A lot of adults worry that kids will be silly with knives and not pay attention… but kids don’t LIKE to get hurt! Most kids are pretty careful AS LONG AS we help them understand the risks. Rather than avoiding risks at all costs, it is OUR responsibility as parents and forest school teachers to teach kids how to keep themselves safe. This video is intended for PARENTS and FOREST SCHOOL TEACHERS...

Love how this video combines practical outdoor skills with hands-on learning! If you're looking to optimize your TH-cam channel for educational content like this, Let's make your videos stand out!
Thank you for sharing. This is exactly what I was dreaming about when I was a kid… ❣️😅
Looks really easy method to follow. Clear steps to follow. Thank you. I made few after watching this video n I got it the first attempt.
Glad it helped!
The fireflies I had on my land in the Alps showed a detectable bias toward the common ivy edge with its trimmings and relative compost. So, it may help to observe your own population.
no till soil, native wildflowers. PS that's a nice looking dog too
My yard looks much like Bonita's. I think it takes a lot more intentional work to maintain a 'wild mess' yard than it does swaths of dead zone kentucky bluegrass. My neighbors all hate my yard, but I think they're just jealous! One woman sent her husband over to ask why I have butterflies when no one else does. I love the forest, so I've tried to mimic it in my front yard with all of the different layers. I also leave dead logs lying around for the lightning bugs. Someone once told me that you have to create the life you want to live. I want to live surrounded by trees, flowers, birds, butterflies & lightning bugs ❤
I'm from India.. I have grown up seeing so many fire flies in my garden to fields..but day by day they are becoming rare.. It's so heartbreaking.. I'm living in a town where no garden is found.. I've a big tarrace where I can make such garden.. Help me to do so
Thankyou I am excited to try this!
Addiction to pot is no laughing matter
❤❤❤❤ oh how happy you have made me!!! I’m gonna be a pot making fool. I’ve got this bounty of newspaper and was wondering what besides mulch could I use it for. I tried the other ones and I thought I was gonna have an anxiety attack. Your video saved the day.
So nicd to see Buster the Adventure Cat in a video! We were also super impressed with Yuki's tree carrying skills... way to go Yuki!
Very cool ideas!
How many pieces of newspaper do you put together (since it's thinner than regular paper, I think)? Still 2 pieces? Great tutorial - thanks!
We often use only one, but give both options a try and see what you prefer!
Love it❣️Thank you Brit, Akira and Aoi❣️
What a pleasant field trip
cant believe this kind of content fell off the chart. i greatly appreciate it though, since i get to see things i cant personally get to
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for sharing your feedback!
thank you very much for sharing .its beautiful
Glad you enjoyed it!😊
How trendy that crows speak with an accent there!
Right... the Shizuoka crows may sound like they have a different accent to my ear that is used to the crows here, but they speak normally to all the crows there...they would probably say that the crows here are the ones with the accent!😅😆
Fascinating, awesome and kinda creepy!!
I love that you can use regular 8.5 x 11 sheets. Thank you
Nett aber viel zu aufwändig und kompliziert
I think it may appear more complicated because she's really taking her time explaining what she's doing. But I find with this kind of origami, once you do a couple of them in that slow more painstaking way, it becomes more second nature and goes relatively quickly. If you disagree, though, look around for the kind that people make around jars with newspaper. It's not origami and is super quick and easy.
Thank you
Very cool! I've been wanting to do this. Side question though, can you link your stove thingy? I think I need one.
I wish I could! It was a limited edition stove from the company Biolite. I'll email them and ask if they plan to carry them again anytime soon (feel free to do the same, if enough people ask maybe they'll bring them back!) We have a few of their products, but this little rocket stove is the best we've tried
How long does the dye last? (Assuming this is measured in number of normal laundry wash cycles)
It's our first time, so not 100% sure! The internet says it should last a while but might need to be redone at some point. Research also said we wouldn't need to apply anything after the color to help it stick because of the natural tannins, but I think next time we'll try vinegar and other mordants to see if we can make the color even darker in the final product
You gave a chance to that bird to be reborn as a compassionate living being! -- I AM ALSO WONDERING HOW THEY CAN FLY SO FAR SOUTH WHILE THEY NEED TO FEED THEMSELVES EVERY 15 MINUTES.
