep it simple. Thank you for subscribing!!
Very nice pattern
Thank you Ed! its a deadly pattern too! thank you for Watching!
As an avid flyangler flytler professional fly tier, guide, lecturer and author of flytying/fishing books for over 50 years i love your online program. I am always looking for different tying styles. You are a real professional. Your attitude and ways of descriibing the prosess is awsome. A tip i learn my pupils when teaching traditional flytying for beginners and experient as well, is to drop a small dab of sement at the wing base so that the wings keep their shape even after some use. Thank yoy for an exellent and informative programs. PS. Here in Norway everything flyfishing is all about the new things available. I am teaching the classics as well as the "new ones" The classics are the base of everything classic in every flytyin. Classic salmonflies vise verca. Keep on with your great work Joe. Best regards from Vidar Numme. Norway
Thank you so much for the kind words Vidar! I appreciate you for watching my channel. Tight Lines!! Joe
Super tie thanks
Awesome! I'm glad you enjoyed this tie. Thank you for watching!!
Well it’s 2am, just let the dogs out ( in case someone asks) turned on TH-cam and saw this video. having tied for years I thought , here we go another ya who, but gave it a chance. I must say, I was very impressed! I like how you didn’t fill the whole video looking at you, your background and tying area- while leaving a hard to view look at the actual fly. Very well done sir! Extremely easy to follow! Yes I let dogs back in, and yes I DID subscribe. Thank you, I’ll be checking out your other videos in future.
That's Awesome!!! I appreciate your feedback. Thank you so much for watching.
Great tie for a fly classic.
Thanks Ray!
Very nice fly,I’ve never used deer hair for spinner wings but will now give it a try. Also, missed your presence at the Somreset fly tying show.
Hey Chaz! Its a great pattern for sure! I'm sorry I didn't attend this year. I have a lot of irons in the fire at the moment. Thanks for watching!
Good looking fly pattern Joe. Thanks for the lesson.
Your Welcome! It really works well during this spinner fall. Thanks so much for watching!!
Great pattern Joe. Can’t wait for the warm Spring nights to fish the spinner.
Thanks Ray! Yeah Me too! Thanks for your support.
Thanks for the videos Joe. I hope to see you at the symposium!
Hey Steve. I'm not going to make it this year. Hope to make the Edison and Lancaster shows. Thanks for watching!
Wow really nice one thank you
Thanks @chili! Don't forget to subscribe! Tight Lines! ~Joe
The first fly I caught a trout on at Bowman's fly strech. A old timer next to me gave me one. Thanks for the memory.
That's Awesome! I was just there about a week ago. That's where I caught my first trout. Thank you for watching!
Parr for the course, another great presentation Only problem, you just make it look so easy.
Glad you enjoyed it Chaz!
Joe. What you have tied there is a nymph made out of pheasant tail, not a classic pheasant tail nymph. Mr Sawyer would not recognise this as a pheasant tail nymph. Great tie and I'm sure it works well, but can we please stop this bastardisation of classic flies. Sawyers Pheasant tail is the original and the classic.
Agree, I'm a flytyer of over 40 years and the Original Sawyer pattern called for copper wire and pheasant tail only. A nice adaptation for sure, but certainly not the original. Been catching trout in NZ on the original tye for decades and is my go to nymph on both rivers and lakes.
@nickwalker7287 Thank you for taking the time to comment.. You know as I'm getting into the groove of making these videos, it sometimes slips my mind as I comfortably refer to things as I would in conversation. I appreciate you sharing your thoughts with me on what I quoted regarding the "classic" term, as I often refer to that being that its a classic to me given the number of years I have been working with it (over 55 years). I'll certainly be thinking of you as I continue to film more of these videos in the near future. Forewarning however, I may have slipped a few more "classics" into some of the upcoming videos I already recorded. Thanks for watching! Tight Lines! ~ Joe
@nigelreid9089 Thanks for taking the time to watch my content and engage in the conversation! I appreciate all comments! As mentioned in my response to @nickwalker7287, I'll be keeping this in mind as I film more of my Fly of the Week videos. If you're not already subscribed, please do so, I appreciate it! Tight Lines! ~ Joe
The infamous pheasant tail. Great job Joe.
Great Pattern...Thank you Ray!
That looks great!
Thanks! Thanks for your support!
Nice job Joe! Great classic Fly.
Thanks Todd! Absolutely on of the best nymphs to have in your arsenal.
An absolute must for every trout box.
I absolutely agree! Thanks for watching!
Gidday Joe. Great tutorial. Thanks.
Thank you! Thanks for watching!
Damn, I would eat that. :)
Lol ! How about it! Thank you for your support.
Really nice tie fly and as usual explanation. Thanks so much
Thank you for your continued support!
I've always used guard hairs for the tail. Going to have to give those PT fibers a try.
Awesome! PT fibers give it a nice touch. Thank you for watching.
Great pattern especially in fast water. A basic…
Absolutely Ray! Thank you for Watching!!
Nice, Joe. Any streamer box that doesn't have Buggers in black, olive and white is definitely disadvantaged.
Yeah! A great Pattern For Sure!! Thank you for Watching!
Nice one thank you
You Bet! Thanks for watching and Give This One A TRY!!
Nice job! It's not as productive for me as the black-nosed dace, but darn close!
Two very effective patterns for sure!! Thank you for Watching!!
Great sulphur pattern for the most intense hatch of the season.
Works Great! Give it a shot! Thanks for watching Ray!
Great explanation. I've seen guys really butcher those wings.
Thank you, and thanks for Watching!
Really like that fly Joe! Great job
Thank you! Its a great emerger pattern that works. Thanks for watching.
Nice fly. Wish all the fly tying videos that show emergers or floating fly patterns dropped them into a glass of water to prove it floats.
Thank you! I will take that as a request and try to fit this within my upcoming dry fly/emerger video. Thank you so much for watching.
@@JoeAckoureyFlyFishing No probs fella. 👍
Thanks!
Nice tie fly and instruction thank you.
Thank you for your continues support.
Nice tie, Joe.
Thank you Sir! Thank you for Watching!!
Why don't you wrap the pheasant tail fibers around your thread as you wind the body. That reinforces the fragile pheasant tail fibers with a tread core and gets your working thread out of the way so you can use the rotary function of your vise and watch the body taper, overlap and spacing from all sides.
You can. I think that's another great way to tie this fly.