Fabulous and informative
So glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for the great content!!! ❤❤❤
You're so welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed it
I'm also in eastern ontario and found this video looking them up after seeing them in my backyard in the evening while I was letting out my dog. So many of them! And since they flash as the sun is setting you can still see them without their light and I caught one which was pretty easy because they are slow flyers. Unfortunately I'm pretty sure they realize their flashes would be wasted while sitting in a bottle so they just never did so I released him.
Too long of an intro felt like I was reading the life story before a recipe of a grilled salmon
thanks for the feedback!
Worms are no longer present many places to keep walking into bodies of water, not only when it's raining. They used to feed the food chains of the bodies of water no longer with those life forms tied to that reason; the loss of the worms. And so the birds eat other, etc..
I haven't seen fireflies since I was a kid in Japan in the '50's. We used to catch them and put them in jars but I don't remember releasing them. Kids are heartless. I was hoping to see them when I visited my brother in Ohio during couple of summers but never did. They're so magical.
I remember doing the same but I let them go after a few nights to have double for the big release.
Great video. Thank you ❤
It’s a great concise teaching video. I love Bonita and Sebastian for their contribution to the environment. I will look for the book. Light pollution and squeaky clean lawns doesn’t make our neighbourhood eco friendly. I’m trying to get my city to turn off lights that are on all night close to my pollinator community garden. Do you have any links or references that I can give to the city about lights?
Growth is not neat
How am I only just watching this now?!? Loved this so much, i had a huge smile on my face the whole time. I can't believe you managed to get Dude's dance on camera... he's got MOVES!
Therapeutic.
Cute chicks
I'm so curious about the fireflies + maple syrup link too! I hope you manage to learn more about that connection. I love how clearly you show how microclimates can affect the sap run. And the heat camera is such a cool thing to add to your toolbox!
Enjoyed the casual format. I had no idea about the subtle hint fallen trees left behind!
Down in Louisiana, at least in my little corner, we get fireflies as early as April
Wow! Yes, I expect your April weather is much like our late-May or early-June weather 😁 Meanwhile, in April many of the leaves on our trees are only just starting to think about coming out!
In the mid south we see lots of fire flies in spring when it is not freezing and is moist. If it dries out in late June through September they go away. They need rain And dew to mature.
That's so neat to hear how different the ones in our Canadian climate need the weather. Ours only begin to come out in June!
We have a tiny yard, but we normally get about 1 trillion times more fireflies than any neighbors , we leave a lot of wild growth and generally rip up grass when ever possible
that's amazing! If only more lawns could be like yours the world would be filled with more magic 💖🥰
@@BerriesandBushcraft We will keep trying , what we need are more animal crossing bridges for busy streets!!! These guys need a place 2 move !!
100%! So many plants, mammals and insects would benefit
This is the way
Comment for actually going into the water.
hahaha it's your fault 😜
Thanks for the push😄
What a fun and valuable lesson. Great video!!!
Thank you so much! Very glad you enjoyed it ❤️
Yûki thanks you!
I love this so much!!! Super fun and educational. I want to rewatch it with the kids I know. :)
So glad you enjoyed it! I hope the kids enjoy it too
Oggi, you deserve a prize for jumping in the creek in February!!!! 😰❄️
It was my first cold dip in February, so thanks! Felt pretty bad for losing Britt's glasses, I went in again the next day with a scuba mask - no luck, will have to check again...🥴
Hope that this time around you went in with your hipwaders 😆!
This is one of my all-time favourite Berries and Bushcraft videos
So glad you enjoy it! As our first "cinematic" vid, it'll always have a special place in our hearts
it's so awesome to see Yuki get better and better at mushing! Go Yuki!!!
He's such a good boy!
